What is the official CBS affiliate for the Greenville and Kinston areas? Is there a Greenville station? I would guess WRAL has been granted carriage because of significantly viewed status. And that is a major heritage station. Is antenna reception an option if WRAL is dropped?

WNCT is the affiliate for the area. WRAL has a long standing heritage of viewership here though.

That's what I thought. But in many markets these days, the cable systems only carry only the official DMA station, and no duplicate affiliates from overlapping areas. WRAL has probably been carried due to significantly viewed status. And I would hate to lose it as a viewer. But can it be received with an antenna?

It can, the difficulty receiving it depends on where you are in the city. Central parts of Greenville have trouble picking up just about anything.

The "market boundary" is on the Wayne/Lenoir co. line which runs between Goldsboro and Kinston. Wayne co. is in the Raleigh/Durham/Fayetteville market, as is Rocky Mount, Tarboro, Wilson, Roanoke Rapids far north and Clinton to the extreme south. All these areas are able to receive BOTH markets.

Speaking of that - WNCT has been running a weather crawl all afternoon about flooding in Clayton, Selma, Smithfield (Johnston County), Wilson, Goldsboro (Wayne County), and Knightdale (Wake County). Do they usually do this?

Not sure what you mean? Why would they not do it if there is a danger? People come and go from this area to there, and vise verse, plus watch TV.

It's out of the market. I'm just not used to anyone activating EAS or running a crawl for out of market warnings.

I should clarify that I don't think it's a bad thing, it's just not something I'm used to seeing much anymore. They alert for Rocky Mount/Wilson but not much else.

As far as I know, they have always covered the majority of the viewing area, except for a few extreme fringe counties. I see the information right now going out on several channels about Flash Floods and Areal Floods. I don't understand why WCTI does Halifax county. I can't see many picking 12 up way up there. Maybe I'm wrong though.

We need to get rid of "market borders" IMO and let everyone view the channels in the broadcast radius as defined by the FCC. Better competition will result.

I really like Jerry Jackson on WNCT. He fits in well - it's nice to have someone else from the area.

Local people don't seem to like TV people who aren't originally from this area. Do they simply dislike outsiders or what?

It's essential that a meteorologist know the area like a local does. You don't have to be a walking encyclopedia like Skip Waters but you also should know what to do if your storm tracker comes up "No cities in the path." I saw one met (who shall remain nameless) get flustered yesterday when that happened and said "well if you know you are in this area you should stay alert." Really?

Your opinion is duly noted. By the same token you are NOT a qualified NOR a certified meteorologist. If we follow your theory then a physician from California would have a hard time treating patients from NC, really?
Rest my case.

Odd but apparently nobody in the market carries "The Doctors" anymore. I just always assumed it was a companion show to Dr. Phil and was negotiated together. Steve Harvey moved from WITN to WNCT and replaced the show last week.

WNCT seems to have the best line-up now don't they? I ask because I don't watch TV daytime. Dr. Oz gets good rankings too on 12 I bet.

I just wish they didn't carry the 700 Club which is essentially a paid advertisement. I'm sure they make money off it, but it should be relegated to the CW. Capitol runs it too but does so on Fox 50, not WRAL.

In other local news news - Ellen Bacca has left WCTI

Ms. Ellen Bacca went home to Grand Rapids, MI. WCTI CH 12 has lost a very likeable person/meteorologist IMHO.

The subject is SE NC weather forecast. Generally Mr. Skip Waters provides the best coastal weather forecast IMHO. WITN CH 7 Mr. Marvin Daugherty did pretty good until recently. I have NOT seen Mr. Daugherty in quite a while. CH 9 did NOT impress me until last night when chief meteorologist Mr. Jerry Jackson finally gave a detailed coastal forecast that he called "boating." It included ocean, sounds and lake and rivers.
Here are my reasons. It's 94.5 miles from my house to Bogue Inlet Pier, Emerald Isle. Gas is very expensive NOT to mention that I only fill my car with premium gas. It's 86 miles from my house to Jennette's Pier, Nags Head. My decision to go to either pier is based on the coastal wind direction and speed prediction. Other anglers from other parts of the state depend on the same information.
With ALL due respect local channels meteorologists is IT too much to ask?
Thanks

The stations here probably won't talk much about the Outer Banks tides. You may have to watch WAVY or WTKR out of Norfolk. OBX is Norfolk market.

Why these stations talk at all about the Outer Banks makes no sense. Nobodies signal comes close to there except WFXI.

WITN is actually carried on cable all the way up through Corolla, I believe. They used to be anyway.
