While getting ready to capture the feed of Tuesday's Mega Weapons, I've noticed that PBS Kids is no longer in test mode. It was still in test mode last week Wednesday.

Another re-transmission dispute, this time between Gray TV, the owner of 99 stations nationwide, including WMTV ch. 15 and Dish Network. The info on WMTV's site and their scrolling alert mimic Gray's recent press release, which is easily found with a web search. Gray's message seems somewhat disingenuous to me, as Dish normally won't kick stations off on their own. It's harder to find Dish's response, but there is a general one. I don't understand why they couldn't at least agree to an extension unless Gray wants the extension to include more money than Dish is paying now.

This is one article that outlines Gray's press release and Dish's response from Roanoke, VA.

http://www.roanoke.com/business/news...1c4ea1134.html

I'm a Dish subscriber but can get WMTV OTA clearly, so the only impact on me would be losing the program info from Dish's channel guide if they drop them. But I tire of these disagreements. Typically, the broadcast channel owners ask for more money than they really deserve and the cable or satellite provider will only offer perhaps a slight more than the last agreement, which seems fair to me. The broadcast channel owners will always say their programming is worth a lot more money than it really is.

I suggest Dish subscribers who get WMTV that read this thread contact WMTV directly and ask them to tell their owners to negotiate in good faith and not expect to get loads more money than they did before and more than other similar local broadcast station owners already get from Dish.

Auction repack channel changes:
WISC (3.1): 50 -> 11 (VHF-High; means they got money)
WMSN (47.1): 49 -> 18 (Still UHF)
WIFS (57.1, formerly WBUW): 32 -> 21 (I thought they would cash out completely, but staying on UHF means they didn't take any money.)

Not changing channels:
WMTV (15.1): 19
WHA (21.1): 20
WKOW (27.1): 26

They'll need it to replace the waveguide and antenna. I guess they wanted money and their VHF coverage area back, though I do not know if it will change much.

Wow, I guess Sinclair loves spending money on a new waveguide and antenna, yet again.

They won't have to spend a dime on waveguide or antenna.

The FCC assigned them to a new channel and will pay for equipment replacement.

In the end it's the American wireless customers who are/will be paying for it....

It's just that their cash from past and future monthly payments will be passing through several hands (wireless companies/spectrum buyers, FCC/government) in the process.

So the dummy question for me is, if I have UHF only antenna, I now need VHF for WISC. I am assuming that would include the subs?

At the antenna, there is no distinction between the "main" channel and any "sub" channels. It's all one combined signal from the time it leaves the station's encoder/modulator until it gets inside your tuner and is demodulated/decoded.

We have a (slightly used) channel 11 transmitter for WISC! haha Too bad we took off and scrapped our ch. 11 antenna.

Also, on the "not spending a dime on waveguide" Not necessarily true. FYI... when we moved from ch. 49, our existing ch 47 waveguide would not work. It all had to be removed/scrapped and we got some "pre-owned" waveguide from a sister station in San Antonio. The length of the sections determines what channels it can be used for. The joints in the sections can disrupt the wavelength flowing through the waveguide so it wouldn't tune properly. Just looking at the specs, our current waveguide SHOULD work on ch 18 as well as 49.

and yeah, like Trip said, this should all be paid for with proceeds from the auction. the next snag will be... will there be enough tower crews to do all this work on all these stations? will the antenna/transmission line manufacturers be able to keep up? (good thing Sinclair bought Dielectric a few years ago)... then when will ATSC 3.0 be ready to go? transition two things at once or go through TWO transitions? tough call.

Your crystal ball should have told you that could have sold it to WISC's parent. Oh well.

If you go with the should and it doesn't work, what then?

Yes, I'm seeing the exact same thing on my TVs. No idea why, though. A quick search on Google didn't net me any explanation.

best thing to do is contact DTVAmerica (the owner).

http://dtvamerica.com/contact/

Just list the station and explain what is happening and they usually respond quickly. I've e-mailed them a couple times about the stations here in Minneapolis and they usually fix things like this quickly

Even the website info for this station is messed up. Click on the coverage map and you get Memphis, TN.

Has anyone else noticed the recent lineup changes with Charter/Spectrum? I haven't been watching TV much lately so I don't know exactly when this change occurred, but I'm guessing it must be pretty recent.

I no longer get 18 of the HD channels that were available just recently. These HD channels include Animal Planet HD, Comedy Central HD, Lifetime Movie Network HD, Travel Channel HD, SpikeHD, VH1HD, MTVHD, CMTHD, BET-HD, MTV2HD, Golf HD, FS2HD, NICHD, TCMHD, TVLANDHD, GSNHD, OWNHD and POPHD.

I noticed that our bill has increased recently. Both my internet and TV services have increased another $2/month. Quite the deal! Pay more, get less.

Does anyone know what's going on here? Charter/Spectrum reps don't really have an explanation, except to say sorry for the inconvenience.

Nothing different here. Same channels. If they didn't already tell you, unplug wait 5 seconds or so, and then plugin the box.
Pretty sure the recent tv increase was for the "broadcast surcharge" fee.

I don't have the Charter/Spectrum box. I still use a Windows 7 PC running WMC (HDHomeRun, Cablecard and tuner) and I get a message about not having a subscription to view those changes. If I view Spectrum's online channel guide and filter by "my channels" and "HD only", those 18 channels are no longer on my list.

Last week, I called them and mentioned that several years ago a Charter technician told me our internet speed would be increased to 100 Mbps 'very soon'. That never happened, so I asked why and if it was now possible to get the speed increase. The Spectrum rep looked into it and said I could, but would have to switch to their new TV service called "Select" which will cost $2 more per month. He didn't say anything about any channel lineup changes but mentioned my price for internet and phone would remain the same. So I agreed to the changes to get the speed increase.

I'll call again today and ask about the lineup changes.

Yep, that sounds right. I am under the old, digital plus package. When they went to the metals I noticed I would lose some if I changed, so I've left it.
Oddly, I have Win7, HDHomerun, cablecard also.

Oh well, correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think any of those channels are producing any interesting original programming except Comedy Central which I will miss.

Nothing to see here, keep moving along. I would miss TCM. though. Family would kill me over Animal Planet.
