There are no changes shown for KMTP on the FCC site.

I don't have cable, so I can't tell you what's going on there, but on Dish they have a notice up saying "There's no need to call us. We are aware that this station is not available." Unlike Comcast, Dish gets all of it's signals OTA, so if the OTA signal is missing there is nothing on Dish.

Stephen, how do you know that KCSM and KAXT have been sold? I see no changes in their FCC files either.

KCSM's status is on the CSM site and is well documented. The station engineer no longer posts. But their files have changed so it is hard for me to find what I did before. This Wikipedia entry is useful.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KCSM-TV#Sale

Quote:
On December 7, 2011, the San Mateo County Community College District announced plans to sell KCSM-TV, due to budgetary constraints as well as an operating deficit of $1 million. KCSM radio would continue operations as usual.[2] All bids in response to the initial request for proposals to purchase the television station were rejected on October 24, 2012[3][4][5] and the district subsequently issued a second request for proposals. On May 15, 2013, the district approved an agreement with LocusPoint Networks, who will provide a $900,000 annual subsidy for up to four years and then split the proceeds of an auction of its spectrum allocation sometime in the next few years.[6] The KCSM-TV spectrum is expected to be sold for upwards of $10 million to wireless communication companies.
Google "kcsm tv sale" for more

In KMTP's bid for KCSM they disclosed that all their revenue came from cable companies their carried their station.

KAXT was posted by Trip.

I have found the documents. I do not see the one where KMTP said that they get all their money from Cable companies.

That was in a KCSM bid document, I still am looking. Post soon.

I expect that it has been sold like KCSM and KAXT have been.

I think that a notice to the FCC must have been filed if they are packing up and leaving. They must remain on the air to be able to enter the reverse auction and all stations that want to collect the money must remain on the air AFAIK.

I will take a look at the FCC records but I am a poor searcher there and somebody else needs to check who knows how to search.

SHF

My guess is that if they're off the air because they've been sold in auction then we won't see any of the normal FCC filings. But we need Trip to verify this. There seems to be hidden places to look besides TV Query and a CDBS search. The auction has been in progress for 3 weeks now. It may be months before we hear the official outcome.

Point your antennas to Salinas to see if you can receive KDJT on 33.

Thanks, Stephen, for all the links and information regarding KCSM. I missed all that somewhere along the way.

No signs of KDJT on channel 33 here, Chuck.

By the way, I'm still looking for my first logging of KQRO 45 here. I'm still receiving fairly strong signals of 60 to 70% on channel 2, but the signal quality is very low. Some stations, like KEXT 27 and KDTS 52 come in with a weaker signal in the 50 to 55% range, but their signal quality is 60 or better and they show up frequently.

Perhaps the gold mine (Where KMTP says they get their money from cable systems) is in the zip file which for some reason I cannot download. That document is where the very interesting stuff is.

The huge list of equipment that KCSM has takes two or three pages in another document. The terms of the lease of space on Sutro is there also.

----------------------------------------------------

I think that a station must be on the air to be in the auction.

Trip may not reply because he is so very much in the middle of the auction. (Based on a study he did and then quickly he joined the FCC.)

-----------------------------------------------------

I just realized why so many streams are being added. The stations want to get a good comparison between what they can get from the auction and what they can take in if they stay on the air.

My ears are ringing!

The auction has "started" in the sense that stations participating have committed to an opening bid, but the actual auction rounds have yet to begin, so no station has been "bought" at this time. Given the overall flakiness of KMTP in general, I wouldn't be surprised if this is nothing more than equipment failure, and stations have 30 days to notify the FCC of that sort of thing.

In any event, nothing public has been filed yet that I can find.

I'll bet you have noise on low VHF so the signal is strong but you can't decode it.

Never really paid much attention to this. But I noticed a power strip surge surpressor that claims to lower EMI/RFI -40db in the 100 Khz to 100 Mhz range.
That falls in the range of RF channel 2.

Here the noise varies day to day. Night to day, etc. It never really wipes KTVJ out. with the exception of a quick "burp" in the audio / picture.

