Which TV package did you get?

Did it cost you anything to switch to Uverse and then switch back to Comcast video?

As I recall, we got U-v's next to the largest package (U-103?)

No cost to return on U-v's part; however, I think CC wanted to charge me for an install...but I got them to waive it.

BTW: Future hardware and software will support multi-room DVR control and viewing, but there's absolutely no roll out schedule for that feature. Also, as of now, the DVR's still have only 2 tuners.

Her replies are correct to my knowledge. Max 3 HD streams...you can access a total of 3 different HD programs, any combination of live viewing and/or DVR. I was not aware that it was still possible to get an SD channel at the same time...but then...who cares?

It would be a great value if the PQ was equal to Comcast.

One other thing you guys considering Uverse will want to ask them - what happens if I need replacement equipment?

The reason I suggest this? I'll relay what happened to my best friend a week ago Friday during a recent storm. Apparently lightning struck their Uverse router and fried it that Friday afternoon (9/30). He called Uverse (from his cell, since tv/internet/phone all went out with the router) and expected they would send a service person, if not that day, then soon. What they told him was they would have to ship him a new router and that it would arrive on Monday. He asked if he could go somewhere to pick up a new piece of equipment - nope! It had to be shipped. After getting the new router that Monday, internet and phone were immediately restored, but a service call/truck roll was required to get tv back on-line (a coax line splitter in the system was also struck by the storm).

I think the major point of contrast here is that I have the option of going to a Comcast center 5 1/2 days a week (they're only open half day Saturdays I think) to get replacement equipment if I need it - I don't have to have something shipped to me. I also have the option of owning all of my equipment so I don't need to rent anything. With Uverse, I understand you are locked into using Uverse routers and you can't just go to an AT&T store to pickup a replacement (according to my friend's recent experience).

Sadly, it sounds like the storm damaged much more than my friend's Uverse router and cable splitter - his Dune, 360, Windows Home Server and secondary PC still won't connect to his network - we think that the NICs in the devices may have gotten fried. I'll be playing Network Tech this weekend trying to troubleshoot everything.

It almost seems like Comcast is trying to catch up with all the bells and whistles that U-verse has; caller-id on the screen, remote dvr programming, extra HD channels, etc. But I priced a couple of packages that had the channels I am paying for now (not including the new HD channles Comcast is promising) and after the first year, the price was more than what I am paying Comcast now.

I am not going to sign up for anything that costs more than what I am paying Comcast now.

And I won't pay for less PQ either.

It also depends how far you are away from the VRAD (the box on the street). I was too far from it so was limited to ONE HD stream! Don't care about the # of SD streams because I have no SD TV's.

Right now with Comcast I have two HD boxes and can watch/record 4 HD programs at the same time.

This is a technical limitation AT&T needs to overcome in order to succeed. I wonder of fios has the same issue?

I doubt FiOS has the same limitations... it's fiber all the way into your home. I've got FiOS internet but for some stupid reason they don't offer their TV service in the Houston area.

edit: And that chat posting, the customer didn't have a clear understanding of how Uverse works, and the uverse employee did a horrible job of explaining it. You have to think of it as one pipeline with X amount of bandwidth, you can watch however you want within that amount of bandwidth.

Hey guys...

Longtime lurker...first time poster...
I still get random Subscription Required messages that last a couple of minutes at a time. I called Ceton Customer Service support and they said they were working on it with a Comcast engineer but no word on when it will be fixed. Anyone else hear anything different?

The software patch that Comcast is working on "may" fix this, but there is no mention of Ceton. Comcast is scheduled to deploy it this year. Click the following link for more information on the patch and schedule.

Has anyone received any suspicious letters claiming they were being billed incorrectly and their rate was about to go up?

I received a similar letter yesterday with a strange 1-877 number on it. I called the regular Houston Comcast number and confirmed that I was not being billed incorrectly.

This looks like a very polished phishing attempt. It's on xfinity letterhead. The number is 1-877-395-5391.

