With KBCW and potentially KBSV moving to 28, this will provide relief to KKPM to be able to cover Sacramento better.

I'll be surprised if KBSV moves off 15. They have a special situation, very low power and a location blocked to the Bay Area so that there's no chance of land mobile interference. I'm expecting KMMW to go off or move. My real curiosity lies with the fate of KUVS. Them going off would result in a big improvement here.

Movies! on KTVU incorrect aspect ratio

I captured "Laura" from 2.3 today and saw that the aspect ratio was incorrect, 4:3 instead of 16:9.

I thought about sending another message to KTVU but then got a better idea.

Tell "Movies!" instead which I did.

We will see if that gets the aspect ratio set correctly.

Thank you for contacting Movies!

We truly appreciate your feedback, and value you as a viewer of our programming. Because we receive so many emails every day, we are unable to answer them all personally. However, we do read them all, and direct them to the appropriate personnel at the Network for review and consideration.

Many of the emails we receive concern programming changes to our schedule. Many times these changes make viewers happy because one of their favorite shows has been added to the Movies! schedule. In other instances, a favorite is removed, which is disappointing. Hopefully as we rotate through our program library, your favorite Movies! program will be on the air.

If you are contacting us regarding technical issues, we will forward your email to our affiliate relations and engineering teams. Many times the technical issues are based in your local market with either the local affiliate, cable system or satellite provider. We suggest that you contact your affiliate about the issue as well.

We truly appreciate the time you spend watching our Network as well as the time you’ve taken to write us.

Thank you!

I've given up on trying to get stations to send the proper aspect ratio. They should be able to see that it's wrong, but they don't seem to care if it's right or not. It's getting more and more frequent that I have to use the "WIDE" button to resize a picture to the right size. Sometimes the picture is too wide, sometimes it's too skinny.

Here's an interesting sight that I noticed recently. KEXT channel 27 (RF 20) had a slide up IDing the station as KSCZ-LD Greenfield. They transmit on 20 just like KEXT. Hmmm... what's going on here? Chuck and I discussed it and he said that they're owned by the same company and he doesn't think KSCZ has ever been on the air. I'm going to keep an eye on it.

Send a message via AIM to Trip in VA
KSCZ-LD was spotted on the air in 2013 from an earlier-licensed transmitter site, as I have TSReader data for it.

https://www.rabbitears.info/screenca...167279-0_0.htm

At the time, it was airing nothing but black--with static in the picture. Go figure.

As I mentioned to Chuck in a PM, I'm guessing this is a very early channel share, implemented creatively by just licensing both to the same channel and accepting any "interference" between the two. How many subchannels is the RF20 transmitter running, and what's the channel numbers on them? Are any IDing as KEXT-CD?

I can't find a showing of Laura on 2.3 (Movies!) either yesterday or today, but, I'm assuming that they they were showing the 1944 film. That movie was filmed a 1.37 : 1 which makes it 4:3... Now if it was windowboxed I can see the issue.

The 4:3 aspect ratio makes the picture too narrow, as the stream is formatted for 16:9. The trailer for "True Grit" looked so good that I plan to capture it.

If like Larry and myself with many ways to correct the aspect ratio, it is not a problem. But some unknowing viewers will be watching the squished version.

Lara is not scheduled again soon and True Grit is only planned for 3/29/2017 at 07:00 AM currently.

Yes the B&W 1944 film was shown.

The FCC has extended Channel Sharing in a new rule-making allowing LPTV - Low Power TV - and translators to share channels with Class A and full power stations.
You can read all of the details in this article from today's "TV Technology":

The station I'm receiving is transmitting on channel 20 with just one sub-channel, virtual 27-1. Their PSIP ID shows as KEXT. Programming is Tokyo TV in Japanese, and when that service is off the air the station transmits San Francisco news, sports and traffic in English text form.

The station has the strongest signal here in San Francisco of all the low power stations transmitting from the hills above Fremont.

Can those of you who want the aspect ratio of Movies! corrected please take the pictures requested and attach them to a post so we can make certain what we are seeing is clearly shown.

My 20+ year old Kodak camera is hard to use.

I know that we have some members from other than the San Francisco, CA area.

Is "Movies!" OTA shown in 480i 16:9 correctly without you needing to change the aspect in your DTV?

If yes, please list the network (FOX, ABC, NBC, ... or none)

I an beginning to think about the switch to the incorrect 4:3 from the previous correct 16:9 might have occurred when FOX purchased KTVU. That might explain our requests to fix the aspect being ignored, O&O control may not be local.

Thank you, having a report of another FOX O&O station having it right rejects my idea of those stations having a common problem.

I have concluded that the best proof is a digital camera picture taken with my Sony on screen display showing the 4:3 aspect ratio and the squeezed humans. I cannot diddle that.

Hard to do as the TV remote button must be pressed, the camera pointed and picture taken with the on screen display still on and the desired video. I can only try.

Pictures to Movies!

Here are the two pictures I am planning to send to Movies!

My new Sony from last year has an on screen data display that can be relied on.

I am not quite happy with the pictures, well my Kodak DC260 digital camera was made in 1998.

Anyone have better pictures, one program and one commercial?

I think Tom Selleck's AAG's reverse mortgage commercial and True Grit are both shown on Movies! in 16:9.

I think that the B&W Movies! Noir Saturday night will show the skinny people clearly. Laura last Saturday night forced me to fix the aspect ratio quickly.

But then they should know by now that the 480i 16:9 stream is messed up by the station sending their stream with an aspect ratio 4:3.

It was encouraging that they requested pictures, ones from two people might help.