Have not really made any attempt ... since the initial day of higher power to catch KQRO 45.
One thing I do notice is lack of signal "surge" with the lower VHF band ... that I notice with the higher VHF band.
The high band can surge 10 to 30% stronger, usually at night on hot days with weather changes.

I've seen the same thing here. Low VHF signals don't vary as much as high VHF and much less than UHF. I think the higher the frequency the more temperature inversions affect it.

I've also noticed the low VHF steady signal received from KTVJ. It seldom changes from one day to the next. The station seems to have good coverage for just 3 Kw ERP, too.

I exchanged emails with Keith regarding K03HY, asking when he planned to put it on the air. He said they haven't completed the structural improvements on the tower at Clay-Jones on Nob Hill, so he's going to ask for an STA to go on with lower power with the antenna mounted lower. No date for doing this was indicated.

He says that K06QM, channel 6, Healdsburg will be on the air this weekend.

I don't understand the thought process in picking that location.
A community that is forced to use pay-tv ... for network television due to the distance to SF tv towers.
So probably zero OTA viewers.

You're probably right that nearly everyone is on cable or satellite but looking at the TV Fool report for the center of Healdsburg OTA should be possible. A good outdoor antenna will be necessary and it must avoid the usual pitfalls of pointing into trees or buildings.

Some areas are worse than this and some are better. South and west is worst, north and east is better. The report is not as bad as mine.

GOD TV is special, the viewers are interested in that station only and will buy the equipment necessary to receive it. It's word of mouth when it comes on air.

The chair has been empty (Dr. Scott) for a very long time, it's another "Get on the telephones" channel(s).

Quote:
1: 45.1 KQRO-LD
2: 45.2 BHTV
3: 45.3 DCTV
4: 45.4 VMTV

6: 45.6 Daystar
7: 45.7 AUN
8: 45.8 NBTV
9: 45.9 TheWalk
10: 45.10 AlmaVis
Repeating again, they want that station only!

It's the same for the low power analog stations to the South, those viewers want those stations and will buy the equipment necessary, but they may need to save lunch money for years to get it.

There is feedback from the viewers to the stations, that's what keeps them on the air.

----------------------------------

All the rest of us want more mainstream programming and are proud of our 132 streams, most of which are never watched.

I am about to spend ~ $400 for Cable Internet that perhaps I cannot use, plan "A" is failing and I have no plan "B". The powerline modems may not work. Living in a 45+ year house is difficult. DSL gives 1.6 mbps max.

Getting the Cable Internet from the lower frount of my slice of the building to the upper rear where my router must be is difficult. 40 Years ago when I did my attic work it was possible, the cables now are used for stereo.

On "Johnnie Carson" tonight appeared "carnac the magnificent" and an "aardvark taking a dump with the best (worst) camera angle. One animal punched Johnnie in the jaw.

I do not know why but "Johnnie Carson" seems to be 1000% better than shows that have followed, I have not missed one so far.

I've been enjoying the old Johnny Carson Tonight Shows too. He was the king of late night and always will be the best.

I have been watching for the PSIP for 36, 44 or 48 to change, none have.

They are turning themselves into a 24 hour news station (Sorry KRON again, they are going further into the dumper.)

Is it in HD on 8.3 like on KTNC 42.1? If so, I think this is the first station with three HD sub-channels.

KRON 4-3 has switched programming from Antenna TV to GetTV, the same as KDTV 14-3.

Holly Crud, send up the bat signal!!!!

KRON's PSIP has changed to:

  • Sky Link

  • KRON-HD

  • GetTV
I accept that they may be losing money, perhaps more on Antenna TV.

KTVU is stepping up it's News department to become a 24/7/365 with the renaming of KOFY for a second channel.

I don't see any thing strange, all the news departments are increasing in size and additional programs added wherever they can.

KRON just does not have anything unique that brings in the viewers.

They may have been sold to the wireless people already, several stations here have.

But did we need to lose Johnny Carson, I have missed NONE of his shows so far.

GetTV was one of the better ones, but it's shows have gone around so many times there is nothing to watch.

Antenna TV is actively seeking a new affiliate partner in SF. Get TV ushers in a new program schedule tomorrow with a number of series not seen in a long time.

Will the last subscriber leaving Dish Network please turn off the satellite.
