The preseason games that they are referring to are on WUPL-UPN 54 New Orleans...not UPN itself but WUPL New Orleans. I'm not sure who will carry them in other parts of the state. With respect to 44.1, it is always HD. The programming is not necessarily in HD. 44.2 is just digital.

CBS = WAFB-9 is transmitting or should I say whispering on RF 46. You won't get it in Opelousas.

http://www.fcc.gov/fcc-bin/FMTV-serv...=DT657592.html

ABC = WBRZ-2 is transmitting on RF 13 with a rather nice signal.

Very weird.... I noticed a QAM channel in the clear on channel 121's QAM256 carrier in the BR area. It's WDSU??? Weird... it comes across as 1920X1080i at 14 megabit. But the signal of the 121 carrier in my area is apparently not tweaked for usage as it jumps from 4% to 35% to 75% and back and the channels is unwatchable but you can easily tell it is WDSU.

I'm sure this channel will be removed from the ITC list as soon as Cox sees this but it doesn't bother me as I already have my networks in HD plus this one isn't watchable anyways. I just thought it was interesting.

I'm glad I wasn't the only one who saw that. I thought I was crazy seeing WDSU.

It's an HD signal but the few times I tuned to it there was only SD content showing. Plus it pixelates every 2-3 seconds.

I'm watching the Hall of Fame game and am unimpressed with NBCs high def. The lower third score is blurry, only 2 cameras seem to be high def. Many of their other cameras are not and edges really get blurry. I'm watching an OTA broadcast here in Baton Rouge. Is it our local affiliate or the national broadcast. Anyone else watching?

Hope they improve during the season.

Editted to add: Well most of the problem seems to be ghosting on my new plasma screen. Watched a little bit on a high def CRT and didn't have some of the problems. It still wasn't great high def.

I'm watching the game on KPRC in Houston, no where close to Fox's quality...I watched the Saints on WGMB & KADN while living in Lafayette post Katrina and both were STUNNING. As usual, NBC sucks.

Nbc uses the 1080i format and sports are the biggest weakness of 1080i. Fox chose the 720p which is far superior for fast action video. That is why most everyone will agree that FOX's HD is much Better than NBC's. On a generic drama or other show, the difference in quality is small, but when you go to fast action like a fb game, the difference becomes very clear.

comparing respective frame rates (1080i/29.97) and (720p/59.94) it's not hard to see why 720p is the best HD format. just my opinion...

I see the difference. I watched much of the preseason game last night on Fox. It was great. I guess the entire problem was NBC's broadcast.

the problem is definitely with nbc. cbs 1080i looks very good. nbc looked good on most of the shots but when they did a quick flash it looked bad, especially when they would zoom in on a player running or something. the field shot looked good. I will watch the cbs game tonight and make sure I dont see anything similiar.

I need to replace the antenna, rotor and coax on a 50'-60' tower at my home near the Baton Rouge area (70762). The tower doesn't tilt and I'm not climbing to the top.

Does anyone have any recommendations on a good local installer?

Thanks!

I wish I could get KLFY here! All of the HD here in BR is great except for our wonderful CBS affilliate. 1080i at 10-11mbps w/ 2.0 audio is nasty! And don't get me started on the OTA signal.

WVLA-DT's Sunday night OTA Pre-Season NFL game exhibited the poor video quality during quick camera pans and fast motion that has been discussed throughout AVS over the past week or so. It appears that it may be a local problem and some local affiliates have resolved it. Others haven't. A few posts here indicate that the problem is related to the setup of an encoder. In particular, one manufactured by Harris. If WVLA-DT has a Harris encoder, I would ask that you consider the possiblity that it is at least part of the problem.

WVLA, WGMB and WBRL use Tandberg encoders. While I am not saying there isn't a problem, I can say that while viewing the HD/SDI output of the NBC HD IRD directly during the last Olympics there was fast action macroblocking and pixelation. I will try to make the time to set up a side by side comparison of the pre-sync HD/SDI and ASI streams during a sporting event to verify the encoder performance.

Hello everyone-
I have been reading through this thread and I am confused as to how exactly you use a QAM. I am about to purchase a Panny TH-50PX60U and I have Cox basic cable (16 channels or whatever) and Directv with HD.

Does the TV I am getting have a QAM or do I need to buy one of those to get the local HD channels?

DirecTV with HD?? The HD in DirecTV is actually spelled HDLite.

If you want to pick up the ITC QAM locals instead of OTA, then I'd suggest getting a TV that has the DCR (Digital Cable Ready) logo on the front. You can guarantee that if it has a cable card slot on the back then it is DCR and will pick up the QAM locals on your basic cable sub. Another huge recommendation I always tell people is buy a set that has 2 RF inputs (F Connectors). One for cable tunning and one for OTA tunning. That way you can switch back and forth with the remote if you ever decide to go OTA and QAM.

Looks like Cox made some changes this morning (Monday) on 2-2 and 2-3. They were on my channel list but until today there was nothing to see. Now you can receive WBRZ's news and weather that was only on my OTA antenna.

That being said, does anyone have any idea why I'm getting WBRZ and WVLA both on the same channel (2-1) on basic cable? This started about a month ago. Beforehand, WVLA was on 33-1. I've tried editing WVLA out of the channel list but the tv puts it right back in when I try to get WBRZ (I'm hooked on Grey's Anatomy)

Here's a screenshot of my tv's cable channel list at this link:

http://forums.roadfly.com/test/7943451-2.html

Calling Cox about it was like talking to Dell tech support in India They told me I cannot receive local HD channels on basic even though I do, as most people here also do.

Yes, I scanned OTA a number of times last night and got nothing on WVLA-DT (NBC) and WGMB-DT (Fox). I was beginning to think it had to do with my recent installation of cooling fans in my rack and OTA rcvr. No changes to my antenna direction.

BTW, WAFB-DT (CBS) seems to be very stable for me as of a couple of weeks ago. Anyone know if they boosted power?

WVLA and WGMB HDs are down as of early 8/22, due to a failure in the radio system that feeds the signal to the transmitters. I expect a replacement system today and they should be back on-air today.

Hello all. I'm new to the site and have a question. I just got a Samsung lcd hdtv and plugged my rabbit ears in and I'm getting fox, nbc,wb and pbs. I'm not getting abc or cbs. My guess is my rabbit ears. I have a dial that I have to turn to change from uhf to vhf. Do they sell them where you plug it in and recieve both? Aany help would be appreciated. I'm only interested in indoor antennaes (maybe thats the problem) Thanks.

Where are you located? Is it possible for a external antenna?

ABC-DT is on RF 13 which is technically VHF, but most of the time UHF antennas work well for this channel. CBS-DT is transmitting at a very low power so good luck on this one!

I'm in Walker. I bought a amplified antenna from Lowes, so I'll see how that goes. Thanks for the feedback.
