Yes that's true.

I was talking to some other people on a similar forum and they believe the Nexstar-Katz cable carriages will just take a while.

From looking at Katz's own websites it appears that really no Nexstar stations around the country even have cable carriage for the new channels on any cable system.

So it appears it's simply taking Nexstar forever vs the cable co's themselves taking forever.

WJAC and Grit

As many hre assume as well as myself, WJAC will have to drop GRIT since WTAJ states they will get it soon.

I figure like it was mentioned before, they may end up getting getTV as I seen evidence of a deal between them and Sinclair before.

I was wondering if anybody knew what the chances were of WJAC going with Justice Network?

I noticed JN doesn't seem to have a ton of affiliates and figured maybe they could try for more.

Nexstar

Apparently it's not surprised that WTAJ isn't getting their new subchannels carried on local cable systems in the area.

After seeing some Facebook posts and messages on a few other forums, many are asking why Nexstar and also Media-General seems to not be getting carriage virtually anywhere in the country for the new Katz subchannels.

Also not hearing much about Heroes & Icons from WPCW with cable carriage but seems more folks want to see the Katz ones.

WHVL claims they are or were going to switch to 100% HD not too long ago but so far Atlantic Broadband had not added a 702.

Though ABB seems to have hit a major slug in TV maintenance with nothing being changed since first week of Oct. They have switched to Internet only maintenance since.

Comcast in Ebensburg does not even carry WHVL and State College already has their HD for ages now.

Seems like a sluggish time for cable carriage right now in the area.

What is Sinclair's motive?

I noticed WJAC is showing a ton more games now on MeTV.

Fun for me as two shows I wanted I have to wait 7 1/2 months for a re-air.

Anyway, today they showed 5 straight hours of Hockey on MeTV.

The second game wasn't even for our region, it was Minnesota and Colorado.

I wonder if eventually WTAJ will take GRIT and WJAC will slap on ASN 24/7 and beg for cable carriage.

My question is how does Sinclair even feel airing games on MeTV makes sense?

There seems to be no advertising on WJAC NBC or even MeTV to let viewers know games are even on except when they did "Friday Night Rivals".

Do they expect viewers to go "I want to watch a Sports Game, let me check MeTV."?

Wjac/watm/wwcp

Did WJAC/Sinclair get some sort of new weather display system that they shared with WATM/WWCP?

I noticed for years WJAC/WATM/WWCP all pretty much just put weather/school closing banners on the bottom of the screen just losing viewing space on the program.

Yet it seems WJAC, WATM, and WWCP all have the ability to "push" the video upwards from the bottom and show the weather/school closing banners underneath.

I've attached 3 screenshots.

The first being WJAC, second being WATM, and third being WWCP.

I also checked WTAJ for the fun of it and they are just doing the old thin banner on the screen, nothing special.

The fouth screenshot is just I got a kick out WJAC squeezing the school closings to fit in a weather alert. It's like screen inception, LoL.

WJAC is now providing all the technical services for WATM and WWCP. They have the ability to either squeeze or overlay weather alerts, so it comes down to choosing one or the other. But look for a more similar look from all three in the future.

Well so much for ABB adding any channels to Limited Basic.

We still have no WHVL HD and still no WTAJ Escape and Laff.

I think ABB has decided to completely ignore the Limited Basic package.

I know Comcast also doesn't have WTAJ's subchannels but we could at least get WHVL HD.

Don't expect much from ABB...how they have any cable business is beyond me. Dish network has been adding quite a few subs including gettv, laff, cozi(fetv), justice network, & grit.

WPSU will be adding PBS Kids to their OTA lineup starting on January 16th...too bad their signal doesn't reach much of the area

Yea I know exactly what you mean.

Oddly Nexstar themselves may be the main issue with WTAJ.

Looking at various Nexstar stations across the country, virtually no Nexstar station has Laff, Escape, Grit, & Bounce TV added to any cable company, from ABB to Comcast to Charter to Spectrum to MetroCast, and regional ones. Virtually nobody has them.

Shockingly and Impressively, Zap2It just did a channel update and shows ABB will have WPSUDT4 (PBS Kids) at Ch 118 along with 204 Discovery Life.

