Yes. The timing was right for it to have been the west coast JAG network feed. It was on the DT channel only. The analog channel had the news. Strange.

Hi

I am 1/2 mile south of griffin rd and 1/2 mile east of 441 in Hollywood and only get a 28 signal on WFOR. My tv will not show any picture at this level. When will WFOR increase signal strength? I get 88+ signal on all other local channels. Also, why do many shows on 7 and 10 digital look so bad?

I have an RCA P61300 . it has the HD decoder (?) built in, so no STB. I live near Sample Rd and US 1, and I cannot receive any digital signal. I am using a small radio shack UHF antenna connected to the Ant B input, but after a scan, only analog signals. I don't want to go through the expense of an outdoor antenna if it's not going to help. Can anybody help!!

Try another antenna. UHF is very directional, and you have to point it almost exactly in the right direction.
It also takes time for the tuner to lock on, so you can't just move it fast and see a pix pop up.
Go out an buy a indoor VHF and UHF antenna (I used a RCA amplified one that I got in K-mart).
Channels 8 & 9 are VHF with good strong signals, and will translate to 7-1 and 10-1 DT. Not HD, but will check out your digital section of your tuner.
Only HD (some of the time) channels down here are 18 UHF which translates to 2-1 and 22 ==> to 4-1 (best in prime time).
Hardrock will keep us informed when another DT channels comes on the air.

Bernie,

You should be able to receive WFOR's signal regardless of the fact that they are not yet at full power.

Hardrock,

I have the RCA MM36110 connected to the DTC-100 via vga cable and am using Terk 55 antenna mounted about 25 feet up under roof overhang. Signal is 28. Screen is blacked out on WFOR with weak signal message.

Bernie,

You have indicated that shows on 7 and 10 digital look bad.

I assume when you refer to channels 7 and 10 digital, you mean channels 8 and 9 respectively.

Have you chosen the "UHF/VHF Antenna" "Signal Type" as indicated on the top of page 31 in your Owners' Manual? Your manual indicates that "Signal Type" does not appear in the "Channel menu" if you have set up the "GUIDE Plus+ System".

Have you set the "SAT/CABLE CHANNEL" to (S)VGA2 as indicated on the bottom of Page 42 in the RCA MM36110 Owner's Manual ?

Channel 8 and 9 are VHF. Channel 22 is UHF. A New York Times article described how it was necessary to carefully aim the antenna to receive 8-VSB service. The article reported that one broadcaster viewing the demonstration stated that "You have to work to find a signal" with the 8-VSB system.

I repositioned my Terk TV42 antenna with internal amplifier which is mounted on my chimney at a height of about 20 feet; and, the signal I now receive from WFOR-DT averages about 85 percent - which equates to a gain of 27 percent (85 minus 67 = 18 units) (18 divided by 67 = 27 percent gain). I'm sure that I can further improve my reception by swapping the standard coaxial cable I am using with a high quality RG-6 cable.

You may also want to try WPBT's Channel 18 sometime after 5 PM when they begin broadcasting everyday. WPBT has a strong stable signal and their transmitter is located on the same antenna farm as WFOR.

If all else fails, try another antenna.

Hardrock,

Thanks for all the advice. Channels 2,7, and 10 come is as 18,8, and 9. 2 and 10 always looks great in HD. 7 and 10 in digital are so-so. Antenna info screen shows 4 as 22 with strength of 28 and no picture.

You stated:

>Have you chosen the "UHF/VHF Antenna" "Signal Type" as >indicated on the top of page 31 in your Owners' Manual? >Your manual indicates that "Signal Type" does not appear >in the "Channel menu" if you have set up the "GUIDE Plus+ >System".

I did set up Guide Plus. I can't figure out how to eliminate it. Will unplugging set for a couple of hours do the trick? I do not have Signal Type option on menu. Will having this option affect performance since I already get great picture when HD is broadcast on 2 and 10?

SAT/CABLE CHANNEL is set to (S)VGA2. If I do not set it this way digital channels are listed as 2-1,4-1,7-1 and 10-1. Does this affect performance?

My amplified Terk antenna is under roof overhang about 25 feet up. Repositioning is the only thing I did not try. But I do get 88+ on 18, 8 and 9 so I am reluctant to do that. Might have to wait til September for WFOR.

Their towers appear to be right next to each other, according to www.100000watts.com .

Interesting to note that WSVN-DT is currently operating at 14.4 kw but has a Construction Permit to go to 145 kw (a typo? www.fcc.gov says "145. kw" [another typo?])

WPLG-DT is currently at 15.8 kw and has a CP to go up to 30 kw.

I do NOT understand why ABC can not do 1 series in HDTV right. I do understand that the a/v dealers (aka viewers) do not care...

As for WFOR, they are conserving energy at night. There was no signal at 3 am!

thanks, bill, but no luck. This is my dilemma. i bought a Radio Shack antenna. i placed it in my attic, and connected it to my tv. all 4 channels ( 8-1, 9-1, 18-1, and 22-3)came in great . i then hung the antenna from the rafters, and promptly lost all signal on 9-1. i believe that wsvn and wplg are on the same tower, or very close. looking at other sites, i see that wplg puts out a stronger signal than wsvn. why, then, can i not receive WPLG at all?

i am very new to this, so forgive if my questions seem dumb.

Is WFOR broadcasting full power yet? If not, when will they start? I can't seem to get this station using my existing antenna which works fine for the other digital channels. Thanks.

Hi,

WFOR-DT is currently broadcasting with 71 kw ERP. They should be at full power (nearly 1,000 kw) in September.
