Good to hear I wasn't the only one with JET reception problems Friday night.

Assuming the VS move to the Sports Package is a phased rollout (sounds plausible), I should only need one month of service at this point. I'm not sure how the billing works, exactly. If you call them to request an upgrade halfway thru a billing cycle, do they prorate it? In June, if you cancel the upgrade halfway thru the billing cycle, do they prorate a credit? I've never added/subtracted services before. I bet the administrative costs of doing an upgrade, then a downgrade a month later are probably higher than $5 -- a net loss for TWC? Nice timing guys.

FSN has us covered this week, regardless. The next round may not begin until the weekend at which point NBC coverage may come into play.

So I called TWC yesterday re: my issue with Versus. They essentially wouldn't confirm anything saying since they couldn't really know what my neighbors had or don't have they couldn't answer my inquiry. Somewhat understandable - but basically a cop-out if you ask me. They don't seem to know how these changes are or aren't implemented. No one I've talked to has had to add the "Sports Package" to their account to get VS. Was I the only one who noticed that VS was missing on Sat. morning (5/1) and called TWC?

I'm new to this forum, and want to say it's great to have this local input about our cable service. TWC certainly has it's issues, but overall I'm pretty happy with my HD quality and selections. As of this morning I'm still receiving Versus without a sports package. Also, thanks to those with the tip to rescan for WSEE and WICU for the DTV signal, as I have a set without the box in my kitchen and golf balls look square on it in SD!

Weird. I get MLB Extra Innings unlocked, too. As far as the HD's go, I get NBAHD and MLBHD, but not NHLHD...in addition to VSHD of course.

TWC not being able to give a straight answer on a rollout for blocking VS w/o the Sports upgrade sounds par for the course. Did you finally get VS back after paying?

Yes, after calling (on 5/1) to get the "Sports Package" VS was back that evening when I got back into town. That was not the case initially despite a few reboots. However my son "tweeted" about the issue and TWC picked up on it. Don't know if that helped remedy the situation - but was an interesting side note. I'm still getting responses (here and on Facebook) and have not heard of a single person that had to sign up for the package to retain VS! On a different subject I was glad that TWC was able to get us back online (cable & internet) late yesterday afternoon after the storm took something out in my neighborhood. I was worried that we would miss "Lost"! :->)

I'll second that. Compared to 3-4 months ago, I don't have this problem nearly as much now. I haven't changed any equipment or wiring during that time, so I dare say bandwidth problems on TWC's end must be getting addressed.

if that's the case, I might be calling direcTV and switching the day we lose DVR service.

wonder if that'd be enough reason to get out of my "contract" probably not, I'm sure they have that famous line in there that they have the right to change services with out warning... blah blah blah.

So I just got back from spending a week in L.A. while there I got to experience a lot of 3D content at a few different Sony Style stores. (wish the ones around here didn't close up) Sony had a 52 or 55" 3d TV on display running a loop of content being shown on a PS3. It showed some sports (soccer) and some cool video from a Japanese Zoo. And it also showed some PS3 games running in 3D.

After seeing the samsung 3d set up about a month ago in Sears I was convinced that 3D needed quite a bit more refinement and would be a few years away from being "good" After seeing the Sony set up I was blown away. It looked better than any 3d I'd ever seen. Usually any 3d I've seen I still usually end up seeing double images and things aren't super clear. Well on this Sony setup everything was crystal clear and looked incredible.

It was was just as dramatic as the first time i saw something in HD. Plus the racing games shown in 3d were to die for. I'm not sure how well other games will benefit from 3d but Racing games I think will benefit the most. The track just seems to really stretch off in to the distance.

Just thought that I'd share.

Just an update to say TWC Northeast Ohio updated both my SA 4250HDC and my SMT H3270 to ODN 3.2.0_15 last night. So far I can notice no differences on either box.

Could I get some opinions from those of you who have TW phone service? They are offering me a good deal, but I'm hesitant, considering the quality of their cable service.

I do not have it, but I know two people who do. One is a friend outside of Rochester NY and I'd say about 50% of the time I talk to him calls get dropped and it's on his end. You can tell when it's going to happen because it gets all staticky.

the other is a lady who works with me and they got it due to a good deal from TWC and then they promptly canceled it after just a month or two due to the same issues.

Not saying it's like that for everyone, but those are the only two people I know who have had it and both were not happy.

Nice oxymoron - using TW and latest/greatest together! None of their boxes are great - they are years behind technology, and the satellite and Tivo boxes.

Anyway, if you want to use an external hard drive, which I highly recommend for lots more storage space, you need an 8300HD box. Otherwise, the 8300HDC is the next version up, but TW in their infinite wisdom disabled support for the external drive??????????

So I saw a commercial last night stating that Dish is now going to offer HD channels for free. not really sure the deal, but it's a pretty funny commercial. I'm guessing it's only for new signups.

I agree as I found out the hard way when my original (which I got new in the box from Adelphia) 8300HD box died and they gave me the 8300HDC which did not support my external drive. So I took it back and they gave me a greatly abused 8300HD - but at least it worked with my 1 TB drive.

Yea, the 8300HD's are pretty beat up, but at least they work.

I just got another "offer" emailed to me via dish. "Free HD for Life"
Offer Requires "agreement" and autopay with paperless billing.

Not sure what the "agreement" is, but I'm guessing it's something like a 2 year contract or something like that.

Wondering if this is Dish's way of trying to lock people in to agreements before they lose DVR support or before they have to raise rates to keep the DVR. and if people get mad and try to leave, they'd have to pay to break their deal.

I'm not saying that's what the deal is, but after seeing how TV providers operate it would not surprise me.

Here is the ad they emailed me.

I called the CSR at DTV and they confirmed as listed on the website that all Erie locals will be launched in Sept, possibly earlier. The Nexstar owned stations, FOX and ABC, have granted a temporary waiver for the NY feeds until the stations come online. I asked about NBC, CW, and CBS and they said those were still in negiotiations for distant network feeds. We'll see if Lilly lets that happen. If so, I'll be dumping TWC right away. If you can live without those stations integrated into DTV, the specials that are going on right now are very good.

TW has a free preview of MLB Extra Innings for the next week. Channels are in the 740's. 2 games are in HD. Price for the rest of the season is $139. Might be a good deal for all of us disappointed Tribe fans....

That's why I have DirecTV. Just about every baseball game is provided in HD... not just 2 HD channels that cable offers.
