3) I am have some break up on FOX.It goes away if i move STB!!

4) How about i get some credit for being the first for most things in south FL. After all, HDTV "tenor" should count. I was the first back along time ago!! I was the first to report PBS multicasting!!

5) How about supporting my posts? I will even accept a "bump".

Hardrock,

I literally had to drop everything to give you that status report!! I think i deserve thoose kisses! Btw. What in god's name is the FOX holding? I hope it is not AVS gifts for friendly Bob Ross!

To all others "viewers"(audio-visual dealers):

It shames me to say i recorded FOX programming last night in 480i no less.Lets see why:

1) PBS no program info. Also i believe they NOT on air either.Hehe!

2) CBS is low power kiddies.Quote: "it is better to have true 480p Alley than pixelated Raymond"(TM)

3) Well,i did not forget about ABC kiddies.Despite my complaints...i care.I watched Millionaire and Ed's south FL semi commercial free lie!!

Is this our WHDT-DT they are refering to? What do you think it means (if anything!)

Yes, Chris, that is indeed about WHDT, which had filed asking the FCC to require cable systems here to carry WHDT as an analog signal, even though they will be broadcasting in digital only. All WHDT has to do is supply the cable headend with a DTV receiver and antenna. The Commission initially made the decision in January. Perhaps, assuming that this story is current (May 5?) this is a report of some kind of reaffirmation of the FCC's decision. I believe a local cable company here had appealed it.

'Bra:

WPBT-DT only broadcasts from 5 to 11 pm until their official launch in July.

There has been lengthy discussion of WPLG-DT's audio problems on this very thread in which
I participated. Do a search yourself abnd stop saying I'm glossing over their problems when I'm not! Please try to be proactive and helpful instead of just complaining and acusing people of things they haven't done. PLEASE try to get your facts straight and think before you write.

To 'Bra and all who get a marginal signal from WFOR-DT:

w4guy informs me that they were off air to do additional feedline repairs. They're now back up and my DTC100 BER meter has risen from their usual low 70s up to the low 80s here, even with rain in the area. Check you BER meters and see if you see an improvement, too.

Hi, Alex, and welcome!

HDCP is a kind of copy protection scheme that would give members of the Motion Picture Association of America (Hollywood studios) the ability to do a technological end-run around home recording rights fair use laws. It would allow them to not only prohibit you from time shifting digital video content for personal use, it would also allow them to "down-rez" HDTV video to standard-definition whenever they feel like it. You can probably see why so many folks on the Forum are "agin' it!"

While Dave is technically correct, I believe that HDCP stands for "Heavy Duty Caca Pipi" Which is what we are going to be in if Mpaa has its way.

All the HDTVers are magically gone. What left is citizen viewer Rodmanbra and select broadcasters/audio visual dealers.

As for stress.I really enjoyed unpluging a DTC-100 wire and connecting it to panny combo for the mere pleasure of trying to record Price is right! A big dunut but by now my lizard skin is used to broadcasters hanky panky!! The rest of day was spent with chearful conversations with PANASONIC!!

But do not worry,i predict more stress this summer. Will WFOR offer HD repeats?? More importantly..they must stop theese "human" errors. It is my last chance to catch the shows!!!

What a wonderful experience last nite....to have a choice between 3 HD OTA Shows!!

OK, only between 10 and 11PM; but it was great to "HDsurf" for a bit. The shape of things to come.

I'm fairly new to this forum, so I'm sure this has probably been discussed before, but here goes:

When is WSVN gonna get off the suck-wagon and start broadcasting in real HD? All I can get is 480i from 7-1, but its digital ... and of course there's no info on their website about it ...at least I couldn't find it.

Dave:

"a local cable company"....hmmm. I wonder which one! Maybe i should ask Don Landis who avoided Bra's big 1000 bash!!

To all "viewers" and use the term very loose:

1) WFOR and WPBT are off the air!

2) I have NO heard a single comment on WPLG other than my own in months!! I believe 720p Franz was on last night!

3) As for that article....what digital station. they do not mention 55 or 59 in any way?? Plus i believe WHDT is still a model of....(well i better not say).

Hello and Welcome!

To reliably receive the four Miami DTV stations from Lake Worth you will need the largest outdoor antenna you can stand and you will probably benefit from an antenna preamp as well. I have good results with a Radio Shack VU-210 antenna and 15-1113C preamp.

By the way, WSVN-DT doesn't do HD and neither does the Fox network so don't expect the Fox Superbowl next year to be available in HD. We may expect WFLX-DT to be up this summer, anyway and you won't need a big antenna for them. Likewise the other West Palm Beach affiliates will all likely have their DTVs up within a year from now. Right now only a few Fox stations have the ability to even pass the few Fox shows that are in 16:9/480p but the equipment that the remaining stations need to do this is reportedly going to begin shipping this summer.

