Dcheney,

Not sure if it was due to storm or not, but still had the stuttering problem on the game. Watched this morning and no problems. Seems to be only on the hi -def stuff.

No word on this yet. My initial thought is that it will not be re-aired. I'll update you if I find out more.

Folks, I was running at top speed to keep up with the continuous coverage in News of the storm last night. We did leave the HD on the game and we were having some issues with the heavy rain taking dropping the signal levels down on several satellite dishes here. I will look into it before I leave tonight and make sure its stable. We did take some nasty power hits here as well and my microwave room were all the HD equipment is located flooded to about an inch but not high enough to get into any equipment. What a relief. Cant say that for folks in downtown coping with 10-15 ft of water. I will catch up to you guys later as I am about to drop. My day ended last night at 1am and started back at 8am so later.

hey darrell,

Sounds like a hell of a night. I thought it was so cool the game on one station and the news on the other. Please do not take my post as rant, just wanted to keep you updated on what i saw. I think the show at 9.00 is high def, will watch and report here on the dropouts, if any.

Now this is real odd.

I am watching "according to Jim" on 8-1 (supposed to be HD), it's in SD, switch to 13-1 (hampton road), it's in HD.

In Chinese they say"Something's Wong"

Darrell,

show at 9.00pm went off without a hitch. However, was having dropouts on the local news at 11.00.

We had some major problems last night during after a hard power hit which glitch several systems. We were picking up the pieces this morning. Is the ABC News One looking ok with you folks. Every since the storm on Monday its has been off the cable but I can get it off air. Not sure what is going on there.

I'm getting 8-2, 12-1, 12-2, and 12-3 in full screen, but 8-1 is now in 4:3. Is that in issue with my STB or is there a problem at 8-1 due to the storm?

A squirrel has been eating my tomatoes, so I took my AK-47 and shot him with an armor-piercing bullet. Unfortunately, it also went through my neighbor's car and his neighbors SUV before being stopped by a propane truck filling a tank. Most of the neighborhood is now gone, but that squirrel will no longer be eating my tomatoes.

The 4:3 you are seeing on 8-1 is because the program isn't in HD. It is the non-HD programming (4:3) with the "side-bars" attached to it and sent out as a 16:9 picture.

If you looks closely at 12-1, you will notice it actually isn't full screen during non-HD programming. It is slight less. They are doing a stretch at the station. 8-2, 12-2 and 12-3 are being sent out as SD 4:3 programs and your TV is stretching it full screen.

Many many problems with the transmitter at WRIC HD tonight. We are having a power control problem at this time. WE are working to find out where the issue is. It is currently online but it has been shutting down on us so bear please.

Sitting here watching taped coverage of the Republican convention on ABC News Now via Comcast Chesterfield ch 194....for the most part its ok....I am having some problems from time to time with visual and audio problems, the audio seems to be a bit behind the picture. I know you're having problems with the transmitter....I'm just trying to give you an idea of what we're seeing.

Looks like Darrell's all-niter paid off. I made several spot checks today and saw no glitches on video or audio via Comcast.

Is it happening now? Let me know. I have been working on the multiplexer on and off all week trying to straighten a problem with the 8-2. Let me know if it is still dropping out.

Getting audio dropouts this evening on 8.1 news broadcast after 11.30 p.m., but no big deal since video seems fine. The important thing is we don't need to hear Madden and Michaels on MNF anyway, just as long as the HD PQ is great; and we wouldn't even complain if 8.2 could be shut down about 9 pm every Mon. evening for 3 hrs. for us football addicts (and of course uncompressing and ramping up -- is that the right term? -- 8.1 using the freed up Mbps).

Anyone else get audio dropouts on WRIC* during the Skins game last night?

My first night to compare 29-1 and 8-1 during the game and I thought 8-1 had a better picture, but the 29-1 audio was far superior (clearer, cleaner, more detailed, whereas 8-1 was muffled). I would have watched the game on 8-1 because of the slightly better picture, but the dropouts were the clincher.

EDIT: *OTA

A squirrel has been eating my tomatoes, so I took my AK-47 and shot him with an armor-piercing bullet. Unfortunately, it also went through my neighbor's car and his neighbors SUV before being stopped by a propane truck filling a tank. Most of the neighborhood is now gone, but that squirrel will no longer be eating my tomatoes.

On Redskins game last night, 8-1 audio drop out was kinda bad on my TIVOHD, 10-1(NBC , hampton road) has no audio dropout but the PQ was blurred and softer, I agreed that I would rather turn the volume down and enjoy the better PQ on 8-1.
