Not my department. All I can say is that it is being considered. We do have the infrastructure in place now should the situation change.

I live about 64 air miles southwest of the KPOB Transmitter and I can't receive KPOB! Sometimes during strong tropo I can get it! But that don't happen much! So If you guys at WSIL ever decide to increase ERP at KPOB. I would watch your station!

At 64 miles, KPOB would need a taller tower to get to you. I doubt even at 1000 kW at the current height would you be able to receive it.

Since KAIT is the ABC station in your area, I doubt they'd want to impose and risk a fight.

Your exactly right!

But 34.5 kW is extremely low power for UHF! Thats my opinion! Yes I understand KPOB is a translator of WSIL!

It would be nice to have a abc backup when KAIT VHF 8 pixilates at times in the afternoon 55 air miles away. Wish they would had moved to UHF when the Big DTV Switch occured! With a decent power level!

Hi,

I am Terry from WSIU. We have just completed installation of our new automated HD Master Control. We are having some teeting problems which we are working to overcome but expect our signal to improve in the coming weeks.

We will now be able to deliver more network HD and some of our local programming will originate in HD as well. We shall also shall shortly provide many new programs in 5.1 surround sound.

We are working hard to provide alternative programming in our multiplex. If you have any questions about our signal, I will welcome your comments.

Terry

IMHO, it's not worth the price or aggravation unless you REALLY have a rf noise, or interference problem. Even here at TV3 in our rf-rich environment, we've used regular RG-6 in some runs.

Can anyone give info about using Comcast?
I'm interested in channels available, hardware they offer (esp. the cablecards, Tivo DVR), and issues you've had.

Just read on another site that Dish Network locals in HD for Paducah/Cape Girardeau are finally supposed to be live tomorrow. Can anyone here with more knowledge of the situation confirm or deny this? Been waiting forever and was especially bummed last fall when they were announced and then pulled with no explanation.

We've just finished installing the Grass Valley Kayak HD production switcher. Now News 3 will be in HD. This goes for other studio productions such as "This Week in Politics", "Saluki Football with Dale Lennon", the Christmas choirs, etc.

Some items will remain in SD for a little while; remote shots, some news stories and legacy or archival footage for instance.

Enjoy!

It has been discussed. In the eight plus years we've been digital, we've only had one, maybe two requests. Perhaps you should make your wishes known in a more formal manner.

Yeah, Cool-tv is running on 49-2. Looks like old school MTV, I dig it quite a lot, actually.

Thanks Greg I'll give them a shot for an antenna.

Long ago (63 to 68) I held several student work positions at WSIU and worked at WDQN and WFRX.

Now reitred and back in the old stomping grounds in warmer southern IL

WSIL took a major lightning hit:

Quote:
Damage from a lightning strike caused WSIL-TV to go off the air Tuesday morning.

The station also lost all internet and phone service as a result of the strike. Equipment used to broadcast the on-air signal sustained major damage.

Programming was restored Tuesday afternoon in a limited capacity. Crews continue working to resolve technical difficulties.

WSIL will produce regular newscasts. Entertainment programming will also continue as scheduled.

The engineering staff at WSIL is working through out the day to improve the technical quality. It's a painstaking process to track down potential problems. WSIL is awaiting new parts to arrive. We are working to resolve the issue as soon as possible.

I was hoping to find out more here, but I see no comment have been posted by the techs.

I'm also wondering if they're planning on adding any sub-channels.

What would you like to know? We have multiple issues and are working extremely hard to correct them. As for sub-channels, not my department. The infrastructure is there.

Comcast in Paducah, KY: ESPN-HD has been a windowboxed standard definition image for about a week. Any other customers notice this?

Wow, this thread has been quiet for a while now, even though there are a couple new OTA sub-channels up and running in our market.

Also, for some reason WSIL is off air this morning for some reason.... hopefully nothing too major.
