They are a part of DTV Utah, but I don't think they have redundancy in their transmitters. I believe everybody else has a dual transmitter, which can operate with either/both amplifier "cabinets".

KSL had similar problems with our original transmitter. The screen supply just didn't like working at 9500' ASL. So, KSL is actually on our second DTV transmitter in 12 years.

KTVX should look in to getting one of the MediaFLO units. I think there are three or four in the SLC area.

....DTV Utah members are KUTV(2), KTVX(4), KSL(5), KUED(7), KUEN(9), KBYU(11), KJZZ(14), and KUCW(30)....KSTU(13), KTMW(20) and KUPX(16) are next door.... KUTH(32) is at Lake Mountain..... KPNZ(24) is in the KSL building, as is Telemundo (50, operating on 14 and 10)....KUCL(26) is on the East Bench, and 19 is on Ensign.

I thought KTVX was in their own building a couple peaks to the south?
Did this change recently? or am I thinking of someone else?

KTVX is in the DTV Utah consortium.

I always heard that their Mt. Nelson site was restricted to only having the one analog TV station up there (some kind of zoning or lease restriction), so I assumed they would tear it down after 2009, but it looks like a whole lot of other stuff is up there, permanently.
I kinda wonder if KTVX still has ENG receivers up there?

KULX-LD on VHF Channel 10 has permanently turned off their Farnsworth Peak transmitter.
They are now operating on UHF Channel 14 only, as of Thursday afternoon.
KULX-LD is owned by Airwaves, and is licensed to Ogden.

KEJT-LP, Salt Lake City, analog channel 50 owned by NBC Telemundo is still operating on 50, although it has had a CP to go Digital on UHF channel 31 since 2006.

CPs are only good for three years, although I think the FCC was allowing two six-month extensions for digital conversions. Nevertheless, the KEJT-LD companion channel 31 CP was dismissed by the FCC in April 2010. At this time, KEJT-LP has not revealed any plans for digital conversion.

That was confusing....
I see that it was renewed in March, 2007, and expired in 36 months.
I guess they will just stay analog until the end. I wonder why they even bother.

Looks like 43 in Provo has a valid CP for Digital on 16.

And, I noticed that analog 23 is weak again. I wonder if they have antenna problems that are blowing out amplifier modules?

Actually, the digital companion channel was applied for in November 2006, but wasn't granted until March 2007. KEJT applied for an extension in March 2010, on the day the CP was to expire, but the extension request was dismissed about a month later. There's no indication of whether the FCC rejected the extension request, or if KEJT's owners told the FCC never mind. I'm guessing the latter.

Hey KTVX,

I'm tired of the compression noise. I feel like I'm watching poorly encoded YouTube from two years ago. Give me back some bits on 4-1.

Thanks.

Good Morning America 7-9 am kept cutting out this morning on Directv. There was some rain but not heavy. Other channels seemed to be working fine.

Anyone else have the same problems?

Thanks

It appears that there is a problem with Channel 4. However they don't put anything out on their web page, just leave you hanging in the wind!!

Both OTA and Directv impacted.

KJZZ has microwave problems at the mountain, so you may see some interruptions od service. They are working on it, awaiting parts and re-setting the receiver as necessary.

Also, noticed that KPDR (19) has been down for a few days. Transmitter problem, or just lack of power (???)...don't know. They are on Ensign Peak.

Looks like KPDR-LD has been sold. The new owners say there are some legal issues to be worked out, concerning who is actually in control at the moment, so no one is sure why they are off the air right now.

Maybe we'll hear something soon.

That's gonna come as a real surprise to the new owners.
Where did you see that? Is it something very recent?

I found it. Looks like it was filed by the sellers...maybe because the new owners asked them to file (temporary at least) when I told them it was off the air.

They are on Ensign Peak. I'd suspect the power is OK up there, with so many other folks on that site. I wonder if their transmitter or antenna are damaged by weather.

Also, they had two of the five channels dead, and one without audio, when I saw them last.

Thank you. The buyer was not aware of the notice to go dark.

Several months ago you posted a thread about a new fiber optic line going south to the cable head end in Cedar City. Do you know if that was completed?

The head of the translator/ LPTV department of the FCC media bureau said there was over 600 translators in Utah.

A fiber would free up a great deal of channels used as relays and lower the cost to the counties in Utah.

The fiber optic system has been up and running for a while. It won't replace translators, though. It supplements the translator system, which doesn't carry all of the Salt Lake stations.
Most translators have a considerable number of direct viewers, even though some are classified as "relay" sites.

Several years ago the translator relay system in Utah was replaced by microwave through out the state. This relay freed up translators having
to daisy chain to every corner of Utah.

According to the FCC CDBS, KPDR filed to move to Farnsworth peak and is on public notice for 11/18.

That is going to create problems at that height. In addition, its location is a 1/2 mile north of the KSL Tower and down the slope to the tower/ storage building.

At that location Davis County north with get a good signal. I wonder what Ron is going to think about a signal coming straight at his channel 19 near Lewis Peak.

There was a reason KPDR channel 19 was at Ensign, but hey, lets see how a co-channel overlapping contour map operates.

OET 69 study does not demonstrate the actual interference, just the predicted interference.

Interesting to say the least.

KTVX had problems with their power amp about a week ago, and they are currently running at very low power.

Their people are up there right now (yeah,....holiday weekend ), installing a new tube and all the parts around it. They expect to be back to normal tonight.

That's too bad. I love their cycling coverage...and have recently started watching the rugby matches. I will certainly miss Universal Sports.

Why couldn't they nix that useless KSL Weather on 5.3 instead?

I know, I know...there's a difference in the bandwidth they dedicate to these two sub-channels...but still...

Maybe we could start an "Occupy to keep Universal Sports on 5.2", huh?
