I also didn't know that WGPB will broadcast from Stone Mountain. I see that tower on the way to work and always wondered whose that was up there. Do you know the reason for them not broadcasting from it until 2007?

I think we are very fortunate to live in one of the top markets for DTV & HDTV in the US.

Well, we are not in such a great market for digital PBS IMO. While channel 30 broadcasts digital, I can get not a peep of a signal from them in Lawrenceville, while I get the major broadcast stations with little problem. The story I hear is that the holdup on the main PBS station (WGTV) is that the State of Georgia is holding the PBS Atlanta area digital signal hostage to wait for the rest of the state's PBS stations to be equipped.

As a follow up to this, I finally got WSB-DT to come in. It just required adjusting my antenna a bit to the west. It's a bit of a tradeoff, as CBS's signal starts to fall a little as WSB's comes in. Fox's signal actually drops much more sharply. I finally reached a compromise which allows all the channels to come in with a pretty stable signal... that is until a plane flies overhead. I've noticed that for some reason air traffic really disrupts my signal from Fox. None of the other stations seem affected, but perhaps that's just because Fox's signal is the weakest. I would pick up a rotor so I could fine tune, but as others have stated, I plan on getting a PVR sometime in the future and if the rotor can't be controlled automatically by the PVR then it wouldn't be of much use. What other solutions do people have for this? All I can think of is getting a 2nd antenna which would not go over well AT ALL with the wife.

As a side note, I picked up an in-line signal amplifier from Radio Shack and it did seem to help boost and stablize my signals but didn't solve all my problems.

I have a rotor and I can fine tune the channels. Yes you might not be able to do that when you are away but when you are home or if you know what you will be recording you can set it in advance so that the recording will come out okay. CBS is different than all of my other channels, so I set it for the other channels when I am going to be recording from any one of them but if while I am going to be gone and I want to record CBS I set the rotor to that location so it will be able to pick it up. Also, you can fine tune it with weather conditions or growing trees etc. I think it is worth it's weight in gold.

Being closer to the towers usually makes it harder to pick up reception. The farther away you are the easier it is to get all of your OTA channels on one antenna. Most of the installations i've seen inside the perimeter required a rotor or a couple of hours of fine tuning.

Another newbie here- my HD set arrived this morning. I've read through a lot of posts but I wanted to present my specific situation for advice anyway. I am a DirecTV subscriber, so I think I'm going to wait for their changeover in the fall. I just need to decide whether to fool around with an antenna in the meantime.

I am ITP, about two miles east of where the connector crosses 20. There are plenty of tall trees in my backyard in the direction of the antennas (from NW to NE) according to AntennaWeb. Am I likely to be able to get away with a settop like the Silver Sensor? AntennaWeb and posts in here seem to indicate I might need a rooftop to deal with ghosting issues. If that's the consensus, I'm not sure its worth the effort for me so I'd probably just go without until DirecTV gets things going on their end. Any advice would be much appreciated!

Don't bother with a Silver Sensor. I have one and my RS double bow tie works better.

Hi guys,

I'm new to the OTA HD world and need some help from you gurus here. Here is my current state below.......

2 - ABC, can get about 79-82%.

5 - Fox, can get about 79-82%.

11 - NBC. can't get it.

12 - CBS, can't get it.

14 - Pax. deleted.

17 - TBS. can get about 79-82%.

43 - UPN. Comes in alright. Occasional drop outs.

46 - WB. can't get it.

I'm using this (upstairs) indoors, but i think i might have go outside or in the attic. Also with a radio shack 10db amplifier.

DB2 HDTV Antenna from antennasdirect.com

As you can see below from antenna web i do not live to far from the towers.

* yellow - uhf / WATL-DT / 36.1 / WB / ATLANTA GA / 294° / 16.8 25
* yellow - uhf / WAGA-DT / 5.1 / FOX / ATLANTA GA / 292° / 16.3 27
* green - uhf / WGCL-DT / 46.1 / CBS / ATLANTA GA / 294° / 16.9 19
* red - uhf / WSB-DT / 2.1 / ABC / ATLANTA GA / 283° / 17.3 39
* red - uhf / WUPA-DT / 43.1 / UPN / ATLANTA GA / 279° / 17.1 43
* red - vhf / WXIA-DT / 11.1 / NBC / ATLANTA GA / 282° / 15.5 10
* red - uhf / WTBS-DT / 17.1 / TBS / ATLANTA GA / 294° / 16.8 20
* blue - uhf / WPBA-DT / 21.1 / PBS / ATLANTA GA / 283° / 15.8 21

So any suggestions would be great!

Your problem is probably multipath and not signal strength. Sometimes if you are too close to the towers, you can get multipath problems. Also, sometimes the strength can be too great and therefore you may have to get a variable strength attenuator from Radio Shack.
I would move the antenna outside on the roof temporarily to see if that improves your reception. Outside is always better than inside, higher is better normally than lower. There is no such thing as an HDTV antenna. They just say that as a promotional device to help sell that antenna and then charge you more.
Also, move the antenna directionally to see what that will do. I have an amp and a rotor and I can fine tune my channels anytime I want.

Yes, I wanted one of those and lost your response. Do you still have one? My fault. I have been busier than a one arm paper hanger in a wind storm, or a long tail cat in a room full of rocking chairs.

I bought the PB12 Ultra-2 and it really rocks my world. I mean it literally blows my Klipsch RSW-15 away and I thought that it was awesome but this things rattles my windows, moves paintings around, etc. I watched Elektra the other night and I couldn't believe it. Absolutely worth the money.

****UPDATE****

Well i did and experiment, I put the antenna in the attic and p/u 4 extra channels 30, 36, 46, & 69 no 11. I brought it back down into the HT and could only keep 46 and lost the other 3. My HT attic (bonus room over the garage) is sealed off from the main attic, so I have to figure out how to run the cable from the main attic to the HT. I'm thinking I might have run the cable from the outside to the HT. I rather leave it indoors but if i might be forced to go outside. American Idol was awesome last night, and CSI Miami looked & sounded great too! CSI-M had some subsonic bass in it that was shaking my seat really good. I never knew they mixed the 5.1 tracks that well for TV shows.

I notice minor audio drop outs, but i'm then only getting 67% max right now.

I'm watching Alias on ABC DT and the sound seems fine, 5.1 Dolby.

The commercials (in SD) have two little flickering pixel areas near the top, just left of center and on the top right. They disappear as soon as the HD kicks in. I've seen these before.

The sound may be an issue with your setup... that's just a guess though.

Kevinw,

I see your location is not too far from me (Flowery Branch) and roughly in the same general direction from the towers. I have been wondering if I have a decent chance of getting good OTA HD reception. If so, what equipment (antennae, tuner, etc.) might work best. I have been having allot of problems with the HD channels from Charter. I just want to know what your experience has been and what seems to work for you, etc. Also, any information from others in this area. Thank you.

Wasn't that a drag? Seemed like they were trying to get it to fire-up. Kept switching audio formats for th first half.

Just not my week for TV I guess.
I'm bummed nobody else had problems with reception on ABC yesterday.

Analog reception problems were more livable.

No reason you can't get good reception. For our area I recomend Channel Master 4228 or Antennasdirect's DB8. Most likely you will need a amp also. On the roof placemant is a must.

In my neighborhood there are 4-5 of us with antennas. All different.
2 of us have Dish and 2 have Direct. If you need an expert contact :
