Zoid, I'm not angry, just tryin' to pull some chains. Besides, I've given up on WAAY ever moving into the future. It's easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for WAAY to broadcast in HD.

It's a shame that Huntsville's HDTV enthusiasts couldn't pool resources and just buy WAAY. I would imagine the amount of money involved would be beyond our means.

Does anyone know if 54 is still waiting on their replacement box? That would explain the lateness of their switching over to HD. Anyone know? Anyone?...Beuller?...Beuller?

Still haven't heard any news from over at tennesseevalleyhd.net. Two days away from turkey day, so who knows.

Hopefully before that day I'll have my home theater room rearranged before then to squeeze more people in for football.

Just so everyone knows, I'm waiting patiently to see what happens. Considering my current field is IT, I know how impatient people can get, especially when you're waiting on a vital part to get things going again.

So just back, relax, and wait. Give the people time to get it up and going, it's the least we can do.

Mr Zoid.

PS- That does not apply to WAAY. They're just being lazy and isolating their HD viewers.

Our (WHDF) digital antenna is going up as I type this. Transmitter should be in any day now also.

Ok, here's a little more in-depth info on Fox-54.

The problem is with a piece of their equipment (not provided by Fox) that sets the PIDs for video and audio (which I believe is their statmuxer). Once the PIDs are set, the signal goes to the Fox splicer equipment. The Fox equipment doesn't like the PID assignment and/or does something to it, so when the signal comes out of it, the PID for the video is changed, hence no video.

The manufacturer of the equipment is going to do a firmware update on it to remedy the problem, but Fox54 is also having them add another channel to it so they can do dynamic PSIP, which is mandatory by the FCC.

Fox-54 is basically waiting on the manufacturer to come to their site and do the necessary upgrades, the ball's not in their court anymore. It's just a waiting game right now.

They are extremely optimistic that all issues will be resolved in time for the Superbowl (and Nascar starts 2 weeks after that to boot).

So, target date is the Superbowl and if we happen to get any playoff games in HD, that's a bonus.

BTW, we (WHDF) FINALLY made it on DirecTv a couple days ago (SD of course).

I've got a Dish Network 811 receiver (has a built-in HDTV tuner) and for the 1st week, WHIQ had a great HDTV picture. For the past couple of weeks, however, the TV screen flashes, without a picture, when I select that channel. What's goin' on? Is it the 811 receiver? Why does WHIQ digital show up as 24-01 *and* 24-02? Both selections cause the screen to flash, without a picture. I'm clueless.

They've been having problems with their PSIP generator regarding DirecTv. When they finally got it working with DirecTV, it screwed up DishNetwork and some OTA receivers. I believe they finally have it fixed now.

BTW, it shows up as DT24-1 and DT24-2 because that's their actual digital channel. -1 is HD and -2 is SD. Information in the PSIP tells your receiver that it's a 'virtual channel' 25-1, which is their analog channel.

It wasn't working for me as of last night. I have a built in HD tuner; I had been out of town, when I returned on 27 Nov I did not have picture or sound; although I did have PSIP info and a strong signal. Sent an email to APT, received the following yesterday:

"Thanks for writing. With the installation of new equipment at Network Operations, APT is experiencing problems. Engineers and technicians are communicating with the equipment manufacturers to resolve the problem as quickly as possible.

I apologize for the inconvenience and the interruption of service.

Let's keep this posting toward the top of the forum, please. I'ts getting hard to find it sometimes in all the postings and we need to keep it going, even if we just say "bump" (bump means that it will get put to the front every time it is posted on). I take it still no HD news on FOX 54.

I don't believe it was on. Hell, the schedule on TitanTv didn't list a single ballgame on Sunday for WHNT. I do know they aired the Steelers game in HD at 3:00.

I'm still not getting WHIQ with my Dish Network 811. "odinala" mentioned they were having problems, but I don't know if they are fixed yet. When I enter digital channel 24 on the STB menu, I get about 86% signal level. However, when I go to watch the newly entered channel, I get no video or sound, and on the next entry into "guide", that channel is deleted. I just don't know how to determine whether it is WHIQ's problems or the Dish 811. TIA

It's on their end, something is seriously wrong with their PSIP. Sometimes I can get video and sound, change the channel and change back to them, and it's gone. Sometimes I get the SD channel and sometimes the HD. Hopefully they'll have it worked out soon.
