1) WHDT is 59

2) WHDT does not do 480i multicasting but you never know!

3) Their website is unchanged!

4) Who other than a angry mob of chipmunks will revieve a low power WHDT???

Once again FREE advertising for WHDT. Gunther is sneaky and smart!!

I now show Channels 69-01, 69-02, 69-03, 69-04, 69-05, 69-06, 69-07, 69-08, 69-09, 69-10, 69-11, 69-12, 69-13 and 69-14 on my Dish 6000 receiver guide. Still no signal, picture or sound.

Does anyone else with a Dish 6000 have these channels?

Hardrock,

Yes, it did a scan on the 6000 and panny51 but no life of any of those signal 59 and 69. only those 4 channels which already exist.

One question is the 6000 has better reception than the panny51, but i did a comparision the panny51 tune in the existing channels faster than the 6000.

As of this morning, WHDT's website HAS changed. The header now says "Channel 59" instead of "Channel 55", which was their old analog assignment and the site now states that they are "...on the air..." without any longer having any qualifying language regarding some future debut date.

I'll attempt to tune them in later today.

See www.whdt.net .

I experienced alot of weirdness last night at about 11 PM. All of the local OTA stations kept changing back and forth on my guide between the remapped channel and the broadcast channel (i.e. 7 to 8-01, 10 to 9-01, 2 to 18-01, and 4 to 22-01).

WFOR's signal is gone as of this morning. I wonder if this has anything to do with their upgrade to full power?

Hi, hardrock. Last we heard from them, WFOR-DT wasn't expecting to go to full power until September.

As I suspected, WFOR's tower crew is working near the DTV antenna. WFOR needs to power down the DTV transmitter during the day for the safety of the crew.

Dave,

I am still receiving a strong signal on Channels 99-01, 99-02, 99-03, 99-04, 99-05, 99-06, 99-07, 99-08 and 99-09. The channels only show up if I select Cable, HRC or IRC under the HDTV setup on my Dish 6000 receiver.

Can you check your spectrum analyser for this signal?

The signal is definitely OTA; but, only god knows where it's coming from.

hardrock,

Can you ask the manufacturer of your STB what "channel 99" is in their equipment? What part of the spectrum does it occupy? What's it for? Describe what you're observing to them.

I recall some RCA TV sets that allow the user to access composite and S-Video sources by "tuning" channel 90, channel 91, etc. In actuality they were just switching from the tuner in the set to video inputs disguised as "virtual channels."

I was getting WFOR-DT with occasional dropouts once again last night from 6 p. m. on...but this time with no sound on Zenith and RCA receivers until sometime between 7 and 8. CSI looked awesome as always. DTC100 BER was in the upper 50s most of the time which is lower than normal.

I am at the point of making a decision to buy the STB or not. It depends heavily on the amount and quality of HD programming that I can receive at Lake Worth. Do we get regular PBS HD programs? Also does any one have any idea about the upcoming NFL season? Will there be games on HD? I know Fox will not do it. But what about Monday night and CBS games??

thanks for the response

Hi, Lakeworthfan,

Your ability to receive DTV signals from Miami will depend heavily on you location, antenna height and the kind of antenna. West Palm Beach DTV starting next year (May 1 or maybe a little sooner) should be a piece of cake, though.

CBS plans some football in HD but I am unaware of specifics. NCAA football is rumored but unsustantiated as yet.

Last I heard ABC said "No" to MNF in HD this year. They do plan to increase their primetime HD content this Fall though.

Fox is supposedly going to dramatically increase their 480p widescreen content in primetime this Fall, too, but as yet WSVN-DT only does 480i 4:3. Look for the 480p widescreen stuff when WFLX-DT gets on the air. Their target date shifts due to delays in making Palm Beach County's zoning folks satisfied over transmitter building modifications to accomodate their new DTV transmitter.

Yes, I'm getting regular PBS programming from WPBT-DT and they carry PBS-HD programming, too, but PBS-HD only happens on several shows per month thus far. The 480i SD widescreen shows on PBS look pretty good though and are shown much more frequently. "hardrock" does a nice service by frequently posting alerts on upcoming PBS-HD and PBS-SD widescreen shows coming up on the "PBS South Florida..." thread.

Good article! I need either a map to their HQ or a funny cartoon or else....

Or else i ask you why two other residents from the big Metro monolith of Coral Springs do not recieve CBS?

My thoeries since no facts are available.

1) Some street lights of University drive are emitting a high frequency EMI which affects only chipmunks and all HDTV STBS other than the model 6000.

2) Steve investigates and uncovers numerous illegal basements in Coral Springs. It is also discovered that many bootleg rabbit ears are being mass produced and sold black market as overpriced HDTV antenna's!!

3) local Skyscrapers creating 8VSB havoc. the worst offender the single story Coral Springs mall!!

HEHE. NOW BACK TO WATCHING JAY LENO ON DVHS TAPE!! How need letterman when i CAN lead with my friendly chin!

Yes, thanks from me too!
Now I know why NBC isn't transmitting.
The blame (as of today) is that the FCC hasn't approved plans for the antenna.

Now, the FCC is made up of divisions, and only some people work the HD area. Since I used to work in a government type of job for a while, I know that it appears that many people are in charge. But I also know that only a few do any work.
And like the FAA, where maybe 1 or a few are really doing the work that has been assigned, they are overworked and under budget. I am not saying that there are people sitting around, I am saying that very few are assigned the tasks that we are looking for.
For the FCC, I believe that there may be only a very few persons involved in making decesions for antenna licenses.
They are probably in charge of the entire country, so there is overworked. Then if and when they do make a decesion, there is a half of dozen people that have to approve it!
So a simple job that would take a day, or maybe a week, can take months (and years).

So once NBC gets the approval, then I assume they will just start to work on the HD antenna.
And, of course they will have to ask for an extension, because nothing can be done until the FCC makes a decision.

I'll even go so far as to predict that WPTV-DT (NBC-affiliate) West Palm Beach, FL will sign-on channel 55 before WTVJ-DT gets on the air. WTVJ's situation is rather complicated. As stated in the Miami Herald article they want to get away from their current transmitter site because it has always been too far south to get good coverage in north Broward. (The reason it's where it is is so that they an protect Channel 6 in Orlando from interference.) Their DTV asignment is channel 30. To locate their DTV on WFOR's tower they might interfere with WFLX-TV (analog) on channel 29 in West Palm Beach, so they're asking to be reassigned to channel 31.

Some Newspaper or any other type of news media should do an article on the efficiency of the FCC with respect to the Digital and HDTV conversions.

Gee, would this threat by NBC move their rumps?

Dave's crystal ball in full throotle again. Now it is my turn.

1) I would like to thank WPEC for being polite. No replies from CBS HQ ever or WFOR!!

2) My waiver request was denied with no consideration or regard for human life.

3) My reply to WPEC is save the drama for your mama. I actually get dishnetwork distant. I too can flex a mussle from time to time!

4) Dave...my current readings are WFOR 0 WHDT -13 but on + side 88 for PBS and 80 for ABC+FOX. What are your findings? Remember you are under AVS honor code system?

5) Yes, i do value and trust your input. For everything except CBS. Hehe!

6) Dave...confession is good for the sole. It is day #10 of my misery.

But FOX does not do HD !
Do they? and I miss it?
All they do is transmit 480i in digital in 4:3.
But, they do have some HD equipment.
They complain about money, but not to investment.
