Judging from other cities, subs usually end up on cable systems within a few months of their launch OTA.

I live in Uptown Minneapolis, and would like to get rock-solid reception including ION. Probably could get away with an antenna in my attic, but it seems like outdoors would possibly be better? Hard to tell. Certainly an indoor antenna works pretty well, with only the occasional dropout, however, indoor antennas are awkward and ugly, in my opinion.
I'd love to connect it to the cable wiring throughout the house, and offer a good antenna feed to my tenants too.
Are there any antenna installers left, or has cable/dish killed out everyone that knew how to do things correctly? Should I Just figure out how to do it myself?

Anyone else getting 5.90
It's a dup of 5.2 so I assume KSTP is getting ready for MeTV
It's physical channel is 45(659,000 MHz) so it isn't steeling any bits from 5.1 or physical channel 35(599,000 MHz).

Outdoors is always better then indoors but you can do quite well with an indoor antenna.
If you want to share the antenna with the tenants you'd definitely want a distribution amp.

I believe there are still TV antenna installers. Ask a TV repair shop if you can find one (see yellow pages). Satellite installers might be able to do the job as well. There are still a lot of people out state that have someone install tv antennas, towers, amps etc.

I have a 4 bay antenna on the roof of my house and get excellent reception on all locals and ch 41.

See: http://www.solidsignal.com/

Whatever happened to Ions plan to move transmitter from Big Lake to Shoreview? Seemed they had approval to do so. They now carry some worthwhile programming in the evening and the 24/7 Qubo kids channel is missed now that TPT discontinued their 24/7 carry of kids programming OTA.

The FCC approved the move in 2009. They have until May 27, 2012 to complete it. Even if they miss that deadline, they could still apply again.

Did anyone else notice that with the start of the new TV season, KMSP and WFTC now have the ability to show syndicated programming and local commercials during those programs in HD? The early morning replays of KMSP's 9 PM news are in HD now as well. All in all, I'd say the majority of the programming on the two channels is currently in HD, as opposed to before when HD wasn't seen outside of prime time or live newscasts.

I have a friend with whom I used to work at 5/45. He was doing some temp work for 9/29. From what he tells me, all master control play outs and switching has now been handed off to a central location in Las Vegas for all network and syndicated material for FOX O & Os, except for news.

Must be quite an operation!

Gannett uses a similar facility for its stations. Usually flawless, but I did see a bug ID for their Portland, Maine station on KARE once!

Forgive my ignorance on the matter, but how do these remote switching facilities that KARE and KMSP/WFTC use work? Do they send and receive the programming to the local stations online, by satellite, or by some other means?

Fiber feeds, I think.

A now-closed company called Equity Broadcasting used to feed several dozen stations via unscrambled satellite feeds. That was fun, until they went bankrupt! WUMN-CA (13) was one of the stations.

TitanTV.com has started to list the ME-TV schedule for 45.3

Any word on an official or a private launch?

One of my HDTVs allows me to tune to 45.3 but indicates no signal. They were simulcasting 5.2 for a while. Dick, any update on when METV will start up?

I still have 5.90 but it now says no signal, previously it was a simulcast of 5.2.

Getting a signal on 5.90 with video is probably the easiest part of getting Me-TV going.
Now they have to get a receiver and sat antenna pointed at the right satellite.
I checked which satellite was carrying the Me-TV programming and it looks like the same one that This TV uses, AMC3 http://www.lyngsat.com/amc3.html
That should make things that much simpler since KSTP/KSTC is already pointed there to get This TV.

I also lost video on 5.90 but still get a signal strength reading.

Hubbard Broadcasting's KSTP-TV/5.1 (St. Paul) and KSTC-TV/45.1 (Minneapolis) made some channel changes Wednesday (Oct. 12), centralizing the operation's stations under the channel 5 umbrella. Regular ABC programming continues on 5.1, but KSTC's independent lineup now remaps to 5.45. Meanwhile, This TV moved from 45.2 to 5.4 and a promotional loop of Me-TV is showing on 5.3. KSTP broadcasts on channel 35 while KSTC is on 45, both remapping to 5. (10/12/2011)

OK, at first glance this seems even more confusing than I could have imagined!

I just rescanned and got:

5-1 is still KSTPHD
5-3 is METV
5-4 is THISTV
5-45 is KSTC
45-2 is a video loop on how to find THIS TV on 5-4
45-5 is what used to be 5-2

I'm really hoping this 45-5 thing is temporary. Why omit a logical virtual assignment of 5-2 in favor of one under 45, while moving the actual channel 45 to 5?

At least they did keep the content for KSTP on UHF 35 and the rest on UHF 45.

Ugh! If this doesn't change, I really don't want to have to explain all this to Tivo/Tribune Media Services....

Edit: Just tuned in to see that Who Wants to be a Millionaire now fills the whole screen. Can't quite tell if it's true HD or still the result of up or down conversion (looks pretty soft still, but better than the 4:3 version did....)

Yeah it's kind of a mess right now. I hope channels become clearer when they are done.
I guess ch 45 won't show up on the channel list in the future.
Anyhow I'm really happy that KSTP/KSTC has done a good job adding some programming diversity in the Twin Cities market.

