WBTR 41 airs most of This TV's programming. Sometimes, it's on WBRZ. I go to one of the churches whose services are on WBTR (The Church in St. Amant).

Hello Baton Rouge.

Just wanted to introduce myself to the group. I'm a recent "cord cutter." I left DirecTV a few years ago and just got rid of U-Verse. Now I am solely OTA using an RCA ANT751 in my attic (15' AGL @ 270 degrees) - well, I'm not totally OTA, I still use Hulu, Netflix, and Amazon.

I'm in the Shenandoah area and am getting good signal on the locals. I will post a full channel list when I get home so I can compare. Don't want to miss out on anything I should be getting.

I am anxiously awaiting the updated "Simple.TV" OTA DVR coming later this year since I'm having to give up my U-Verse whole-home DVR. Hopefully, Simple.TV will have their Android app ready by later this year so I can watch my TV on my phone.

Other things about my TV habits...I watch the Saints (almost) religiously and getting FOX44 on a 100% signal was a must before I would agree to go OTA. Now I'm only out of luck when there's a non-Sunday game on NFL Network.

Overall, I saved about $100 a month by dropping my 'cable TV' and am waiting to see how my life changes going forward.

I realize this thread is OTA but there is no local cable thread so I'm hoping at least some of you have cable access and know something about this: Does anyone have any idea WTF Cox has done to the local network affiliate digital and HDTV channels? Not a single TV nor device in the house can receive them any longer, you can only get them with the STB! All we can get now are the worthless useless "Cox promo" channels and a useless PBS/LPB sub-channel! No more ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, (main) LPB, etc. On some TV's these are ch's 703, 705, 706, etc., but on my Magnavox DVR they are decimal #'s like 94.1, 100.5, 117.1, etc. Nothing but a blank black screen. (I don't know if it's related but we also can't watch anything on Video-On-Demand, channel 1, that's with a STB of course. There is also numerous STB-required premium cable channels that now show "Temporarily Off-Air").

Thanks.

EDIT: I've been doing some searches and found this: http://www.wafb9.com/story/23515007/cox-cable-changes-to-hdtv-channels-set-to-take-effect . How "nice" of them to let their customers know about this! rolleyes.gif So we have to take about ~an hour and do a rescan to receive them again. But that doesn't explain the issue with VoD. I'm leaving this post here in the event others may be wondering.

God Bless,
-Clint

No, it's down for maintenance. They sent notice that, "...WGMB may experience downtime beginning Monday morning around 9am through Thursday."

I am fixing to cut the cord.  I live in Baton Rouge - the Springlake subdivision off of Bluebonnet -between Nicholson and Burbank.  Any suggestions on an HD Antenna?  I rent the home so I cannot mount anything to the outside of the house.  Will an indoor antenna work for my location?  Attic mount?

Suggestion please!  I can't wait.

I am still successfully receiving channel 9 (and its subs) orienting my antenna around 250 degrees back toward their tower location, per http://antennweb.com. I am using a directional in-attic installation at my house in Shenandoah.

However, I stopped receiving all Channel 2 (WBRZ) channels around 6 months ago and just now noticed. I have contacted their operations group but they say nothing has changed.

It's certainly odd that these channels seem to just disappear and then come back later.

Exactly, as of yesterday i am now again receiving channels 2 and 9 along with the other stations. Weird how they disappear and then come back. PS i emailed and facebooked WAFB about their signal but i never got a response. You would think they would want people to watch their station, and know if there was a problem.

The Supreme Court is ready to rule on the Aereo case this week. That ruling will almost certainly affect the over-the-air availability of many stations. Many stations (including the nationwide FOX, CBS, and Univision) have threatened to stop broadcasting over the air if Aereo wins their case to bring time & place-shifted OTA broadcasts to internet-connected devices.

From: CNN Money
Quote:
"A plaintiffs' [broadcast companies] win in this case will ensure the continued availability of this programming to the viewing public," the broadcasters' main Washington lobbying group said when the suits were filed. (Was the group foreshadowing what CBS, Fox, and Univision warned in 2013 -- that their stations might leave the public airwaves if Aereo wins?)

I'll check WBRZ (2) when I get home this evening and post on whether I can receive it again.

Moving into a apartment possibly , in the Denham Springs area by Bass Pro. Looking to receive OTA. Is this close enough to catch most Baton Rouge channels with a indoor antenna? Or do i need to possibly put something outside on the balcony ? TV fool has most channels at 20 miles away due west from me.

Hey,
Sorry it took me so long, busy with other stuff. Yeah, you should be good in Denham Springs for OTA. Most of the transmitters are located west of Baton Rouge on some high ground, so you are probably at the twenty mile or so range. I guess it depends on the antenna. I don't know a lot about OTA (stuck with Directv), so it might take a test to find out what works for you. If you are up off the ground, with the right antenna you might even be able to get some of the New Orleans stations, but that would probably be pushing it. I would try what you have, then upgrade if necessary. Good luck with it!

I picked up a Winegard Freevision antenna from Home Depot. Just had it sitting on the balcony and I'm picking up Lafayette channels which TV fool says is 50-60 miles out

Spoke to soon. Soon as i mounted it on the balcony, I lost all Lafayatte channels and channel 2 drops out intermittently.
