Have you tried extending the VHF poles on the antenna? You could delete and re-scan WINK-DT.

I'm watching the ABC HD broadcast of USA vs Italy in the World Cup and keep losing the center channel sound. I've checked my equipment and believe it is the broadcast. Anybody else having this issue?

Peace,

WBBH-DT with another excellent HD broadcast of the NHL Stanley Cup Finals.
Kudos to WZVN-DT as well for airing the World Cup in HD with no local flaws!

...and congratulations to WFTX for screwing up today's NASCAR broadcast.

Seriously, was that a local issue or national issue? When I tried to watch it, the broadcast was SD and in some weird form of black and white. Maybe it was throwback day.

I believe you'll want to use 9.6 for WINK, there's nothing on 9.1.

Could it be because WINKTV management doesn't give a damn about its OTA HD viewers?

FLBoy,

I have sent an email to both WINK and DirectTV about this and will let everyone know if I hear back, but my hunch is since the Dishnetwork people have the guide data, it ain't WINK, it's DirectTV. Just a hunch and I'm no fan of WINK.

Peace,

Well, I heard back from DirectTV and got an idiotic canned response about HD locals. They didn't even read my email.

I also sent an email to DirecTV and got the same canned response. I responed with another email and asked that they at least read my email this time. The following is their response:

"Thanks for writing. I'm sorry that your channel guide is not being updated for your local HD channel CBS. I have forwarded your comments on to our programming management to further investigate the issue. In the meantime, you can call our technical support center and discuss the problem with one of our technical representatives. To reach them, just call 1-800-531-5000 and select the option for technical assistance.

Thanks again for writing and I hope we're able to fix the problem quickly.

Sincerely,

Mindy

Well, I got a reply to my reply:

Quote:

Thanks for writing back, I apologize for the confusion. The information displayed in our onscreen program guide is provided by the station broadcasting the feed. However, if the guide information is being sent but it is not displayed, then you may need to do some troubleshooting on your system. Since it's difficult to troubleshoot technical issues by email, please call our technical support center and discuss the problem with one of our technical representatives. To reach them, just call 1-800-531-5000 and select the option for technical assistance.

Thanks again for writing and I hope we're able to fix the problem quickly.

bhalbert, I think I like the response you got better.

Peace,

Since WINK-DT went on the air, this thread has dried up. Good to see that everything in Ft Myers is OK. Lewis

I'm curious come football season if someone can compare WINK HD OTA PQ with the Comcast cable feed of WINK. I remember being down there last winter watching the Steelers playoff game on Comcast and thinking there was way more macroblocking than usual for a CBS HD NFL game. Definitely some bandwidth starvation going on there. Of course Comcast blamed it on WINK and WINK blamed it on the national feed from CBS. But now that you guys can get WINK HD OTA, I'd like to know if WINK is providing a full bandwidth HD picture both OTA and through Comcast.

I guess I need another Antenna...

Speaking of Saturday baseball on Fox, what is that stuff they're broadcasting? It's not HD, but some sort of upconverted SD.

They seem to have enough equipment to show several NFL games in HD each Sunday during the season, but their MLB has been disappointing.

DrOrb

It's widescreen SD, and it's been speculated that it's a composite video upconvert. It looks terrible when they show shots of the outfield and all the little people in the stands "sparkle" in red/green/blue interlaced crappiness.

The theory is Fox is losing money on their MLB contract and ratings are not high enough to do an HD production every Saturday.

Here's the main thread for the discussion:

Baseball is a fabulous sport to watch...

...if you're in the stadium.

I just can't watch it on TV. Just doesn't translate well for me.

FOX's coverage of the All Star Game will be in 720p HD though. That is on Tuesday Night on FOX.

Tonight is ESPN's coverage of the Home Run Derby...also in HD.

GO MIGGY AND UGGLA!

BTW, anyone with Comcast or DirecTV can get the Marlins and Devil Rays in HD via FSN Florida HD.

Regarding the HD Rays' and Marlins' broadcasts on D* - you will need the H10 (mpeg4 capable) receiver and the new 5 lnb dish.

I heard there are roughly 3 new channels coming to Comcast HD in the next month. Has anyone heard what these might be? I have Comcast in Naples.

Thanks

RDJR - are you sure about that? It is my understanding that there are occassions where those games pop up on channel 95 in HD. You don't need an mpeg4 receiver to get channel 95.

Davo - you are correct when they pop up on 95 they are in mpeg2. However, the D* press release indicates that to receive the RSN baseball broadcasts in HD one will need the H10. Interestingly enough I just looked ahead on the guide for channel 95 and there are no games listed in HD for Thursday and Friday after the all-star break.
