I've been considering an investment in an antenna, with Canada transitioning to digital at the end of August and also the possibility of picking up some Buffalo stations. Any antenna suggestions or personal experience in receiving any channels in these markets would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Ever since I got my cable box I never was able to receive channels 2-70. I'm going to blame signal drop, but TWC claims they have fixed it every time they come to the house.

I hope you guys in Erie are able to recieve some of our digital channels after August 31. I think you have a great chance at recieving CITY-DT on 31, CIII-DT on CH-6, and CHCH-DT on 11, CITS-DT on 36 and maybe CFPL-DT on 10. Another channel supposed to come online if they get approved is a repeater of CKVR-DT on CH42.

Per my previous post, I have been inquiring about antenna selection. What peaked my interest was the fact that with the "youtube" antenna I am able to receive cblt 5.1, chch 11.1, some of the Canadian analog and Buffalo digitals, depending on the weather. I hoping that the transition will make the stations more accessible.

CBLT-DT is going to a higher ERP of 100 KW, likely about 5db more than currently, so you might get better results

I received tvo, but it shows up at 19.1 on my tuner. I have only gotten this station twice and both times it was on for a very short time. I have totally lost chch 11.1 however.

19.1 is the Toronto transmitter that you are receiving. I'm surprised you're getting it at this distance. As far as 11.1 goes, everyone else has lost it too, even people close to the transmitter. Their VHF ERP is only 6KW.

Hi,
When I first set up my converter box [ it's a good one] got all the channels. The antenna is set up in the attic,[third floor] pointing south. All was well for awhile, then I started with pixelation, finally dropouts. tweaked the antenna, everything fine for several months, same thing happened again. This has been going on for almost two years now. QLN and fox66 never goes out. I am in the city. connections are fine, no one here touches the antenna. Why do I lose channels after a time? I see now canada will be broadcasting, and I remember watching city tv back in the day my father had a rooftop antenna/with rotor. Canadian channels always seemed ahead of the curve, if you get them, your in luck.

So, anyone have a idea why these local channels "disappear"/ degrade to unwatchable?

this is nuts.

I do have locals from dish now, but that's beside the point.

I have two converters that I wasted too much $ on.

Any input would be welcome
Thanks!

I'm hearing on September 11, when Pittsburgh Steelers play the Baltimore Ravens (at Baltimore), Erie will have to watch Buffalo Bills at the Kanas City Chiefs....
How can we get this changed... We live in PA and can't watch the PA team that is just a little bit further than Buffalo, NY????

It's a NFL rule. To change it the NFL and the Bill's ownership would both have to sign off, and that isn't going to happen. Maybe we'll get lucky and the Bills will move to Toronto in our lifetime. Probably Cleveland would then be the Erie market, but at least we'd always see the Pittsburgh vs. Cleveland games (providing it's not on the NFL Network). What team is shown in what market has nothing to do with the media providers or the fan's wishes. It's all up to the NFL and team owners. The fans and media are just revenue streams for the billionaires.

It sure would be nice if some unbiased person or team would look at the game and decide which team, that is close to the viewing area, is a better game to watch (and have probably the most signifigance to their season). Whether its Buffalo, Cleveland, or Pittsburgh in the Erie viewing area...

There have been polls in the Erie paper and on line that show Pittsburgh with the largest fan base in the Erie area, with Cleveland a close second. Buffalo gets only a sliver of fans. I remember one poll that showed Dallas ahead of Buffalo. It's all about NFL rules and Ralph Wilson's power with the owners.

If you're a DirecTV subscriber, DirecTV is doing a free preview of it'e NFL Sunday Ticket for week 1 of the NFL season. Therefore, for us Steeler fans that have DirecTV, you can see the Steelers/Ravens game this Sunday at 1 PM. You Browns fans that have DirecTV can also see your game this coming weekend.

The Steelers week 2 game vs. Seattle wll be carried on FOX at 1 PM. Week 3 vs. Indy will be a Sunday Night NBC game.

According to TV Guide, we have the following NFL games on Sunday, Sept. 18: Good news for Browns and Steelers fans.

1 PM: Cleveland @ Indianapolis WSEE 35
1 PM: Seattle @ Pittsburgh WFXP FOX 66

Apparently, no Bills home game being broadcast in Erie this upcoming weekend.

Looks like the Buffalo game may have sold out Sunday. In that case it will be broadcast in Erie instead of the Cleveland game.

(edit) I guess Buffalo didn't sell out.

Does anyone else hate the new TW Navigator update as much as I do? The screens look like they were designed by a 6 year old, you now need multiple clicks just to get out of the guide, and the worst is how they screwed up the Scheduled Recordings list. It seems that you can't just easily delete shows like you always could before. I've spent the last half hour trying to delete Terra Nova and Homeland (set up as Series), but Navigator keeps them in the list and changes the recording date instead of deleting them. It insists on recording Terra Nova tonite, when it is a rerun from earlier in the week. What a pain!

Anyone have any ideas on how to live with this mess?

Now I see I also have an issue with picture size on 2 of my my TVs. I always had the DVR in Stretch mode before, but now it is cutting off the scrolls on TBS for the playoff games. If I change it to normal, it looks OK. But then non-HD programs don't fill the screen. My 3rd TV is also on stretch, but it still looks OK. Can anyone suggest proper settings? Why would picture size change with a revised Navigator?

Now I'm also having issues with the DVR needing to be rebooted fairly often and the closed captioning hardly works at all. Is no one else having any issues since the Navigator latest release?

That's a pretty old box. I know it's tough to give up external drive support, but you may have to cross that bridge. My Sammy 3270 doesn't exhibit any of the functional problems you're having. You're 8300's drive might be getting near the end of it's useful life. Also, the more TWC updates it's software, the more processor power it eats. It's no substitute for external support of drives, but the 3270 I have has a 500 gig drive. You can swap out your box at the office by the mall. Good luck.

FXP/JET are going to broadcast the news in HD eventually, but the studio renovation costed a lot of money.

Been having a lot of trouble lately with TW with having to reboot my boxes. Most of the channels just disappear with blank screens all of a sudden. Once I reboot, things are OK for a couple days. It started after their last update about a month ago.

Anyone else going thru this?
