1024x720 is the standard resolution for flat panels up to 42". HD will look awesome. My 42" has the same resolution and it's gorgeous.

I purchased mine from Visual Apex (forum sponsor) and they did a good job on delivery and customer support.

Anyone notice the audio is a second ahead of the video on SNY HD? Causes confusion when hearing the sound of the ball hit either the bat or the catcher's mitt as the hitter goes into his swing.

Picture quality is great and feel sorry for Jorge Julio - he is not responsible for the trade that put him in such a horrific position.

Yes, I noticed it. It was not very good to watch that way. At least it looked great.

I've noticed the last few weeks I get no DD 5.1 for HBO on Ch14 for shows like the Sopranos and recent movie broadcasts. Usually all the speaker on indicators light up but now I only see L & R (front) and S.
Robots airing now on HBO has DD 5.1 audio and it's not being pushed through.
I did a test with a 5.1 DVD and the reciever is working fine. Anyone else notice this or can check when the next DD 5.1 movie is on HBO?

SD channel ?
I wasn't aware HBO delivered DD5.1 on their SD channel. DD5.1 is part of their HD offering, not SD.

They used to push DD 5.1 on HBO (SD). Someone suggested HBO might have stopped sending DD 5.1 on the SD feed once HBO-HD started.

Encore & Starz (SD) still send DD 5.1 audio on their movies.

Hey guys, great forum... lots of good info.

I'm still relatively a newb at setting up my home theater... but I think I have it done properly. However, I may be running into a problem...

I have the SA 8300HD connected to my Samsung 56" DLP, using the HDMI connection. Sometimes, the audio skips... and I need to turn off the TV and back on again to get the audio back. (I've read here, though, that it's a bug with HDMI.)

Other problem, though, is that I can't access the Closed Caption. When I go through the TV's menu, the Closed Caption is greyed out and unselectable. (It's available on any other mode, however.)

And fidgeting with the box yesterday just experimenting, I found that it had been set up to be fixed on 1080i. I changed it to AUTO just to see... and noticed that it will automatically flip to whatever broadcast format is on the channel. On the few channels that are 720, I've noticed the picture is misshaped. (Seems stretched or something because the network's watermark is on the bottom edge of the screen, cut off.) I thought it may have been the # button settings on the remote, but it was on the normal setting.

Also, some 480i channels give me a "Mode Not Supported" error... forcing me to go back to the 1080i fixed. Is there anything wrong with keeping it forced on 1080i? Am I losing any picture quality if the broadcast doesn't originate in 1080i? (IOW, if it's a 720, will it not translate correctly?)

To be honest, I haven't noticed anything bad... but then again, I'm not sure what to compare it to... other than my old 19" tv. Obviously, even the SD channels look great on the big DLP (despite some artifacting) but I'd like to get it set up to bring in the best picture it can get. (Are there signal strength settings I can check/tweak as well?)

Thanks for the help... I really appreciate it!

most likely your tv doesn't support 480i over HDMI. Go back into the HDTV wizard on the 8300hd, choose the manual (or customize) setting, disable references to 480i, and enable 480p instead.

This way, if a 720p or 1080i channel comes on, the box will switch to one of those resolutions, but if a 480i analog/sd channel comes on, the box will output it as 480p instead, and your tv will accept that over hdmi

Anyone have any idea if Cablevision will add more HD this year like

HDNET
Discovery HD
TNT
NFL Network

It seems they are committed to HD but with no real additions lately......

Yes, INHD2/SNY-HD. That's what we get for now. Maybe if we're good we can get some Discovery!

No it will not force Cablevision to carry it and the amount of system capacity will dictate whether or not it will be in HD. NFL Network and Cablevision will negotiate how the channel will be carried, as part of the sports package, a seperate premium package or available to all. The reason more HD channels are not added is not because of $ - capacity for HD channels is limited and I don't know how or when Cablevision is going to add capacity for more HD. SNY is an all HD channel but only the home games are broadcast in HD on INHD2 because Cablevision is replacing the INHD2 HD signal with SNY HD until the game is over. I wish I knew what the timeline is for more capacity and HD channels. Can anyone help?

I agree with you in terms of HD. But yes games do force systems to get those networks to keep their viewers happy. I would be shocked if they didnt have NFL Network in SD in time for the first games they air. Cablevision will give the viewers what they want or they will go elsewhere.

Cablevision will have more channel capacity later this year. They are currently taking steps to reclaim bandwith.

