I tried punching in 28 just for grins and got nothing. Of course being in Melbourne, even with an outdoor antenna up as high as it can go we're lucky to pick up WESH on good days .

My flabber has been gasted and my gob has been smacked. Anything else?

Did a re-scan of my TV today. It puts back in what channels I had previously deleted. Couldn't help but notice WACX 55.6 is now running QVC2. I never even knew a QVC2 existed. I'd be curious to know how much money these channels make. Especially ones like this that are on channels few know about considering 55.6 is only available over the air.

QVC2 use to be QVC plus which is a 3 hour delay of QVC.
I think they QVC2 do have some live stuff now

Is there something going on with WESH (2-1)?

It has come in solidly for me for years. Yesterday, it started dropping in and out. I checked on my Samsung's internal signal strength indicator and WESH goes rapidly from a 40% signal to 20% to zero and then back.

I don't think it's the spring foliage growing in, that happened a while back. I checked all of my equipment and all connections are solid with the antenna still pointed in the proper direction. All other channels seem unaffected.

Any ideas?

Could easily be electrical interference. Hard to diagnose without a spectrum analyzer.

And it wouldn't be on the other channels because they're all UHF and WESH is the only VHF?

I haven't had any problems previously with WESH during thunderstorms...

I just checked and I'm getting between 95-98 percent signal strength (I'm in Melbourne too). Try punching in 11.3 and see what you get there as far as a signal.

Can anyone recommend me an exterior antenna that is not an eye sore or too large? Something that perhaps can be attached to the current DirectTV antenna I have installed on my roof?

Here is a link to my TV Fool results:

http://www.tvfool.com/?option=com_wr...e6a4b86e9ee87a

I am mostly interested in getting channels 31 and 49. Currently, I have one of those leaf, indoor antennas and I cannot pick up channel 49 and I can only pickup 31.2 which is the SD signal of that channel. Channel 31.1 would be the HD version but that one for some reason I cannot pickup.

Thanks for any help!

Just guessing, I'd say you're getting WTMO-CD in standard definition via WRDQ as they simulcast the programming on a subchannel. I don't live there, so I don't know for sure, but, generally, if you can get one subchannel, you should get them all as they're all sent as part of the same signal. The fact you can't tells me you're getting WTMO from WRDQ's signal.

To get WVEN and WTMO directly, you're probably going to need more aluminum than you're comfortable with. Hopefully, someone in the area will have a better idea.

Also, please clarify "attached to the current DirecTV antenna.." Have you canceled DirecTV or does this need to run concurrent with DirecTV? There are a number of antennas that will fit on a DirecTV dish mounting or mast. I've used them many times, but rarely with the dish still attached. If you're not using DirecTV, then you can use the coax, but OTA and DirecTV can't share the same coax in most cases.

Walking the fine line between jaw-dropping and a plain ol' yawn.

I plan on trying with an outdoor antenna, just to see what happens. What I meant by DirecTV antenna is that I plan on mounting the OTA directly on the arm that extends away from the dish. Sort of like try to conceal or blend in the OTA antenna. The reason for this is because of HOA restrictions. They only allow DirecTV antennas to be mounted on roofs. This DirectTV belongs to the homeowner and it's not in service. I will just use it as a "stand" for the OTA antenna.

I attached a pic of the antenna I ordered. I hope I can pick up WVEN and WTMO. Fingers crossed!

That restriction is illegal. If you own your roof, you can put an antenna on it. See here:

I had an antenna much like this (Philips SDV-2940) when I was living in an apartment. I bought three five-foot sections of mast from Radio Shack, spray painted them and the antenna green, and put the mast into a slightly bigger pipe that I drove into the ground. That way, I could take it down if lightning was a big concern. This was all next to a tree, so the idea was that it would sort of blend in and not draw too much attention. Buried the cable and brought it in near the front door. Antenna worked great for UHF and sort of OK for VHF (it's branded as a UHF only antenna, so if you're not close to a VHF station's transmitter, you won't reliably receive VHF). On good nights, stations as far away as 120 miles would be picked up, including on rare occasion, this tiny little super low-power station in St. Pete, some 100 miles away (WPDS-LD ch. 14).

After a while, I wanted VHF stations reliably, so I ordered the Channel Master StealthTenna, which was around $30. Also picked up the Channel Master outdoor amplifier (CM-7777), and it worked great. After moving to a house, I've yet to install it outside. It's sitting inside up high and picks up most everything in the UHF band (VHF signals don't seem to make it through the walls), including, on occasion, a 15kw station from Daytona Beach (WPXB-LD), some 70 miles away. Need to get that thing mounted outside to see what it can do in the clear!

Yesterday I did several tests with this antenna in different locations throughout the edges of the roof and never was able to pickup more than 40 channels. Very disappointed indeed.

The leaf antenna I have taped to the window picks up 60+ channels!

I was really hoping I would be able to pickup WVEN and WTMO.

Do you know if these 2 stations are UHF or VHF?

WVEN is UHF. Not sure what is going to happen after the stations are repacked. I have a Clearstream Antenna sitting in a Pot on my patio I got on my last scan 78 channels. Have not picked up WATV 47 for a few months, I get both WVEN channels. Of course I'm in Southwest Orlando near Universal. Also UNIVISION has bought WRCF 29 so it's unknown what they are going to do with it That could/may/who knows put it on 29

They are both UHF... WVEN is RF49 and WTMO is RF31. The only full-power VHF in Orlando is WESH at RF11... there are several in the Tampa area.

Yes, and it also depends on how far away you are from the transmitters. Have you done a TV FOOL report yet? It'll tell you distances and directions....

WTMO is going to be problematic at 25 miles away if you're only four feet off the ground. It's not the strongest of stations, and I remember that it would come and go, even with the antenna outside on the mast. WVEN is farther away and not in the same direction as the bulk of your stations, so a bigger antenna SHOULD help to bring it in. At five miles from the main batch of transmitters, I think recommending an amplifier for those two would just create problems with those strong signals you've got from everybody else.....

Ok but you know what's odd? With my leaf antenna glued to the window, I am able to pick up 31.2 WTMO-CD clearly without any issues. The only issue is that it's a 480i standard definition signal. Also, do you have any suggestions on what kind of antenna I might be able to pickup WVEN with?

It's hard to tell someone what Antenna to use because each situation is different. All I can say is I have this Antenna on my Patio and I can pick up WVEN . My TV Fool report has me 30 Miles from the transmitter.
Here was a scan I did yesterday, I also have 65 and 68 but the DVD was at the end. Used to pick up WSWF but as of yesterday have not picked it up on both TV. I also have not picked up WATV 47 for a few months now
A Friend in Detroit has it also and is happy with it

Trip has a good list on his site.

And there's the list at Station Index.

Wikipedia has lists of stations for the entire state.

And there's a handy app for locating transmitters near you. Also has contour maps and some other information.

Walking the fine line between jaw-dropping and a plain ol' yawn.

Was just clicking thru the channels when I got to 15.2, which had been WDSC's transmission of the Florida Channel. There's now a notice saying that WDSC would no longer be broadcasting the Florida Channel and to go to 68.4 for it.

Any idea what is going to replace it?
