I was about to post that KQEG TV-23 in La Crosse has been off the air for several days.

Turns out it's for the best possible reason, as I just noticed the station posted this on their Facebook page the other day, May 14:

Our over the air signal (Channel 23) is off the air for the week as we are in the process of switching over to a digital transmitter.

You'll be able to continue to watch our programming on both Charter and CenturyLink during this process.

We hope to be up and running on Channel 23.1 by this time next week.

Post a TVFool.com report so we can see what kind of level you're working with. The situation is probably not as dire as you presume.

Here's a medium VHF-Hi antenna: http://www.amazon.com/BLV6F-CH7-13-A...racarro-Italy/

Point that straight north and combine it (via a splitter) with a small UHF antenna like this aimed at 223deg: http://www.amazon.com/Eagle-Aspen-EA...ectv-Approved/

Sorry about that. Trimmed the URL down a little too far.

http://www.amazon.com/BLV6F-CH7-13-A...dp/B002VM4GG4/

http://www.amazon.com/Eagle-Aspen-EA...dp/B000GIT002/

That's one surefire solution. There are a few different configurations that could work, including DIY antennas. Basically you are two miles away from the UHFs. They're stupid strong. WKBT is only 18 miles away but does take a bit hit because of the topography (if you click on WKBT in the listing, you'll see this page: http://www.tvfool.com/?option=com_wr...dALLTV%26n%3d5). That being said, it only needs a moderately sized VHF antenna. The one I prescribed is probably massive overkill. What antenna are you currently working with? Unfortunately a lot stuff is really only designed for VHF.

If you're a DIY kind of guy you could build a 2-bay VHF-Hi antenna like this (a 1 bay may even suffice) https://sites.google.com/site/maycre...tie-for-vhf-hi For UHF, a 2 or 4 bay version of this: http://uhfhdtvantenna.blogspot.com/

I wouldn't touch an amp or a preamp at those distances. Throw those two antennas in the attic (properly aimed) and if necessary put a reflector screen on the VHF-Hi - you could easily feed multiple sets.

WFXS Wausau goes dark; FOX moves to WZAW-LD

Quote:
Wausau-Rhinelander, Wis. (DMA 134): Gray entered into an agreement with Davis Television LLC, to acquire certain non-license assets of WFXS, which had served as the market’s Fox affiliate. Earlier today, WFXS ceased operating. At that time, the parties closed the transaction, and Gray began broadcasting the program streams formerly transmitted by WFXS on Gray's digital low-power WZAW in Wausau. Gray also owns and operates full-power WSAW in Wausau, which serves as the market's CBS affiliate. Kalil & Co. was the exclusive broker for this transaction.
http://www.tvnewscheck.com/article/8...3-earlier-ones

At least they could have waited until after Sunday's Women's World Cup final.

Gray should add a simulcast of WZAW on WSAW-DT2 to cover the whole market. Also, where would WFXS go?

Anyway, here's how I'd do things in Wausau:

7.1 CBS (1080i)
7.2 FOX (720p) // WZAW-LD
7.3 MNT (480i) (move from 7.2)

55.1 FOX (720p) // WSAW-DT2
55.2 MeTV (480i)
55.3 Movies! (480i)
55.4 Heroes & Icons (480i) (move from 7.3)

From Northpine.com:

Quote:
Gray TV CBS affiliate WSAW/7 (Wausau) has added FOX on channel 7.3, simulcasting low-power "FOX 55" (WZAW-LD/55.1 Wausau). Gray launched WZAW-LD at the beginning of the month to assume the programming and channel position of WFXS-DT/55.1 (Wittenberg), which went silent after Gray bought the rights to its programming. (FCC ownership caps prohibited Gray from buying WFXS outright, but LPTV stations are not subject to ownership caps.) Many viewers had complained that they could no longer receive FOX after 55.1 downgraded to 15kW, the maximum allowed for LPTV stations. FOX replaces Heroes & Icons TV on channel 7.3; WSAW continues to carry MyNetworkTV and other syndicated programming on 7.2, while WZAW-LD also carries Me-TV on 55.2 and Movies! on 55.3.
One Facebook poster says 7.3 is still in SD.

Quote:
In my opinion I would much rather watch the Packers than hill street blues. I wish it was on 7-2 so it could be HD and widescreen, but this is better than nothing
https://www.facebook.com/WFXSFOX55

And this leaves Heroes & Icons without a home in Wausau.

Decades coming to WXOW

I saw a blurb while watching 19 about Decades coming soon.

Went to the WXOW website and found it is starting September 2.

The channel listed is 19.3 so it appears it will replace thisTV.

Otherwise with two HD and two SD channels we're talking artifact city.

Both Madison and Wausau show decades replacing thistv....according to the decades website

So assume 18.3 and 19.3 will also change as they are owned by the same folks

That is logical, although I haven't found anything yet on the WQOW website.

Curious that Decades is appearing on ABC affiliates. Decades is CBS owned and has been appearing on CBS OO stations. WCCO CBS was the last Twin Cities station with just one channel. But Decades is now on 4.2. Evidently WKBT was not interested.

From I have seen on Decades so far, I would rather have thisTV. But I still have two other thisTV choices from my location so I won't lose it.

Decades is co-owned by CBS and Weigel (same folks who own MeTV). The CBS O&O's had it since launch. Everone else is an affiliate agreement. I have a feelng Weigel is trying to get affiliates to swith from This (which they did co-own) to Decades (or Movies!)

I agree on Decades. I get it via KCCW-DT2 (satellite of WCCO) and other than "Beyond the Decades" its boring. The 6 hour loop doesnt help either
