Ah hah.... that explains it.
Hey, I'm with you on that one (thread drift on.
Plasma has been, and always will be overpriced from a price performance issue as well. Not to say that you can't get a good picture from Plasma, but that you'll have to pay through the nose for it if you do.
On the "ED" issue it's always amazed me why in the world anyone ever thought that the low end Plasma's were HD. Much less pay $3000 for one. But that the retailers propagated such BS simply shows that if you want something, you're going to buy it no matter what.
What Plasma does do is offer the buyer a thin, sleek, highly flexible (when it comes to mounting/positioning in the room), display device. Albeit one pays dearly
for the pleasure. Personally, I'd spend for a nice LCD though before Plasma. But given the choice, and not absolutely HAVING to have the 4" thick TV option, I'd go with DLP for the thinnest, or CRT if 'thin'wasn't an issue. (LCOS of course would be added to the list when it comes of age.)
Always had the saying, "Nothing is expensive if you want it. You just have to quantify your
level of want." Over the last 6 months I've wanted
a new G-35 Coupe, but instead we bought a new house and rather than get the car afterwards, I'm spending a little less money and replacing a lot of my HT gear.
(Maybe after the first of the year I'll go back looking for that G-35!)
