Video on 15.1 and 15.2 looks fine to me, but I'm also interested to see what it looks like when there's sports on 15.1.

Charter has some work to do (what else is new, right?).

15.2 is now showing up in HD on Charter cable channel 616.

57.1's SD feed moved from channel 2 to channel 6. 15.2 is supposed to be on channel 2, but it's currently showing 15.4.

Anyone know if DirecTV / Dish and Uverse have picked up 15.2?

3.1 and 15.1 were already bad for macroblocking with football. Maybe the new encoder at 15 will help.

WISC (3.1 and 3.2) would benefit from a new encoder. Also, I don't know why they haven't switched 3.2 (TVW) to 16x9 480i. A number of local subchannels, notably both WPT ones are now in that format.

I have Dish and they never carried any of the local subchannels, only the main ones. They don't even carry 3.2, TVW. Maybe they'll carry 15.2 now if they can reach a carrier deal.

I just checked Dish and they do carry 15.2. They placed it at channel 57 and moved WBUW to 58. Strange. Their channel assignments may change in future.

I wonder if in the near'ish future WBUW will pick up another affiliation (possibly Spanish), stay an Indy, or just be auction fodder? Any thoughts?

Not Spanish, maybe go to a Godcaster (TBN/TCT/Daystar)?

Don't know if a dedicated religious network would be affiliated with a Madison full power station. OTOH, ION or a whole bunch of diginets (MHZ or Buzzr anyone?) may be a good fit for the area. My gut however is still saying auction bait.

If WBUW ends up going away, I wonder what is going to happen regarding the 99 year lease the station owners have with the WMTV owners. That is income for the station that contractually is still there, unless of course there is an out clause covering such a situation.

Wasn't the tower and ground equipment brought outright by Grey/ WMTV outright a few years ago?

That I do not know. If they did, that would solve the problem. BTW, what ground equipment?

I did a capture of the mux and ran the output thru TSReader and created a mux line chart.

Unfortunately I totally forgot about it and didn't do the capture until there was only the game on NBC. The line chart starts @ 9:57 pm.

Please God do not turn 57 into a religious crap channel.

If WISC is gonna live in the Stone Age and not turn 3-2 into an HDTV channel. Move it to 57! Sick of sports on TVW in stretched 480i

Tonight's Packers game on 15-1 is sorta decent. Don't see the tiling like with old MPEG-2 but still my NFL GamePass 4.5meg video Airplayed from my iPad to Apple TV looks better for the same game. Not 60FPS but still better PQ

Since I do not watch, I have no idea what their setting is for the SD stream. Other than sports, is the other stuff correct?

I'm busy watching the Emmy awards and capturing the backhaul feed, so can't capture the game.

3-2 had a football game over the weekend that was widescreen 480i.

Did it not display correctly because WISC had the display info set wrong, or because your equipment displayed it wrong?

They had a game on Saturday at 11 AM. It was 16x9 letterbox inside their 4x3 480i broadcast. The TV would have to be set to a zoom setting to display correctly full screen.

As I said before, 3-2 should go to 16x9 480i at least and the station could get a new encoder. SEC football in 1080i on their main station still looks terrible. Thursday night football appears to originate at 720p and although the broadcast is 1080i, apparently looks better because the original source is 720p.

Finally, it would be nice if 15-4 went to 16x9 480i as they were on 15-2. They are 4x3 now and the picture is stretched.

Why not call WISC engineering and ask them.

I seriously doubt that CBS is sourcing the game in 720p. Only Fox and ABC/ESPN do that. CBS and NBC source 1080i.

It is your TV setting. 15-4 is 4:3, so your TV should be putting pillar bars when displaying it. Check your setting for that channel. Since 15-4 is new to your TV, it might be defaulting to filling the screen. A little bit ago I captured 15 and looked at 15-4 with VLC and it is displaying correctly.

I'll consider contacting all the locals and ask them to consider going to 16x9 and using AFD to control all their subchannel aspect ratio displays. That's what really is best.

I assumed the Thursday night NFL games looked better than Saturday SEC games because they were sourced from NFL network and assumed they were 720p. I looked it up and NFL network apparently is 1080i. But they DO look better to me; I don't know why. Maybe others have noticed this.

What I should have said is 15-4 should use AFD like they did on 15-2. It is a 16x9 picture but some converter boxes and sets can't display it in proper 16x9 letterbox without the AFD info.

True. If the content is either 16:9, or 4:3, that would indeed be the way to go.

When I checked at 11 am this morning, 15-4 was 4:3, it was not 16:9. It was an old McHale's Navy episode.
