Can anyone take their AVR with HDMI and go into the options, setup, or menu and see what the bitrate is on like ESPN for example. (Directv or Dish) I get 448 on ESPN, the highest warner offers, (ESPN is 720p) even higher than 1080i or equal... , but the picture still seems washed out.

If your picture still looks washed-up I would say your AVR does a poor job with video processing because it does not have a good video processing chip.
What's your Yamaha AVR model number?

It's just the ESPNs. Other channels I regularly watch are good.

I have the RX V375BL

Folks assess the way these two local reporters perform. Mr. Josh Birch CH 9 WNCT reports in a very smooth way while keeping his voice gracefully controlled both from the studio and from the field.

Ch 7 WITN Mr. Dan Yesenoski's voice control is an awful mess both from the studio and worse from the field. I do NOT understand why he raises his voice pitch ungracefully. It's like a singer trying for a high note that is not able to reach.
It will be hopefully interesting to read your comments. Please be objective.
Thanks

I watch Big Band Theory every week night on WYDO, and I continue to have problems with white pixels and quick audio drops. I don't think it's my antenna. If I watch on cable with WFXI, I do not see the problem.

Have you also noticed that WYDO looks like crap during sports/action? It washes out really, really bad. I've watched all the races so far this year on WRAZ because of this... looks good on there.

Yes. I watch WFXI or WSFX. Big difference. I thought WYDO fixed their problems when they moved from Ayden, but it looks like the ghost followed them to Trenton at times!biggrin.gif

WILMINGTON, NC (NEWS RELEASE) -- Time Warner Cable today announced it has launched a new, theme-based digital channel lineup to customers in Wilmington. The new lineup groups channels together intuitively, making it simpler and easier for customers to find the programming they want to view — and to discover other content. Additionally, customers with an HD box will automatically receive the HD feed of the corresponding standard-definition channel, providing the best picture available.

WWAY NewsChannel 3 is now on channel 1200.

Channels will be grouped into themes like Entertainment, News & Info, Sports Music, Kids & Teens and Premiums. Likewise, On Demand content will be found on channels 1000 and above in categories like Primetime On Demand, Entertainment On Demand, Kids On Demand and Music On Demand.
Quote:
Time Warner Cable Digital TV customers in the Wilmington, Bladenboro, Brunswick County, Burgaw, Chadbourn, Elizabethtown, Lake Waccamaw, Pender County, Southport, Tabor City and Whiteville areas will receive the lineup March 25, with the new lineup taking effect in Jacksonville, Newport and Pink Hill on March 27.

Well, Warner has changed to their new line-up. I cannot access local network HD now on my digital adapters.... rolleyes.gif

On the upgraded HD box, I cannot get WCTI in HD on 12 or 1200 without pressing select and going HD. From what warner said, every channel is supposed to be in HD when tuned if they carry it in HD...

I do not like the changes so far.

Here is the product. All it does is tune encrypted cable programming that you cannot tune on QAM and analog tuners. It also allows you to view the most popular HD cable channels without a full HD cable box rental on each TV. Instead this box is used on secondary TV's. They are pretty much junk though. I have burned thru one already.

Time Warner now has everyone in HD on the proper channels but 12 on the digital adapters and full cable boxes... They do have ABC WCTI HD on the channel that is supposed to be MOVIES! though. So now, nobody can get movies! unless you have OTA. WECT and WWAY are still not in HD, but are located next to everyone else that is. Stupid.mad.gif

Might want to post this in HD radio forums instead of here.

Walking the fine line between jaw-dropping and a plain ol' yawn.

WITN CH 7 Dan Yesenoski should try to show some courtesy when pronouncing a Spanish name instead of the pure buffoonery he displayed. Mr. Yesenoski was reporting an incident in Jacksonville, Onslow county. A female Onslow county sheriff's deputy SEEMS to have problems dealing with Latinos. Based on the report it's the same old song where a badge represents the godlike syndrome that itches at least 95% of law enforcement officers. Mr. Yesenoski also stated that Onslow County Sheriff Ed Brown will address the public after having "a face to face" meeting with Mr. Jaramillo(ha-rah-mee-yo, correct pronunciation). I interpret that attitude by Ed Brown as an intimidation tactic. He was first arrested then released without being charged of any wrong doing. BTW most of the meeting was captured on Mr. Jaramillo's cell phone. Mr. Jaramillo's son was also recording the incident which found it's way to Utube according to Mr. Yesesnoski. The female deputy has a problem recognizing an Armed Forces ID card. The female deputy hurt the hand of Mr. Jaramillo's son when she snatched the phone. Obviously she did NOT like been recorded of her questionable public relations performance. I'll another cliché that's the way the cookie crumbles, YES SIR.

WNCT was the best today covering this from what I watched. WCTI caught the Tornado in Washington on a web cam. I don't think anyone expected this type of severe weather today. I heard we would have hail and high wind north of 70, but instead we got that and many long lived tornadoes!

I find Skip Waters/WCTI to be the best lately. Though I was surprised to see WITN stayed on as long as they did tonight, longer than the other two and well after the tornado warning expired.

WITN Brendan King hands down is a very good reporter compared to that average screaming performance you hear from Dan Yesenoski. If Yesenoski does NOT make any adjustments or change his style he will stay at WITN for the rest of his life.