The Software Patch for the new Guide S25 is starting to be delivered in the Houston/Galveston area based on set-top box type.

We are starting to deliver this software patch to our Houston and Galveston area customers in Texas starting overnight tonight and through next week.

Customers in this area of TX with the Cisco RNG 150 and 150N cable boxes are expected to have these fixes in place on Thursday, October 20. The remaining cable boxes in this area of TX are scheduled for next week with all boxes in this area receiving the patch update by the end of the month.

We should have a deployment schedule for CT and MS soon and will add that information here as soon as it is confirmed.

Some of the significant customer-impacting items addressed in this software patch include:

1. Truncated DVR Recordings - Some customers are experiencing DVR recordings that end early or are being significantly cut off

2. Not Authorized message on a HD Channel - Some customers may have seen a Not Authorized overlay occasionally on authorized HD channels that they are in fact authorized to watch. These Not Authorized incidences have been dramatically reduced.

3. Pass Through available as a HD resolution option via the HD Wizard screen.

To activate Pass Through after the software patch, please follow the steps below:

If you have a HD box and an HDTV set you can now set your HD box to pass through channels in the HD format that they are being delivered..

First, go through the HD Wizard to select all settings:

1. Make sure that the set-top box is powered OFF, but is still plugged into an active power outlet and connected to the HDTV using the proper connectors (HDMI or Component for an HDTV; Composite, RF, or S-Video for an SDTV).

2. Turn the TV on.

3. With the set-top box powered OFF, use your Comcast remote control and simply press HD ZOOM. Or, you may have to press the (Menu or Guide) + Info buttons on the front of the set-top box at the same time. The HDTV Setup Wizard screen appears.

4. The HDTV Setup Wizard will prompt you to select Standard Definition (SDTV) Mode or High Definition (HDTV) Mode. Select the High Definition mode, then follow the instructions on the screen by selecting 'A' to start.

5. Choose 'B' for the Advanced Setup Mode. Choosing the Advanced Setup mode allows you to save all the HDTV picture formats so that you can easily toggle between the different formats while watching TV.)

Press A or B to select the type of TV screen you have - either a standard-screen TV (4:3) or a wide-screen TV (16:9).

Follow the on-screen instructions to select your picture formats. If you see a black screen, do not press SELECT. Press again to view the next screen format.

3. Press SELECT to toggle between the Save and Remove options, or press 'B' to see how the next format looks on your TV screen.

4. After saving the picture formats, press EXIT. The setup is complete.

5. Press POWER to begin watching TV.

The User Settings on your cable box also need to be adjusted in addition to the HD Wizard settings that were just completed. This allows you to adjust your video settings to pass-thru.

1. To access user settings, turn OFF your set-top box; it will remain in standby mode.

2. Press GUIDE on your remote while the set-top box is in standby mode. OR press Channel Up + Channel Down simultaneously on the front panel of the set-top box.

3. From here you can set up your video settings and resolution output.
Video Settings - Configure the settings to your TV type. 4:3 Letterbox, 4:3 PAN/SCAN or 16:9 wide-screen.
Resolution Output - Configure the HDMI/YPbPr output to Pass Thru.

4. Use the arrow button on your remote to select the Pass Thru option.

Press POWER to begin watching TV. One way to be sure that these steps were completed correctly is to tune to HBO HD or CNN HD and the resolution display should be in 1080i. Tune to ESPN HD and the resolution display should be in 720p. Turn to CNN?s standard definition channel and the resolution display should be in 480i.

On some cable boxes, the resolution display will appear on the front panel LED.

New software patch? That explains why my "jump back" button hasn't been working, they "fixed" it. Guess a reboot is in order. Been meaning to but I'm always watching something when I realize it's no longer working.

On the bright side, I just got another notice that I need to get digital equipment or my basic channels will disappear... by 11/23. The last notice said the end of August so they're right on target for pushing it back to the middle of next year.

Lying, greedy, incompetent... It's Comcastic... It's fun to do xfinity.
