Some Denver info:

abc - channel 7 - HD
nbc - channel 9 - HD
CBS - channel 4 - HD, 5.1
wb - channel 2 - HD
pbs - channel 6 - HD

The only station I know for sure does 5.1 is CBS (and of course Fox, when they go online). I think abc might, but you'd have to ask one of the 10 or 12 people within range of their alleged HD signal.

Updated.

Just 2 or 3 days and we've covered over 1/4 of the country. What are the odds that we have a forum member in Glendive, MT?

KSTP-DT (ABC) is HD and 5.1
KARE-11 (NBC) is HD, not sure actually about 5.1
UPN- Not in HD at this time.
WB-HD. Not sure about 5.1. It operates low power, I can't really get it in with my indoor antenna.

WFAA - ABC - HD 5.1
KTVT - CBS - HD 5.1

Keep up the good work and thank God for Excel!

If your city hasn't been updated yet, or the status has changed, please post your city's HD / DD5.1 offerings so we can keep this list up-to-date.

Networks are listed in this order: ABC (1) - CBS (2) - FOX (3) - NBC (4) - PBS (5) - UPN (6) - WB (7)

with the primary channel number in the parentheses. Since an increasing number of STB and tuners re-map the channels to the station's primary channel, that is the number I'm using.

CAPITAL letters {ABC (9) - FOX (18)} indicate the station is broadcasting in HDTV and DD 5.1.

lower-case letters {abc (3), fox (39)} indicate HDTV, WITHOUT DD 5.1

Cities listed in silver are incomplete. If you live in one of these areas, please post your city's offerings.

I will update the FOX network affiliates as they upgrade. It should be noted that FOX will not officially be sending any HD programming until 9/12/04. However, for the purposes of this list, I will list affiliates that have upgraded to 720p as HD (fox) and those stations who have had their network splicer installed will be listed as HD & DD 5.1 (FOX)

ABC affiliates were added, but channel numbers and DD 5.1 info was not available.
WB affiliates were added, but no DD5.1 info was available.
[*] Seattle, WA abc - FOX (13) - wb (22)

Lafayette, IN (DMA 189) update:
cbs(18)

I wrote back to ask if they're remapped to 18-1 or they just left it as 11-1, but I'll assume they're remapped for now.
Given that this is the only DT station in the DMA, this is complete, save for non-remapped channel PSIP info.

Updated to this point.

If anyone lives in an area that has no HD stations, let me know what market it is so it can be updated. The only comprehensive list I could find was the NAB's list of digital stations. HD isn't referenced on that list, but there are 5 markets with no digital stations, so they have been updated.
(210,208, 207 206 and 107).

Not sure what's up with Tyler, TX.

Other interesting statistics would be ATSC stations running at full power and HDTV stations running at full power.

I hope you're not counting the Denver metro area in your statistics for cities where ABC-HD is available. Their signal is only tunable within a couple miles of their station (for the most part -- there seems to be one narrow band where it reaches some people further away) and is not yet available on cable. Every other station in town, while limited by local zoning issues, has found a way to make their HD signal available to nearly anyone who wants it.
