Great news bearmur.

Looks like my deck and landscaping project will have to wait a little longer so I can use some time to get the second antenna setup.

Just flipped over and they are broadcasting!!!

You can probably get it without a VHF antenna. I have a channel master 4248 directional UHF only antenna pointed at red mountain. I am getting about 65% signal on ABC even though it is VHF in a totally opposite direction.

33-1 is 4:3 with grey letterbox
33-2 is stretched

BWCDawg,
Are you getting audio on 33-2. If so what is your receiver. I hope people find it tonight. Tomorrow it will go off until Monday. The hd PROGRAMS WILL NOT BE SWITCHED IN YET. Not set up yet. We did know about audio problem with 33-2 until I saw it on my Sony. I was trying to check it before you all saw it.

I'm getting the ABC digital signal as well with a solid 65 to 70% signal (just off exit 1 of I459). I haven't tweaked the antenna yet to optimize; so, I should be able to do better.

I don't have audio on 33.2 either (sony HD200)

BWCDawg, I could choose which stretch mode to use on 33.2 (normal with grey bars, wide, panoramic, etc). 33.1 had a fixed aspect ratio.

SD picture quality on 33.1 looks very good. Bearmur, I assume it's being upconverted to 720p.

Getting dolby prologic II on sound.

Any ideas why I'm picking up something on 45 and 50? No picture but the channel search adds it in the channels selection.

for those with charter hd service.......

charter called today and talked to my wife trying to promote their dvr's. my wife specifically asked if this was the hd version they were offering and they said yes. so, she ordered one to be delivered next week. given the frequent cluelessness of charter customer service I am a bit skeptical....I knew the sd dvr's were out now but I didn't think the hd version would be out for a while. does anyone have an hd dvr from charter or have you heard anything about release dates?

Thanks Tom. I just read back towards the beginning and saw it.

So has anyone found out what Fox has changed that would cause some to loose the picture? Did they reduce their signal?

45 is pax,50 is fox. We have no remote control of the xmitter yet is why we are cutting it off Friday. When the engineer leaves today he will cut it off. I think audio problem is a psip problem. We get audio on our receiver at the studio & xmitter.

Bearmur,

Will you continue testing today? Is the signal on now? I am home today and would like to see if I can pick it up with my 4228. I looked for it this morning, but I did not see it. I was thinking that maybe you had not "turned it on yet" as it was early.

Thanks in advance!

Tim

ABC 33-1 and 33-2 being received in Tuscaloosa with 90-95 signal strength! I have an older Radio Shack VHF/UHF combo antenna with a Channel Master preamp, pointed towards Red Mountain, and get great signals for CBS, NBC, PBS and UPN. WB comes and goes. Now if FOX 6 would just increase their power!

On my Hughes box, I have manually entered channel 5, and I'm not getting anything. I know that the channel maps to 33-1, but isn't 5 the actual channel that I should be searching for?

Is anyone else experiencing large signal level fluctuations? Or will adjustments be made still?

I must say that for a multi-casted channel - this is one of the clearest digital signals I have seen yet.

My signal was still a solid 65 or 70% this morning. Very little signal fluctuation.

Now the BIG question for NBA nuts like me:

* Will the NBA playoffs be broadcast in HD?
* Will 33/40 be broadcasting HD in time to get to us?

FWIW, I'm on the down side of the mountain on Meadowbrook and currently getting an eratic signal strength of about 40-49 (no lock) without touching my CM4228 in my attic. I had planned to add a pre-amp at the antenna for the Pax anf Fox HD signals and will try that later this afternoon to see if that gets me the "last mile" for ABC without having to add a VHF antenna. I'm a happy camper if that does the trick!

Well, I'm qetting zippo with my 4228 and preamp. I pull in all other stations with great signal strength. Of course my location sucks, I am at the bottom of a big hill with huge trees everywhere (Inverness Parkway area off of 280). The best place for me has been on the ground in a particular spot leaned up against a garbage can (attractive, huh)? I never had any luck pulling in the stations with the antenna on my roof or in my attic. Now, I'm not sure what to do (other than to buy a VHF only antenna and see if it can resolve the signal). I was hoping that because other users' UHF antennas were working that mine might to, but as with everything....location, location, location. If anyone wants to "volunteer" to help me out, I'll buy the pizza and beer...Dave Richardson, are you listening..smile?

Does anyone know if a UHF preamp connected to a CM 4228 might be blocking the passthrough of the VHF signal?

Just wanted to report that good, old fashioned rabbit ears work just fine for picking up ABC 33-1 in Tuscaloosa. For an experiment I disconnected my outdoor antenna, which is getting a 90-95% signal, and connected the rabbit ears to my Zenith 520. I'm still getting a good 50-60% signal with no dropouts.
