But with OTA reception so much depends on the kind of receiving antenna you have, your location, the terrain, etc. Higher power transmissions can help, but they are no guarantee of easy reception.

I use an indoor antenna, and WNCN comes in just fine,
In fact, I tend to have more problems with WRAL and WRAZ, even though those two stations provide a slightly stronger signal.

WNCT has another evening co-anchor coming in.

They didn't even spell his name right in the press release. #fail

He's really Ken Watlington

I think I remember him on WWAY back in the 90s? I guess all the long timers at TV 3 got together and decided to go to WNCT.

17 will work fine if you live close, but when you start moving out a few counties away, those viewers will not get the signal they need to have a picture while stations that run at the full 1 million watts will come in fine. The best antenna for low frequencies on the UHF end is the Winegard HD 8800. Most people with outdoor rigs have those yagi style long nose antennas, and those most times do better at high frequencies above channel 30.

Wow, ever think that might be intentional? TV people use modifications of their names all the time.

I have friends over on Evans St. They don't deserve the bashing or insinuation that they're too incompetent to spell someone's name correctly.

He's right, the new management doesn't deserve that. Old habits die hard. The previous management made the station look like it was in market # 200. To be fair they actually put out a even better product than WNCN now.

I like WNCT and the product. I was just joking around, with the new members choice of handle (hence the big smile). I also think that they are a good friend to have for whoever they know at the studio. Good friends like that are hard to come by.

So speaking of WNCT...

Nexstar Broadcasting is buying Media General. I feel bad for the people at WNCT. That station along with many more are about to be absolutely cratered. The lean years will look good when Nexstar is done.

Maybe they will surprise you. Why do you think this? I am not familiar with Nexstar so I can't say I agree or disagree...

Also it seems WCTI is getting a new set that will be shown next week.

Nexstar is known for their extensive cost-cutting, to put it nicely.

What Trip said.

I don't see how they can cut more costs from WNCN (Raleigh) and still put out a product that's even remotely competitive. Stop doing news? Force WNCN and WNCT into some type of sharing arrangement? $4.6 billion for Media General, they're gonna have to pay for it some how.

[QUOTE=Retspin;40697770]WRAL is much more powerful than WNCN even though they are on the same tower. It will be interesting to see how this effects WITN and WECT, since they have always benefited by the weak NBC affiliates out of Raleigh.

FCC ruled this week that WRAL must be removed from cable systems in Lenoir and Pitt counties. Petition was filed by WNCT two years ago, but it looks like WITN will get the benefit.

In another ruling, WECT will be removed from Sampson County. This was filed by WNCN at the same time.

What about Cumberland county and WECT? They are still on Warner there. The cable provider in Sampson co is Star vision, and I know WECT was on the low channel listing on channel 6, so I have a hard time believing that nobody watched it.

Never mind, I found the doc.

Wow. There are going to be a LOT of pissed off people. I feel bad for Suddenlink getting stuck in the middle of this. You know everyone is going to blame them.

Seems like CBC should be able to appeal this based on the network affiliation change?

The problem is cable doesn't count, only antenna viewers. With cable, you don't use an antenna, since everyone can now use a dish or cable subscription, and see all their networks. Up until the mid 90s there was no cable in much of Sampson county for instance. Everyone there had antennas. Back in the analog times, sometimes you had a weak station in a market, and a strong out of market, and that led to cross-over. Those days have gone away, and when digital went live, people got nervous and jumped to a service provider, and they no longer count as OTA like so many used to with those big VHF air antennas on the roofs... It's a shame. I blame stations some also, because they did not explain what a UHF antenna was or how far their signals actually reach and what kind of gear would do the job. In the end they loose viewers and advertising.

On another note, WITN ME TV is now on Time Warner cable 1251

It's a shame the FCC is too spineless to make this an apples-to-apples comparison.

WNCT needs to open up a bureau at the state capitol and actually start doing some investigative journalism, since they felt need to have same removed. The public comments submitted during the open period pointed out this but the FCC neglected to take it into consideration.

Regardless of the network affiliation change, WRAL has traditionally had significant out of market viewing because of strong news programming and coverage of NC government and politics from Raleigh. So I am sure it may be missed in that regard. Perhaps antenna reception is possible in some of these fringe areas.

I find it comical that Media General went through all that trouble to get these stations evicted off cable only have a network swap. They won't benefit from it. Serves them right.

If WRAL is on the cable systems in the eastern part of the state, doesn't that hurt the more local stations and hurt the small businesses in the area?

We don't have *local* stations. They're all owned by large companies. WRAL is owned by a North Carolina family. Watching them is itself patronizing a local business.

So, does anyone know when exactly Suddenlink will be removing WRAL from its lineup? And does anyone have any advice antenna wise for me to be able to pick up Channel 5 from where I live around halfway between Greenville and Farmville?

Thanks for any help!
