Are you talking about ION in general or the subchannels of WRIC?

I can't get it to work either. It's ridiculous really. I guess I will get an expensive antenna.

I was referring to Ion and not the subchannel. Verizon also broadcast Ion but in HD.

Anyone DVR WTVR 6.1 NFL games? I watched some of the London game early Sunday and was surprised how much motion artifacts I was seeing. I see none of those on NBC or FOX NFL games. I also do not see them on the Redzone channel. Even the CBS games on the Redzone look great. Curious what the bitrates is during the games. Last year I was watching the Redzone and switched to 6.1 because I became very interested in that particular game and I was surprised how much softer the picture looked then the same game feed on the Redzone. I went back and forth when the Redzone was showing that game and the picture on 6.1 was softer and seemed more compressed.

I hear (through several interwebs forums) VZ is cramming more channels per QAM like cable...

I think the next big thing for TV broadcasting is ATSC 3.0. That'll include 4K broadcasting, multiple HD subchannels and other video/data/audio services...

Bringing CVA Richmond thread ck from dormancy here.

re: Comcast & Comcast Sportsnet Mid-Atlantic HD on channel 846 in Midlothian/Chesterfield Comcast I guess.

Has anyone noticed that what's on screen is SD and not HD even though the info showing on my TiVo is 720p; the picture quality is definitely SD.

I compared side by side with other TV's in my house & what Comcast is showing for CSNMA on screen for 846 HD is the same as channel 4 SD.

Feedback?

UPDATE: looks like Comcast has been downgrading the HD signal even on 1080i feeds to 720P accross the board.
down to MPEG4-H.264 quality.

So essentially broadcasting the HD signal but barely @ 720p -still technically HD - but overly heavy compressed making the feed to most HDTV look SD for the most part. Like mine.

Switched to Directv now after being with PS Vue for 6 months and live about 3.5 miles from the main antenna farm. Had a Terk HDTVi antenna in closet hooked into our smartbox. UHF channels were rock solid but channel 12 was an issue. I finally tried a Clearstream 2V and placed it in the same spot and perfect. UHF channels are just as stable though have a lower signal number. 12.1-3 are now perfect. Just thought I would pass on that information for those who are still struggling with channel 12 OTA.

Just noticed your post. Wow! We have DIRECTV and CSNMA is doing 1080i. The ESPNs, FOX Sports nets and MLB do 720p and the others (Golf, Tennis, NBCSN, CBSSN, NHL...) do 1080i.

Sorry for my bad grammar in the prior post.
Was so flabbergasted & frustrated @ Comcast's action.

So my CSMA is now displaying properly in Chesterfield County @ 720p aka barely HD; not the 480 SD that was happening for about 2 weeks there.
But as a Comcast customer it is beyond insulting that they are compressing every channel except the locals to 720p.

If, I wasn't so worry about my lawn being digged up to bring FIOS fro mthe corner to my house, I would switch by now.

Send a message via AIM to Trip in VA
(Cross-posting in Roanoke, Richmond, and Charlottesville threads.)

Does anyone here know of someone who would do repair work on a rooftop antenna? My father in law, who lives on the Prince Edward-Charlotte County line, has an antenna that works very well for him, but in a recent storm, the stand-off holding the cable came off the mast and took the cable with it, so now he receives only WSET and WWCW. The roof itself is very steep and it's a metal roof, so it would be very dangerous to do without professional equipment.

I understand that a drive out to this area would likely be pricey since it's 1-2 hours away, but I doubt there's anyone closer than Lynchburg, Richmond, or Charlottesville, and I've not had any luck finding anyone to do it so far. My next step might be seeing if a roofing company could do something about it.