Back to the Miami stations, CBS has stated its intention to increase its HD sports programming and WFOR-DT is on the air now, albeit at low power (you should still be able to get them here with a big antenna.) They should be up to full power by perhaps September.

While others are talking about copy protection( and not owning HD recorders)...i will provide these facts:

1) Congrats to Orlando w(for) having 6 stations on the air!

2) PBS is off to a "flying" start. No program guide and offending wbjr!

3) The "other" new station has yet to impress. So far the lowlights are:

a) Still no tech support...so far

b) low power= more stress for all!

c) Already making mistakes. Hardrock reports of missing HDTV and ofcoarse being off the air from time to time

4) The only postive so far.WFOR is broadcast 4/3 upconverts correctly. That seem not to be a big deal but in the miserable Maimi market it is the only positive thing to say!

I had the same problem too on DTC100. It seems to happen quite often on WSVN, have to turn tuner off\\on to pull in audio. This problem only happens with WSVN.

Wfor,

Yes, i would like to rephrase.

a) Definately no support from you or Panasonic so far. So far being the key words!

b) Low power is a problem.

c) Your station has already broadcast some HDTV prime as upconverts.

d) As for "d",i was being very nice and civil!

e) I forgot to mention,i did not bother to record PiR today! Not in the mood...

f) Ok...maybe a should be thankful you have a program guide available!!

Dennis,

I can not ignore posts that incorrectly state WFOR staff has made mistakes with High Definition Broadcasts.

Point of fact:

WFOR-DT was not off the air due to a mistake on Wednesday May 23.
That was a scheduled event. It is difficult to replace a transmission line connector with 12,000 Watts on it. Turning the transmitter off made the job much easier.

On Monday, May 21, WFOR did NOT upconvert network program material during prime time. (I checked the log to verify this)
It is NOT POSSIBLE for WFOR to air 480 I. Period.

---LOW POWER Let's address the issue.

WFOR-DT is not a Low power station
LP stations are limited to a transmitter output power of between 100 and 1000 watts.
WFOR-DT has an effective radiated power of 71,000 watts!
Will our power increase to 1MegWatt in September?YES. Are we _lower_ than that now? Yes.

Dennis, your home is outside of the Miami designated market area (DMA)
Viewers beyond the DMA are welcome to watch WFOR-DT programming.
However, there are legal issues tied to assisting viewers outside of the DMA.

Assistance:

How many other stations have representatives on this forum?
Have you followed some of the advice I have given you in the past?

You indicate that your signal readings fluctuate.
Do you really believe WFOR-DT's output power is constantly changing?

I can not see your set up, but here are some guesses on my part:
You are using a less than ideal antenna system.
There is something obstructing your signal path.
One of your receivers is radiating spurious signals.
At least one of your receivers has a sensitivity problem.

1) Who is Dennis?

2) I am Rodmanbra not Rod Stewart or Martha S!

3) The term "BRA" is actually not my invention. It is the pure genuis of the one and only Dave 480i McRoy! No grudge their. It is easier to spell. Hehe!

I will never take WFOR employees for lunch. The best i will offer is a 29 cent McD wedsday special for me while you bring a special container of sauerkraut for you.HEHE! Kidding aside(or am I):

What is the "deal" with DMA? I wish it was direct memmory access. ABC or FOX never sunk to that sinster level. Yes, I am in Palm beach county just like Dave!!Here are some of your low lights:

1) Bringing up "legal" issues. Either be very specific on which law or keep it in the closet where it belongs!

2) Being the first to state...Palm Beach county does NOT count.

3) No i will never be on your Christmas list. You can easily ignore Rodmanbra but should you ignore Panasonic??

Forget about Rodmanbra,Dave or even WFOR.The bigger picture is PANASONIC.

1) Did you know that panasonic is picking up the tab for your "mistakes"???

2) Panasonic is unbelievably offering to "fix" pana STBs out of warrenty at NO cost to BRA. Shocking but true! Even more considering i had very poor service from Panasonic professional division.

3) Fact, i am recieveing with both panny combos PBS with no problems at all!! CBS owes panasonic(hehe) a very small certified check for all Bra's expenses!!

4) Ofcoarse, you cost PANASONIC $$$$ for being 1 1/2 years late. My loss of programming aside!!

5) Ofcoarse, lets not forget WFOR employees telling Bra and others to upgrade PANASONIC STBs to bigger and greater things such as 3rd generation recievers. Telling ANY viewer to abandon Panasonic product for another manufacturer is unacceptable!

PS. All this and all future BS could be avoided. That is your choice NOT mine. You decided to call me Dennis the Menace or Dennis Rodman. That is pressure on me. Now the pressure is on you.