Oddly we will have all of WPSU except WPSUDT2 (Create). We did have Create at first when CW was formed but it was switched to World after a month or two.

I never seen ABB do this many channel additions so quickly and often.

Discovery Life was added around the first of the year. BBC America was also brought back on 82. The SD version of WE was moved to 81 and Cooking Channel was added at 202.

I see now that Discovery Life was added not to long ago.

Must have been a delay in my guide service noticing it.

Anyway, surprised ABB doesn't appear to be advertising any of these additions anywhere.

I always glance at my bills and saw nothing about any of these changes.

ABB really didn't announce channel additions when I had them. I'd just find them going through the guide one day.

Even when they added about 15 HD channels at once in 2 different intervals in Cumberland, they had no announcement until months later to justify rate increases.

I know what you mean.

They once bragged they added Antenna TV but didn't even get the station right they said "We added WJAC - Antenna TV" during a rate increase.

When they were going digital they kept using moving LMN to Value as "something new" even though they did it a month or so before.

Oddly they did announce on the bills CBS Sports Net. So I guess it all comes down to if they care to announce.

They usually announce on the bills removing a channel though.

I don't know how Sinclair is going to keep up.

Sinclair already planned on launching an online-to-TV based network called TBD.

How can Sinclair possibly have room on stations for 4 subnetworks they own?

Take WJAC for example.

ASN can still be on MeTV so that can fit for them, but Comet, Charge!, and TBD?

Even if they did shove MeTV, Comet, TBD, and Charge! in, would cable co's like ABB and Comcast really give Sinclair that many subchanels on the cable systems?

Just wondering if this ever happened to anyone else. I have digital adapter boxes at my house and a cable card hooked in a hdhonerun at my house... Every so often one of the digital adapters will pause the video, with the audio still playing for 3 seconds until they both sync with each other. As far as I kno my cable card does not do this. I'm just wondering if anyone else with the cheap digital adapters has come across this problem.

WPSU Kids

WPSU Kids popped up at 75.5.

Interesting placement as 75 is border area for those with Limited Basic traps so it may cause some customers to complain.

WATM & WWCP SD 16:9 in 4:3?

I was noticing lately that while most SD channels on ABB such as WJAC, WTAE, WTAJ, and WPCW all seem to be 4:3 overscan, WATM and WWCP seem to appear 16:9 even though it's reported as 4:3.

Only reason I ask is, while most locals in SD on ABB cut off video content as evidently compared to their HD equivalents, WATM and WWCP appear to be chopping off the least.

WQED Create?

Something strange is going on.

Local Channel 79.102 which was for ages the SD version of WQED PBS.

It randomly today changed to WQED's Create subchannel.

At first I thought, did somebody screw up the receivers and change WQED's signal?

But I found out 77.3 WQED PBS HD is still showing normal.

This appears to be very similar to Altoona, which shows Education on Ch 13 but on 713 it shows WQED PBS HD.

Tbd?

It looks like GRIT was taken off WJAC and replaced with TBD.

I honestly thought our area would be more of a Charge! type area vs TBD.

I looked at the schedule and both are lackluster, but they do stream the feed. I got dish network since they have sub channels. Get TV, BUZZR, GRIT, Justice, Cozi, ION, etc. I can pull in MeTV, Comet, Escape, Laff, Antenna TV, and THIS TV with my cheap antenna and fed into the dish box using their OTA adapter.

I expect WTAJ to add Grit to their .4 soon

That's what I thought also but fat luck that will do me with ABB and WTAJ refusing to do a deal with cover any of their subchannels.

Your best bet if you want the most sub channels would be dish network and use QAM for Me, Comet, This, and Antenna TV since you have no reception. I have dish on one TV, and a QAM on another if I want to watch WHVL. The only channel you would not have is Escape. Get TV is a great channel we watch a lot, and dish seems to be adding subs all the time. BUZZR was the newest they added a few weeks ago.

A lot of these deals are less about what might be successful in a market, and more about who owns who and what. TBD is a format out of Sinclair that originates from a very brief reformat of Washington's NewsChannel8, a local 24-hour DC area news channel that Sinclair inherited when it purchased WJLA, the ABC affiliate in DC.

These subchannels are frequently subjected to musical chairs and format shifts.
