Is KMAX an O & O?. If it is, Comcast has decided to carry it, bandwidth permitting. The UPN affiliate in Philadelphia will be added shortly to Comcast systems in this area that have the available bandwidth.

KMAX is a Viacom owned and operated station. Not quite as simple as it might appear. Our company is working with Comcast to secure a position on their systems for the O&O UPN stations.

Well, I have been advised by senior management that the deal is done. UPN 57 is being added in the Philly market, channel 236. Part of the decision had to do with carriage of Phillies games in HD that are not shown on Comcast Sportsnet. I see no reason why that should not be true for you as well.

No offense JWhip but Bob works for the station, so I'll take his word for it.

NO offense taken. Perhaps there is a bandwidth issue there. All I can say is that UPN 57 is being added to the Philly systems. The master contract between Comcast and Viacom gives Comcast the right to add the UPN O & O affiliates at Comcast's descretion. It does not mandate their carriage. Viacom cannot force their carriage. I have been advised that the decision to add them has been made. There is a big difference between deciding to add them and their actual addition due to bandwith and hardware issues in each particular system. Furthermore, the decision may not have actually been communicated to all concerned. I am extemely confident in my information. THe necessary hardware has been ordered for the addition of UPN affiliates in other O & O's outside Philadelphia. THat is really all you should need to know. This equipment would not be ordered unless the decision has been made. Only time will tell.

As I said if they do the games in HD, Comcast will be more willing to carry them. I don't think our Comcast has much bandwidth left but they will find room if it is important.

Thanks gtree10.

I searched on sacbee.com and found this. Posted on March 3rd.

The cable giant is rolling out a new "video on demand," or VOD, service in Roseville this week that lets customers instantly access about 2,200 hours of archived TV shows ranging from sports to gardening to music videos. VOD will be part of Comcast's digital cable package, which starts at about $50 a month.

Has Roseville had VOD? I checked last night, the VOD was there on channel 1 but was unavailable. I'm in Folsom btw.

To get VOD, I had to have Comcast come out and check my system. VOD has pretty much the same signal strength requirements as high speed internet, so if you don't have enough of a signal going to the box, it won't register. The installer ended up going into my cable closet and splitting the cable so that my box gets a direct line and then the cable goes to my house splitter.

He also ended up having to swap out my box because the first people in the Roseville area to get the new DVR box actually got Sacto boxes. He gave me a Roseville box and they still had to hit the box from the head-end to reset it. About 45 minutes later I finally had VOD.

Not sure that it was worth all the trouble, but I at least have it. My primary concern was KOVR-HD...because of my signal strength issues it was not coming in either. So, that was resolved at the same time.

I get "press ok to activate service" - does it cost extra if I activate? I don't want to do anything thats going to raise my bill

No, the service itself is free. I believe some of the shows and stuff can cost extra, but it clearly shows what is going to cost and what isn't.

*scratches head* Am I doing something wrong? Whenever I press 'OK' it says 'this channel will be available shortly' and goes back to the 'press ok' screen after a few seconds.

No you were not, we all have the same messages on channel 1. I would wait for the work week to begin before worrying to much. The channel is obviously not ready here and no one is going to work on it during the weekend.

I lost KOVR 913 though, all other HDs were fine.

That was what I was getting before I had the Comcast guy out to look at my system (a week ago this past Friday). I could not get 913 (KOVR) either. It turned out to be combination of a signal strength issue and the fact that my box needed swapped out and reset from the head-end.

I picked KOVR up right away after the signal strength came up....but VOD took getting the box reset.

I've watched here in Roseville all night with no problems.

VOD has been up and running on my non-HD box in the bedroom since Saturday night but not on the 6412 in my living room.

Called Comcast and was told that VOD is up and running in Carmichael and Roseville only at this time. Maybe the northeast part of the Comcast area?

Shouldn't the HD version of NCIS at 8 not 7? Even the last night shows were not correct. After the game they had two "Two and Half Men" episodes back to back, one under "Entertainment Tonight" label.

I doubt KOVR will do anything to fix them. They still don't have captions on the HD channel.

The first hour of primetime is shown twice, once in SD at 7 PM then at 8 PM in HD. This is to compensate for the hour time shift. Last night was an anomaly due to the NCAA tourney.

Great! Now maybe I can set a regular recording and not have to do a manual recording for the stuff I want to see.

If they did fix the listing they deserve a thank you note. So it is KOVR not D* or Comcast issue.

Anyone know why there is no HDTV on 925 for tonight's Kings/Sonics game? The programming guide says that is is supposed to be on.
