If I remember correctly, WFLD is ready to go, they're just waiting for the HD feed from the network to be turned on.

As for WPWR, the dishes are in place, but they're still waiting for some additional equipment to be delivered.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

To All:

The HD Splicer is on-line and operational at WFLD as of August 29th, so when FOX Network sends out a true HD/720P signal, it will pass through with Dolby 5.1 audio if the show contains 5.1 audio.

I don't know which network programming is in true 720P with 5.1 audio and which is still being upconverted. There could be upconverted video with 5.1 audio, native 720P with 2/0 audio, native 720P with 5.1 audio. All dependent on the program's producer.

The WPWR STL dish is still a few weeks away along with some HD wiring infrastructure to go in at the studio to pass the UPN Network feed thru to the transmitter.

Thanks Bob. What time did the splicer go online on Sunday? I was looking for the bug in the 16:9 area on sunday during primetime shows, but I didn't notice it until Monday primetime.

Oooo... Dolby Digital during Big Momma's House. Unfortunately there seems to be a crackling noise coming from the left rear surround speaker.

Flicks? Here's my collection. And I've seen a lot, too.

Well, at least there will be more UPN-HD to watch when WPWR-DT finally does go HD. I guess it's a race to see if they get the STL dish up before the October 8th premiere of Enterprise.

To All:

Dish is scheduled to be put up on Thursday 9/9/04, weather & WIND permitting. Then we'll complete the HD wiring to get the HD network signals out to you.

To try and jump start this -

I show that Chicago has 6 of the 7 nets in HD & DD 5.1 (BTW - it's the only market with 6) - but UPN isn't even in HD - is this correct, and if so, what's up with your UPN affiliate?

WPWR-DT (our UPN affiliate) is currently upconverting everything to 1080i. A previous post noted that the satellite link was supposed to be installed today, and HD programming is supposed to go active by the end of the month.

As for 5.1, I asked Bob the same question on the chicagoavforum.com board. As soon as I get a response I'll post it here (if Bob doesn't beat me to it).

Hello Chicagoan's!

I need to ask a favor. I'm in CA, but need to find an OTA installer for my father-in-law who lives in Elk Grove Village (just west of O'Hare).

Any recommendations?

That's the plan. The splicer's all set up and everything. It's not everyday you get a new HD channel.

Yessirree! Fox starts true HD broadcasting tomorrow. So this year it will be crystal clear as to how good, or bad, the Bears really are.

They will. Plus, unlike Radio Shack for example, they have employees whose job depends on the quality of their work rather than independent contractors who may vary from good to terrible. On the minus side, they aren't cheap and they may not ground the mast and coax unless pushed. That's a common failing at least around here.

The best I have seen for OTA is Barrett's Antenna Service. They used to be part of Barrett's Audio Video but now they are a seperate entity. They are very good and do only RF work.

I know it sounds great and looks great.....but can we communicate with it? If not it is useless:)

I picked up a Silver Sensor this weekend to go along with my 3150a and was AMAZED at the quality of the image. I even enjoyed watching the Bears losing, the image was enough to distract me from the quality of play.

I am located 9 miles west of the loop and the SS pulls in all the channels fine except CBS. I tried to manually enter the channel(2.1) and got nothing. Is the CBS signal weak?

Also where is that tower located. Antennaweb.org tells me that the compass direction is the same as WYCC-DT which I am pulling in fine. Are these both located on the same tower? (Hancock?)

Thanks for your help.
