Cablevision apparently pushed a new firmware upgrade last night, at least to my location (Smithtown, NY)

Here was the first report I saw in another thread...

By the way, maybe the post originator could change the title of this thread to Long Island, NY - Cablevision. The current title, every time I see it, implies New York City.

So maybe it should just be titled iO Cablevision

the first post indicated that it was for long island, but if the info is applicable across the board for cablevision, then the more the merrier.

The new software, which we received in CT yesterday, fixes two of the VCR/DVR quirks: 1. You can now begin viewing a program after recording has already begun, at the beginning. You no longer need to rewind to start. 2. Also during such viewing you don't get kicked out when the progam ends forcing you to start all over from the beginning. You can continue viewing without missing a beat.

In my area UPN is not available in HD yet. They do have a digital 480i version though.

In my area there is WB available in both 480i and 1080i, I just couldn't find the 1080i version yet.

From what I can tell, the SA 8300 box is the only one with an HDMI connection. Can you get this box WITHOUT subscribing to the DVR service? I don't need the DVR function, but would like the HDMI. I'm buying an HD TV for the bedroom and I'm trying to iron this out before I purchase.

Any thoughts/insights appreciated!!

BTW, I have IO digital here in NNJ

I have an SA 4200HD which has a DVI. I believe you can get a cable that will have DVI at one end and HDMI on the other. Check Best Buy or Radio Shack website.

yes, martin is right; if you don't want the DVR, you get the 4200 which has a DVI port. A simple DVI->HDMI cable or a DVI->HDMI adapter (if you already have an HDMI cable) will do the trick.

You can also request one that has a 1394 port but I'm not sure what video connection it comes with, DVI, HDMI, or just plain old analog connections...anyone?

Currently the only 1394 box that CV will give out is the 4200hd box. The old Sony boxes had 1394 but I don't believe CV will even supply them anymore since they are trying to phase them out. the 4200hd has a dvi connection on it

I have a 4200HD but I don't think it has a 1394 connector.

What the hell is going on...after they pushed the latest "fix" many of my recordings have been getting botched and the unit itself isn't behaving normally at times (e.g., none of the DVR functionality until reboot)...i think the new "standby" feature is honking things up!

I feel your pain alot of my scheduled recordings are being deleted, so I find myself having to reprogram them every week.

My problem seems to only occur with the "season pass" scheduled recordings. I attempted to delete and reprogram them last night. My only difficulty is that they don't show up unless there is an actual "new" show to record. They really should provide a screen that actually shows all scheduled recordings, including the season pass recordings that may not have an episode to record within the apparent 7-day window.

Once an all episode recording is in your scheduled recording list it stays there (at least it did until the last update) even if the show is not on in the next 7 days. For weekly shows it schedules the same day and time next week when the current one starts. If the show is not airing that next week it still shows in the list, leading some to believe that they have missed a recording. If a show doesn't air for two consecutive weeks it stays in the list with the date of the first unaired week. When it finds a match in the guide it schedules the next recording. This worked flawlessly for me at Christmas time because I had a couple of shows that didn't air for a month and it picked it up when they resumed.

If you try to set up an all episode recording using the first run only option it will not set up unless the show you are using from the guide is flagged as first run. You will have to wait until you know that the show is new before setting it up with this option.

Yes, sorry, I was referring to "first run only option" when I used the phrase "season pass" ... and these don't appear to show up in the scheduled recordings list unless there is a new episode within the next seven days.

No 711 here in Wilton, CT yet. 792 HDPPV does not offer any programing at this time but it states that it does provide HDPPV. I am guessing it is a phased rollout.

The internal memo someone posted stated that WB11HD will be rolled out between the 12th and 14th. Everyone should have it by Thursday, in time for the Mets vs Braves series this weekend. Three of the games will be in HD on WB11.

Even the ones flagged first run stay in the list once they are set up. It's getting them in the list that's the hard part. I just want to make sure you're aware that they're not sitting in some hidden list waiting for a new episode. Unless the show you are using to set up the all episode recording is flagged first run then you are setting up nothing. It doesn't tell you this, it just doesn't set it up. This is one area of the SARA software that could be improved .

hdppv 792 is reserved for Saturday's boxing match. CV did the same thing with the last Tyson fight, then removed 792 the following week.

All the digital local broadcast channels (non HD) have been off the air since 5:16pm here from the Oakland, NJ system. The analogs are fine.
Anyone else having the same problem?

I checked with my QAM tuner and get no signal on the SD locals.

They just came back on at 5:55pm.

It looks like the WPIX-DT up convert of the WPIX-TV Ch11 4:3 video feed has a bit of
edge enhancement on it. Not has bad as WNYW-DT but some of the on
screen text and video looks soft.
