I was a cablevision subscriber for over 10 years, I only switched to D* over the Whole yankees fiasco a few years ago.
I saw my first HD-TV a couple years ago and I was hooked immediately.
I shelled out nearly $1,000 for a HD-Tivo nearly a Year ago.
It was great at first but when they started Downrezzing it was very noticable on my Sony 50" RP LCD.
I recently got a call from Cablevision offering me the IO package along with the HD-DVR for a total of $59.99 a month for a Year. Since I could cancel at anytime I decided to give it a try to compare HD Picture Quality.
I immediately noticed the better PQ with CV, I have had the SA8300HD for a couple of weeks now and it by far gives a sharper HD picture than D* is currently offering.
Im running the HD-Tivo and SA8300HD on seperate componet inputs so I can Pause the same show on HBO-HD and closely compare the picture quality. CV is much much better.
The only downside with the SA8300HD is the software. The Tivo software is by far better, but Im willing to sacrifice that for a much better picture.
Plus thanks to this forum I now found out that I can add a external hard drive very easily. With the HD-Tivo you have to crack open the case Voiding the warrantee on the $1K purchase.
I will give it another month before I make my decision
D* is supposedly going to make a big announcement very soon about adding more HD channels in late July early August.
I hope that CV adds more HD channels very soon, it will make my choice a lot easier.