As for NFL Network, there are no guarantees with CV. If the price is too high CV may balk because NFL Network is insisting that it must be part of Family Cable. Even if they don't carry it you would still get any Jets or Giants games that NFL Network televised. NFL rules state that any games airing on cable must be made available on a OTA station in the teams home market.

Last night I was watching a movie from my DVR-HD Hard Drive when the picture went black for about two seconds but when I played the same spot over again it was fine. Later, I was watching the Yankees on 715 but when switching to digital cables my TV could only sense a 16x9 picture not enabling me to use wide stretch (grey bars on both sides instead). Only tuning down to a local station (22) did the picture size return to 4x3.

This ever happen to anybody else? I'm not so worried about the DVR as much as I'm concerned it was my set.

Thanks as always,
Joe

I noticed last night that when I put my STB on channel 702 (supposed to be CBS HD) what appeared on my TV was 704 (NBC HD) from 57 minutes earlier in the day! (I could tell that because the NBC evening news was ending at 8:03 PM when it really ended at 7:00 PM...on NBC!). Anyway, I called CB and they led me through a re-boot of the STB, no waiting on hold. Fixed it first time through. Good support.

Channel 715 finally has actually program info for the Yankees games.
The message also looks newer and a HD flag appears durning game hours.
I looked ahead and saw that Sat game is listed as Yankees vs Blue Jays.

I see Yanks are listed as being on YES HD on http://www.hdsportsguide.com/ despite Fridays going to UPN (Channel 9). Happy to see games go to a local provider, but sure hope to get HD home games on Friday nights.

YES expands road HD broadcasts of Yankees

YES Network
April 26, 2006

NEW YORK The YES Network (www.yesnetwork.com), the most-watched regional sports network in the country, will provide New York Yankees fans with enhanced coverage during the 2006 season through an expanded schedule of high-definition Yankees telecasts.

The network has added seven away telecasts to its existing hi-def schedule, bringing the total number of away Yankees telecasts presented in hi-def to 34. As was the case last season, all 61 YES telecasts of home Yankees games are presented in hi-def this year. In addition, another 22 away telecasts this season will be presented in enhanced definition. YES' enhanced definition coverage is a result of the network's up-converting its standard definition productions, thus providing better audio and video quality than traditional standard definition telecasts.

Our robust Yankees HD schedule, complemented with the enhanced definition telecasts, is consistent with our efforts to bring our viewers the best experience possible, said Ray Hopkins, COO, YES Network. These telecasts, coupled with our interactive telecasts premiering in July and the new YESNetwork.com launching in June with video highlights, are examples of our using the latest technology to bring Yankees fans closer than ever to their favorite team.

(NOTE: All times are Eastern and subject to change. Stay with YESNetwork.com for updated information, including time, and broadcast teams.)

Good to see more games on in HD. I'm not a Yankee fan, but I do enjoy watching them, as well as the Mets, in HD.

On a different note, my InHD channel was not coming in the past couple nights (701). Has anyone else been having this issue? It came in fine since day 1. Luckily I'm not a basketball fan or else I would have been pretty upset, as the playoffs have been televised there.

On Tuesday and Thursday night INHD was showing NBA TV's HD coverage of the Nets vs Pacers. Due to NBA rules that coverage had to be blacked out locally to protect the Nets local broadcast. When sports on INHD get blacked out you just get a blank screen.

Thanks, that's probably what it was. I've never had InHD drop out, so it was a bit of a surprise.

i think it will only look like sh$t and cause confusion.

Amen! I am a D* customer now and I am very close to switching to CV because of HD PQ, but if they are going to start HD-Lite too than I might as well stay wher I am.

Did you people read the same story as the rest of us. Where does it say anything about Cablevison going to HD lite? The story said that the YES Network will start broadcasting more road games in HD and road games that they can't do in HD will be done in enhanced definition. This is better then we are getting now and applies to what the YES network transmits to everyone. All home games and half of the road games will be in true HD and they look great on CV.

2 things:

1) Don't be snotty!

2) You are probably right about the "enhanced" definition but after watching the PQ on D* drop I get a bit jumpy as soon as a provider says they go to enhace a signal. I just want to find a provider that is going to deliver consistant quality PQ and increase the number of channels.

I know what I read and that is why I responded to it. Fox tried this before going to 720p. The only outcome will be a crappy looking upconvert and a lot of confused viewers. I can tell right away when their current broadcast switches to a SD camera and it looks horrible.

So I repeat, they can keep their "enhanced def"!
