So if I replace my old Moto DVR and also the HD tuner I have I wouldn't have to pay for an installer to come by anymore and I can just do a self-install? I thought with the Cisco boxes they required an installation, or am I getting different things mixed up?

No install needed as long as you aren't getting the Contour service which links up all the boxes...That's what I did...I got the 2 tuner box...The 6 tuner box was an extra $5/month...Just plug it in like the old boxes....Plus with the new boxes, you get the additional HD channels that don't come with the older Moto boxes...And what Domino doesn't believe is that this is an equipment exchange and not any kind of upgrade. It will not cost you any more per month. I got the 8642HDC ...Go to your local store and get that box and tell them that you don't want the Contour service, just the box...

Do you happen to know what model the HD tuner without a DVR is? I like how tiny and compact my current Motorola model is and I'm guessing the Cisco will be massive in comparison.

[The 4742HDC is not a DVR]

The 4742HDC data sheet says the unit is (HxWxD) 2" x 11.2" x 9"

Wow!!!! Read his post....He asked for the model # for the Non-DVR box....I gave it to him...4742HDC...I was just letting him know the size of the Cisco HDDVR. I guess I provided too much information....Hint, Hint.....

I didn't mean to ruffle your feathers!!

Chuckle...

Him: "Do you happen to know what model the HD tuner without a DVR is? I like how tiny and compact my current Motorola model is and I'm guessing the Cisco will be massive in comparison."

So he was worried about the size of the Cisco non-DVR receivers, and you gave him the dimensions of a Cisco DVR?

OK...sounds logical. rolleyes.gif

Might be... I am not sure what fees were associated with the service that Cox removed

I think they removed or are in the process of doing away with the charge for the extra HD that come with the plus pack and spreading it across all channel options, so they can say they don't charge extra for HD. just my guess

Just got around to opening and reading the last bill. Wow is that an impressive list of across the board price hikes. Maybe you can't do that with satellite, but you probably can with fios.

Hahaha... I thought only OTA viewers could see those commercials. Figured COX/FiOS/Charter would run their own commercials over top of them...

Since you seemed so concerned about my next bill....Here you go

Last month's billing (2/10 - 3/9) $201.14 (This included one On Demand movie @ $5.99)

Current billing (3/10 - 4/9) $192.91

Looks like to me there was no change....

Just like I said....An exchange of equipment doesn't cost you anything..

Analog Tru TV ( Cox channel 57) is double letterboxed again this year for the March Madness coverage. Called Cox, spoke to 4 different reps, told them it did not look that way on Directv, not one had a clue what I was talking about, but all wanted to access my work business account to see what package I had. One did look at his digital receiver in the break room and said it looked ok to him. ( Analog was complaint, digital was checked, mmmmm)
Chatted online with another rep, who wanted to do the same thing.
None cared that the signal is being sent out wrong.

Cox could be using the HD feed and just downconverting it to SD - picture intact. DirecTV could be center-cutting the HD feed and sending it to the SD channel. If TruTV HD is keeping everything (the action, graphics, etc) in the 4:3 safe area, you're not missing anything on the DirecTV SD channel (just fuzzy)...

It is letter boxed, then letter boxed again. They are literally wasting half the vertical pixels in black bars. The local inserts are only letter boxed once. This is the third year I have complained to them about the Tru TV setup. I only watch it during March Madness, maybe it is always screwed up.
They can get TBS and TNT set right, but always have issues with Tru TV.

Finally got around to troubleshooting the cox app yesterday to find out why it wasn't working for me anymore. Resulted in me sending an email to app support asking why they're screwing the customers. With the latest update to the Connect app and the intro of the Contour app, they are keyed in the app store for only a select few devices. So I've gone from an app the works fine to one that won't run because the "updated" version flags me now as an unapproved device. At least the moron on the phone could respond with "do you have an ipad or laptop".

Can't wait to see the price.
I had to call tech support yesterday because my Big10HD, PAC12HD, DIYHD, and HUBHD channels keep going out on my TiVo. When they do come in they're all pixilated and unwatchable, probably a signal strength problem. Anyway, while I was scheduling a service call I asked the tech about the gigabit service. He said they'd received emails but didn't have any details beyond what I'd already read. He did say that his best guess as to where it would launch first would be Oklahoma City.

The measure of a man's character is what he would do if he knew he never would be found out.
