Wow, they are playing hardball. I bet WRAL has WNCT kicked off all cable systems they are on now up and down the I95 corridor and as far east as Edgecombe County if this goes through.

If WNCT wins this then I hope WRAL does do that. Wouldn't it be funny if WNCT ends up with a net loss of viewership when it's over.

On a totally unrelated topic, while surfing Google Earth, the latest picture, from February 2013, the overgrowth around the old WITN transmitter building was cleaned up. Not sure when the photograph before this current one was taken, but if you didn't know where to look on that one, you wouldn't see the building in all the trees.

From the current photograph, all you can see is the roof (no street level, too far off the road), looks to be in bad shape and may be open to the sky in a couple of places. The resolution close in isn't great, but at least some of the roof covering appears to be missing in places and maybe open all the way. I would also assume the land and building have not been owned by WITN in many years.

In the very early 70's when I was a pre-teen I took a tour of that building. It was the first transmitter building I had ever seen. I had already been at the studio in Chocowinity twice before as a child to appear on the Whitney Hobo Show. Sure does date me.

Across the road from where they are now, NC 118 east of Grifton about 3 or 4 miles. Lat/Long of the old building off of Google Earth. 35 22' 18"N / 77 24' 04" W

They moved in 1979. That is when WNCT moved. Before then, they had been on a tower behind the studios in Greenville.

Interesting!! I have noticed before that the stream/ditch there is called the "Channel 7 canal" and wondered why, since the tower was across the road.

edit: here's the property card

Legal description is still "TV Station"

It's obvious WNCT does NOT care about restoring the Dolby Digital 5.1 SS. It has been am almost two year joke/indifference regarding the issue. And so it goes

I can kind of understand this, since WNCT was taken down in Goldsboro, but as I have said in the past, I don't like authoritarians telling me what channels I have to watch. In the case of NCT, this is business, but in the case of the viewers, it's being controlled and told what to do. I would put up antennas and view what I wanted. I believe WNCT will win, WRAL will go, and then WNCT will also be gone from the border counties. Some people will strike back, but most are lazy and will just take it. The days of out of market locals on cable are running low.

Suddenlink dropped the Viacom channels today. They're in a price dispute.

The channels they picked to replace some of these make no sense at all. Spike replaced by The Blaze, and CMT replaced by WE.
I would have figured Spike's competitor to be AXSTV and CMT's competitor to be Great American Country.

WNCT and their DD 5.1 went to sleep. It shows how much they care about their viewing audience: ZERO, NADA.

BTSC broadcast stereo lasted from 1984 to the analog sunset in 2009 and WNCT never bothered to transmit in stereo. I see a pattern here. I will say that they had the sharpest picture in the analog days.

12 was not stereo either, it always annoyed me. WRAL was stereo so we had CBS but could not get ABC in stereo.

I always thought WITN had the cleanest analog signal.

WITN to me had the best analog signal, then WCTI, then WNCT. WNCT had noise bars in their directional antenna. WTVD had stereo surround, so you should have tried them. I used to watch WCTI but use WTVD's audio when I could get a clean enough signal.

You aren't the only one that would watch 12's video with 11's stereo sound! I recorded a Beatles documentary in the 90's that way too. I remember WNCT had a really good analog picture from about 1992, when they installed new equipment at the studio and donated the old studio cameras and master control to ECU. I don't think ECU used the equipment very long since it was already obsolete when they got it.

I know WITN had a good analog picture too, and according to some old RCA literature that I have seen, WITN ran at least a third more power than WNCT did, and you could really tell they had more power with just rabbit ears.

I wish we could get rid of the calming effect on the dolby digital. I used to get good RAW quality, now it sounds like monural at best. I also have to crank the volume. It seems there should be a better way to control commercial audio than to wreck everything.

CALM was a solution looking for a problem. TV audio really sucks now. We went from having the best audio in the market, loudness and fidelity wise to now sounding just as crappy as everyone else.

Don't know, but I see Patrick Ellis is on WECT now with Gannon. Seems Wilmington and Greenville stations are doing the flip flop a lot these days.
