Either way I don't like letterboxing either. I want my screen to be filled. IF that makes me a hedonist , then call me one. The only time I let my picture stay with black bars is if it improves my picture quality on older sd shows.

Speaking of KAOB , I am watching RETRO channel 27-6 . The picture is having digital blurring in certain scenes and it is random. I am also getting signal drop outs on the channel too. I get about 62 strength on my receiver. Might be related , but I wish that they would increase the strength on the signal and correct the blurring of the scenes.

Hope to increase power soon....As to the blurring, I am working on the ATSC encoder to try to fix that....hope to have it corrected it in the near future....

A poll for all, which channel is your favorite on KAOB?

Good news. So far RETRO is my favorite. I love all the old tv shows and classics like Mystery Science Theater.

While I am asking for more power and better picture quality for the KAOB channels , how come we can't get PSIP data so we can at least know what we are watching? What's more , where can we get guide data for the schedule of shows online. IS there a website with that information ? Metv has guide information online for all it's channels if you plug in the zipcode. Would really like to know what is coming on and when.

EPG (not PSIP) or Electronic Program Guide, is an independently provided system for LPs...they usually get it from a third party over the internet..and that cost $$...to see what is on the different channels, you can go to the providers web sites..

Hearthland 27.1
FamilyTV 27.3
Revn 27.5
Retro 27.6

I wouldn't look for it on any LP in the area soon..

So I know the difference between Electronic Guide and PSIP. Almost all ota channels give you PSIP data so you know what program you are watching when you tune to it. As for the guide data , I mean is there a website for KOAB that provides you the extended guide for the week you are on like Metv does , for each of the sub channels ? Otherwise I have no way of knowing what is on unless I sit there at the beginning of the show like the old days. So is there a website for KOAB or do you have to look at the website for each channel itself?

I like Heartland and Retro. I noticed KAOB has been in and out lately at least in Groves. Also KEBQ is steaming again on livestream. It is usually Soul Of The South Network but right now it's Tuff TV

I use Titantv.com as my "TV Guide" for all Houston and Beaumont stations (including all sub channels). I would think that TitanTV covers your area.

When I was at KFDM, TitanTV was our source of EPG; but of course, we only used the KFDM information (all sub channels included). I don't know which provider Sinclair uses.

I see that Titan tv is a free app you can download as well. I have suggested to DISH that they allow us to have that app on our Hopper 3s so we can use it for our ota and sub channels for complete guide information. We already have internet hooked up to the hopper so it wouldn't be hard to use it for complete guide information for up to 2 weeks for ota channels and sub channels. They haven't responded back to my suggestion ,but I won't be surprised if they allow us to add the app someday.

I failed to mention tvguide.com. But there is a reason: it's slow to load.

I don't have a smart phone. I use my desktop computer, or laptop.

Did you know that there are hundreds of fart simulation apps at the Apple app store? Did you care? Why would you?

I read about them in a book.

Looking for recommendations. I have DirecTV HR-44 genie. Main box in the living room and one genie in the bedroom. I'm thinking about hooking my outside antenna to my box but I don't think it can work. I'm looking for a separate dvr for my antenna. Is there one out there that is good? Or is there a way I could get my OTA's on my DirecTV guide?

I have that same setup and have the AM21 tuner attached to the HR44 and antenna; with it I can record all off-air programs just like they are DTV channels. They show on the Guide with a dash and subchannel #, right after the DTV local channel, with no dash. DTV does not advertise the AM21 tuner anymore and the installers don't know anything about it, but it still works with the HR44 like it did with the HR23 I had before thru the USB port. Only difference is the HR44 does not get its power from the AM21 like the HR23 did, so each has its own power and the AM21 stays on all the time.

Thank you! Looks like the AM21 is the way to go. I'm assuming amazon or eBay will be the only way to find it?

SolidSignal.com says it is discontinued, so I guess you are right. Other choice might be a Tivo box, but it costs $15/month and is not combined with the DTV guide and recorder.

Lake Charles gets a CBS

http://www.americanpress.com/20170215-New-CBS-Station

Starting today, viewers can tune their TVs to CBS Lake Charles, the new local CBS Network affiliate, on Channel 17.

KSWL-LD is the callsign

I tried about a week ago, and again yesterday, and still am not picking up Ch 17 CBS on my antenna. I live in SW corner of Allen parish, and get the LC and Lafayette channels, but still no 17. Where is the transmitter located, and are they low power? Is anyone else picking it up?

looking at rabbitears and the FCC site they are using the same tower as KFAM-LD (14) which is just west of I10/210
Rabbitears shows the coordinates at 30.221n 93.311w so if you put that into google maps it will show you
yes its low power (15kw max)

by the way I'm nowhere near there. I'm close to the same longitude but about 15 degrees further north

KSWL-LD did have a directional antenna WEST but a CP shows them now going east from the tower...Not sure if that has been done yet...station IS a Low Power (15KW ERP) since it has -LD on the callsign....

Here is a link to the coverage under the new antenna pattern..(use the + button to zoom in after the map loads)...