I'm getting:
5.1 KSTP HD (physical 35)
5.2 Same that is has been(news repeats) (Physical 35)
5.3 MeTV promos (Physical 45)
5.4 This TV (Physical 45)
5.45 KSTC (channel 45) (Physical 45)
5.9 KSTPD3 No Video (Physical 45)
45.1 KSTC (channel 45) (Physical 45)
45.2 This TV (Physical 45)
45.5 (Same as 5.2 news repeats) KSPTD2 (Physical 35)

I'm happy so far 5.1 HD only has 1 sub channel, better for picture quality. I don't care so much if 45 has a couple more, the vast majority of what they show isn't so demanding anyway.

My regular contact for the area is currently between OTA antennas and given the mess, I'd love to have a look at TSReader output from KSTP and KSTC to see what's going on. I bet some of the extraneous stuff people are seeing is old data but that 45-5 and whatnot is certainly odd. Anyone using a computer-attached tuner on Windows? I can provide instructions.

From what I've heard, 45.5 is supposed to be there. Not sure if that'll remain the same if 45.1/45.2 are eventually turned off.

After a reset on my old Panasonic HDTV I rescanned and got this

RF35 has 2 channels
5-1 KSTP (KSTPDT1)
45-5 the reruns of news (KSTPDT2)

RF45 logs as such
45-1 loop of how to rescan for 45(logs as KSTCDT8)
45-2 loop on how to rescan for ThisTV (logs as KSTCDT9)
5-3 promo for MeTV (KSTCDT3)
5-4 ThisTV (KSTCDT2)
5-45 KSTC (KSTCDT1)

After a rescan on my main 70" LCD RPTV, no channel 5.1. Makes it tough to watch since it doesn't come in. Seems that 5.1 gets overwritten by the mapping of 45 to 5. I do get 5.3 and 5.4 and 5.45. Oh well, it's nice to be getting METV.

Of course directv does not allow channel scans. You just enter a primary and secondary zip codes (if you have one), and it downloads the local channels it has for your area. I did this tonight and it gave just 5-1 (not even 5-2, which is usually there. For 45, it gave me 45-1 and 45-2, as always. Maybe they're waiting for things to shake out, but I'm not holding my breath.

Also, for digital 23, it's always given me the CW feed on 23-1, and music videos on 23-2. I thought I heard that there was to be another music channel on 23-3. Is this true?

It also doesn't show the low power religious stations.
My wife still likes the tivo, maybe I'll play around with it's scanning feature tomorrow.

Channel 23.3 has been on almost long as 23.2. I think 23.3 came on a week after 23.2 with Country Music videos.

Sounds like you should get some rabbit ears for your TV and have some fun playing.

Tivos take a really long time to channel scan since they always scan for both cable and antenna. Anyway, my TivoHD found the following new channels upon rescanning (it left the old channels alone):

5-3 KSTCDT3
5-4 KSTCDT2
5-45 KSTCDT1
45-5 KSTPDT2

Of course Tribune Media Services provides all the guide data to Tivo and either they are unaware of the changes or haven't implemented them yet, so there's no guide information for any of the new channels. For now I'm leaving the preexisting data for 45, 45-2 and 5-2 listed in the guide even though I can't use it to record or tune to those channels. At least that way I'll still be able to see what's on them, albeit in a less-than convenient way.

Once we're sure that things are finalized (or we hear from drice91 to that effect) I'll attempt to complete this form to communicate the changes to Tivo and TMS.

I was looking at that same form last night. :-)

Let us know when we should submit and we may get a quicker response with multiple forms for the same request.

It's hard to say without any official word from KSTP when we should begin contacting Tivo/TMS. The websites for both KSTP and KSTC link to TitanTV schedules that still show the old lineup, and despite having instructions on rescanning, the KSTC website still has a top tab showing " This TV 45.2"

KSTP's official schedule page
KSTC's official schedule page

It'll only make things more confusing if we submit lineup forms to Tivo but they look and see contradictory information on the official sites. For now I think I'll wait at least a full week (until the 19th) and re-evaluate the situation at that time.

It took more than six months to get the whole KMSP/WFTC mapping and scheduling correct with TMS, and that was only accomplished with the help of someone at the station communicating both with me and with Tribune directly.

This is much more complicated, so who knows how long it'll take. Someone with better writing skills than I have could probably make a great "Who's on first?" spoof with this channel arrangement

Personally I'm not liking the new channel assignments I use channel up/down all the time and like to flip between 4,5,9 and 11. I had 5.2 in my channel lineup but not 9.2 so flipping was pretty easy. Now with all the 5's it really complicates things 5.2, 5.3, 5.4, 5.45 and 5.9(yes I suppose I could remove this data channel).
I would have much preferred ME, 45.1 and THIS channels to stay up on the 45s and reduce the clutter on the 5s.
I don't really want to remove THIS, ME and 5.45 from my channel list but I may just end up doing that. I could always directly enter those numbers if wanted to, although being off my channel scan list I'd probably never think about them...I kind of wish TVs allowed one to order the channel scan list(like how the broadcasters can reorder things with PSIP) but I've never seen a TV that has that feature.
