I know this is OTA, but I've had the same problems with Comcast (using a 3412 HD DVR) and Digital 46. Last night Two and a Half Men was a slide show and the sound was also dropping out for 5-10 seconds, at a time

Same problem here with Comcast HD DVR (maybe 6412?). Taped several shows last night and had to delete them due to audio drops primarily. This seems likely related to the issue reported earlier with WGCL making changes to support the NCAA multicast. The point here is that it does not seem to be just OTA that is affected but I hope it gets fixed soon. Multicast rears its ugly head in so many ways it seems. I can understand the appeal that some have for multiple simultaneous game coverage, but I don't like the impact on HD quality.

After becoming annoyed
at the repeated drop outs, stutters and outright signal loss "The NEW Adventures of Old Christine" has been permanently relegated to the three thumbs down pergatory without even 30 full minutes of viewing.

Way to launch a series WGCL. My wonderful bride really likes Julia Louise-Dryfus but will not watch a terrible signal EVER.

If someone was really thinking they would bite the bullet and re-air the HDTV content from the last few days in late night hours instead of paid programming and ho-hum overnight news...

Anyone check out the additional channels for Channel 46 for the NCAA tourney yesterday? I think they were on 46-1, 46-2, 46-3.

While the PQ on the -2 and -3 channels was marginal at best, it was cool to have three games going on at the same time. GOOD JOB!

I would assume they would have the same thing going tonight and over the weekend, while there are multiple games going on at one time.

There must be another subchannel because on Comcast they showed 4 different games at times. Interestingly, Adelphia, Comcast and Charter have all added extra channels for these games, pretty good local response.

I did notice some audio problems early in the day but they seemed to settle down later.

Looks like the subchannels work
but the normal lip-sync and colour palette problems remained during Letterman last night...

Link to the CBS46 listings for game telecasts
http://cbs46.com/Global/story.asp?S=3063998
Apparently the NTSC/ATSC1/ATSC2/ATSC3 channels can be carrying the same or different games to make four sometimes available at one time...

Watching the HD broadcast of the Duke/GW game this afternoon, I noticed that the image frequently became more "digitized" (for lack of knowledge of the correct terminology). Sometimes this effect appeared to be related to what appeared to be a flash on the screen (LG 30FS4D CRT).

Anyone else noticing this loss of sharpness?

Noticed it in Atlanta. Must be splitting bandwidth among the several subs. Not so hot.

So how long has TBS been using the TNT-HD stretch?

If WGCL had four different games going at once on Thursday is it possible that they added the sd channel 46 broadcast as another subchannel?

looks great on VOOM
but DirecTiVo looks strangely zoomed and Media Centers are rather choppy. Another software change being tested in the field no doubt...

I just purchased the whole HT system an am intereste in getting HYV OTA. I live in Alpharetta (approx 28 Miles N of city) rifgt off Windward Parkway. I live in a second story apartment and currently have a D* for normal cable. I believe I have a decent path south. I hear people in this area have had success with some of the larger antennas, but I do not have the room or permission. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Enjoy the HD!!

I am in Alpharetta, too, off of Deerfield Parkway. I have had a great success (getting all channels all the time) with a Terk TV55 antenna in my attic. The antenna is small and can be hidden in all kinds of places.

Has anyone had problems with WTBS 17.1 dropping out? I usually have a 100% signal but it seems to drop out randomly.

Does anyone know if the Masters will be shown in HD on Thursday ? Last year (and the year before) they showed the HD version on 46-1 and the standard version on USA.

Also, if they are going to show HD version, what time ?

CBS will broadcast it in HD. I don't know for sure that 46 will, but it's very likely.

Thursday, April 6 and Friday, April 7 (4:00-7:00 PM, ET, each day)
Saturday, April 8 (3:30-7:00 PM, ET)
Sunday, April 9 (2:30-7:00 PM, ET)

Full story on cbs.sportsline.com

(Googled "masters golf tournament broadcast high definition" and it was the first hit)

Hey alphadude and mattman0217,
Quick question for you or anyone else in the Windward Parkway area. I am buying a town home off of Windward Parkway this week. For the life of me I can not remeber the name of the road off Windward but it is the light before Costco you turn left and the town home if behind Costco.
Anyway, I can not seem to find a cable provider. Comcast says it is Adelphi and Adelphi says it is Charter and I looked on Charters website and they say no service in that area.
I looked at Direct TV but for a HD-DVR receiver they want $399 and I am not even buying it, just leasing. Seems kind of high to me!
So just wondering what people in the Windward Parkway area do for cable. Or did I buy a town home in the cable black hole of Atlanta??
Thanks,
T

Thanks for the link. I must be remembering wrong, but I thought they broadcast almost all day on 46-1 last year on Thursday and Friday.

Anyone know for certain ?

It probably means that it will only be on WGCL-DT, while WGCL analog carries something else.

My cable provider is Netflix

Will they be using the subs to suck bandwidth from the HD channel like they did with the NCAA telecasts?? Hope not.

What is up with FOX? I no longer get a signal. I use a HTPC with MCE 2005 and it was always tuned on 5-1. On my computer it is now tuning in on 27-1. Anyone else having a problem?

27-1 here. I've seen them do that before. It will go back when they're done monkeying around with it.

Yup, just noticed the same thing and checked in here to see if others did as well. Guess I'll give it few days and re-scan later if it doesn't come back on 5-1.

For those that lost 5-1.

If y'all haven't seen it yet, the Fox VP of engineering said on the yahoo Atlanta DTV and HDTV Discussion Group, that the PSIP is back up and running.

Okay, here's what we have in a nutshell....a Sony HDTV (w/built-in tuner), a CM 4228, and a 7777 receiver.....

Husband just mounted antenna on chimney top.....

Switched TV to antenna mode.....

About 12 channels (locals)....TERRIBLE RECEPTION (much like old UHF)....

....reading through old posts on this thread, I see that several of you mention signal strengths and digital channel numbers....

(1) Do we need to stay on the digital tv side or flip the t.v. (as we're doing) to the antenna side?

(2) How do you know the signal strength?

(3) Do I need to manually enter the digital stations (i.e., 46.1, 46.2, etc.) or should they automatically come up when you flip channels?

(4) Are we missing something? Why aren't we getting anything? We are in Cumming, at the Dawsonville line.

Thank you. Debbie

Okay, first of all, let me say, "DUH!"

I went in and did a DIGITIAL CHANNEL SEARCH on my t.v. Amazing thing--16 channels appeared instantaneously! So.....I got the digital stations.....

Next question.....why do some channels/shows take up the whole screen and some have those pesky black bars on the sides? At first, I thought this problem came from the "format" (i.e., 1080i, etc.), but I see that some 1080 shows have the black bars too.

Are these black bars the same as on regular HDTV channels (that I get through my CATV co.)? When a show is broadcast in HDTV it takes up the whole screen, but when it's not broadcast in HDTV, you get the pesky bars?

I guess it was just throwing me off since some channels have two "versions," a DT version and a regular analog version, and the black bars are showing up on the DT version of the station.

Thanks guys! Deb

glad you found your reception problem. I believe the bars will be around for another two to three years. Hopefully when standard tv goes away, so will the bars. Of course all the old shows have been recorded in the 4:3 format, so who knows. Welcome to HD. The money is still in standard tv, so as hd viewers increase, hd 16:9 formats will also increase.(I think)

Okay, thanks! I appreciate your timely reply!

At least, I know now that there's nothing I can do to get rid of the black bars! I'll just have to wait for the rest of the world to catch up! Glad to know I'm where the rest of you guys are!

I think I've finally joined the 21st century! Thanks again for your help! Deb
