E-mail engineering@abc3340 about the audio level and 5.1 on 33-1. May-be you can get more done than I can.

Does anyone know if the ABC college football game (Florida State/Miami) tonight (Friday) will be in hi-def?

Thanks!

Well guys, it appears the Fox splicer is online. Tonight was the first time I noticed that we were getting DD 5.1 sound and the Fox logo in the bottom right corner. I emailed Fox today. Jerry Thorn said they were ready for HD football on Sunday afternoon. I did notice quite a bit of pixilation tonight one of the Fox shows, but I think this is the network's problem (not a local problem).

Now if we can only get ABC on the ball with the 5.1 sound, we'll be in business. I've sent several emails with no responce.

Tom...

The splicer has been online for several days now. Fox 6 bug looks pretty cool. The splicer thing may have some issues in the first several weeks but it should get ironed out.

It's all good! There is a great thread about it and there is a fox engineer that actually something to do with the splicer in LA. His name is FOXGUY.

i was trying to organize my HD football for the day and i couldn't find a really good listing site. what i want is a site that will show all the channels we get for both charter digital and OTA. titan tv comes close but it doesn't seem to inlude all the channels we get in this area. anyone have any better suggestions.

btw - it looks like espnhd will be showing both the afternoon and the evening game in HD.

I've been having problems with 33-1 for the last couple of days. There is a lot of pixelation and the picture will drop out completely on occasion. The other local channels seem to be fine... except for Fox. Could it just be that the antenna needs adjusting?

Also, is Fox planning on upping broadcast strength anytime soon for their digital channel? It sucks that 6 is the only digital channel I can't get.

Watching Fox pregame show right now. Does anyone know if this is actually 720p. It looks soft to me, 480p?

Pregame is 480p, actual game is 720p.

Pana had Voom for HD content the first day and looked OK. Pioneer showed a new Plasma which looked nice and Fujitsu has a new 2-version of it's processing chip.

LG had a 70" plasma with a nice HD picture. One of only 6 and the price tag of 100K. Look for 70" models next year. The plants are only made to handle up to 80" until new plants are built.

With 22,000 people attending and about 300 manufactures it's kind of difficult to demo side by side.

Talking with the same rep from Directv as last year they are not going to make any other DVR boxes in the next say 18 months.

Talked with Dish and all they we showing were boxes that are available now. nothing new planned.

Displays were the hot item this year, and Control 4.

larrimore,

From what I understand no progress has been made in obtaining the necessary carriage agreements with the local broadcaster who are not yet part of the Charter HD lineup in Birmingham.

With that being said, it should be noted that I am not directly or indirectly involved with the negotiations. I would describe the information I am privy to as second hand "water cooler talk" type info.

Tom

THancock,

The olny real requirment for HD service is that the subscribers home be fed from a Headend that is on our fiber optic backbone.

Some very small areas of Jefferson and Shelby counties are fed from stand alone Headends, which are not connected to our fiber optic network. Servcie such as High Speed Internet and HD service are not typically offered in the areas fed from stand alone Headends.

Thanks for the response, but it now seems Charter does expect us to endure another football season without CBS or ABC HD coverage (at least Fox finally went HD this year). What do you suggest we do about it? What method should we take that actually does any good?
I called Charter and got a CSR and then a supervisor, who at first gave me bad info (or lied, but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt) that the reason was that ABC and CBS are not broadcasting in HD in this market, then finally said they didn't know for sure why, then told me that they get very few requests one way or another about HD. She (the supervisor) told me that they, in her opinion get more requests for foreign language programming than HD. So, what do we do? Can we get some drive together that would have any effect? As my signature says, Charter is my only hope for local HD at least until the D* local into local pipedream becomes reality.

Living the HT Dream...now in 4D.

charter_hsd,
no problem. I did end up getting some programming on 772. no coverage on Tuesday, partial coverage on wednesday (it cut off for some reason partway into Chaney's speach just after 9 and never came back on), and got all of thursday's coverage.

charter_hsd, do you know when the guide will be updated for the NBC-HD feed? There has been no programming info in the guide since the Olympics.

I wanted to watch the yankee vs redsox game on Fox and the image is stretched instead of 4x3 with pillars. I have confirmed this is a local issue but after two call to the station - they haven't fixed it - hopefully they will fix it before football tomorrow.

I called two times on sat and once on sunday - they blew me off everytime so I am going to call Jerry Thorn and ask what the deal is. I can't wait for the national Fox feed on D*, had this been my browns game - i would have been forved to watch it in SD. The weekend engineers don't reaaly seem to have a grasp like the ones during the week.

I would give fox 6 a call to tell them there is a problem and if enough people call - they should finally look into it.
