Hmm. Testing a delay server, in the middle of the Feb book, in prime time, on two of their most important programs, 6 weeks before any probable need to use it? Most GMs and sales managers would frown upon that (but then management at that company already has a questionable rep...ask almost any current or former employee). Once they noticed a problem, why not take it off line? And they wonder why they can't get ratings comparable to other ABC affils. (Sorry for the rant...I'm a little irked at missing half the key dialog in Lost and Alias, I guess. I'm all better now.)

There's no place like 127.0.0.1

Yep, Lost and Alias had audio problems. Would go from DD 5.1 to DD 2.0.

We are trying to figure out what kind of logic is being used to delete posts. We are trying to have a discussion about it but can't if the posts keep getting deleted. I have no problem posting the same post until I get an answer.

They don't allow references to outside forums. Particularly when there's a history of using AVS as a recruiting ground for another forum - either openly or through PM.

Interesting...So why is it in the HD programming forum and in other local HD forums there are links to outside forums? Please enlighten me how saying "I heard it on another forum" is recruiting?

I'm not going through this again - read back in the thread for more info. Stick to discussion of Phoenix area HDTV - references to outside forums will be deleted.

This is not true!!!! Can you please show us where in the rules this is mentioned cause I have have not found it yet.

There are various other forums here on AVS that allow this.

I doubt this post will last long...but proof needs to be made that the current Mod is out of control.

I checked out a couple of the other local threads and they have links to outside forums. I then must assume that just our local thread is being singled out.

I have no idea. I have been a long time lurker, and have never seen any post deleted because it referenced information on another board. I also do not see anything in the rules about this. Seems the moderator has some sort of personal vendetta going on, wether against the user, or against the other forums. I would think that posting a link is the easiest way to reference information, be it on another board, or on some webpage.

And, who really cares if any of us look at several forums for information? I was unaware I would have problems if I looked at another forum.

Steven

Please show me one post that says leave AVS and come join such and such a forum. My question still has not been answered, why is it allowed in other threads?

Now back on topic - if you guys are dead set on discussing another forum, do it there not here - or handle it off line.

From the rules and policies page:

14. LINKS

The Service may provide, or third parties may provide, links to other World Wide Web sites or resources. Because AVS FORUM has no control over such sites and resources, you acknowledge and agree that AVS FORUM is not responsible for the availability of such external sites or resources, and does not endorse and is not responsible or liable for any Content, advertising, products, or other materials on or available from such sites or resources. You further acknowledge and agree that AVS FORUM shall not be responsible or liable, directly or indirectly, for any damage or loss caused or alleged to be caused by or in connection with use of or reliance on any such Content, goods or services available on or through any such site or resource.

The fact that AVSForum states that they are not resposible for the content of outside links tells me that they DO allow outside links.

If I want, I will join and participate in other outside forums, with or without your permission. I am amazed at you audacity.

We are dead set on discussing what is being deleted and has nothing to do with another forum. I am tired of posts being deleted, when the exact same thing is happening in other AVS threads and nothing is happening to those posts. That is not fair.

Please do not use this forum to promote an outside forum. Please do not post links.
You are welcome to use this forum for what it is. We of course welcome this.
If you feel this forum is not meeting your needs and feel you have to start another that is also fine but inviting members from this forum to move over to another forum by linking or PMing will not be allowed. I dont think this is being unreasonable.

Lets keep this thread on topic.

Thank you.

I have gone to using satellite for the local shows. The HD stations are still a little spotty. I use the HD when I watch live TV though.

An attenuator was mentioned somewhere. I did get one and my reception has improved dramatically. It was less than 10 bucks and is a variable attenuator. I got it at Radio Shack. You will have to do a search as posting links is not allowed.

Does anyone know of when ALL the locals should have their bugs worked out?

Thanks

Alan, please explain to me why we are not allowed to post links but other local threads are?

EDIT:

If you or any Admin/Mod can please show me where a link was posted and said to leave AVS and go to this other forum. I have seen a few other local threads where links to "other" forums are posted and they are not deleted.

Not sure! Stations around the country are still trying to work out the kinks. I know our ABC affil has a ways to go in terms of getting there sound problems fixed.

It's quite simple really. He is part owner of AVS and has stated that no links to other forums will be allowed. This is his house so to speak and we ought to respect his wishes.

Ive just got done PMing Mr Bott. Really nice guy. It seems that we are not allowed to post links to ANY outside material. It has to do with marketing. Although I dont recall posting any links (as I dont know how), it seems I fell afoul of it somehow and CPanther deemed it necessary to modify my posts. I cant find it in the rules, but I guess its just one of those common knowledge things.

I guess this is why I mostly lurk and do little participating, my netiquette has always been lacking!

As to soundmasters question about what can or will be deleted. Its up to the moderators, period. Right or Wrong, them are the rules.

Sorry to take everyones time.

First of all, no one posted a link. They simply mentioned where they got the information they were posting regarding the recent audio problems on ABC-15. IMO this is no different than saying they saw an article in the New York Times saying such and such.

They can run this board any way they want, since it's theirs, but IMHO they could at least PM the individual to let them know a post was censored and why. CP has something against us because of the previous discussion, but we've done our best to respond to questions here and not steer anyone away from AVS. Links were posted in the past in response to someone asking for a location.

The bottom line is if we do something against his arbitrary rules, all we ask is that we be treated with respect and be advised of what we did wrong instead of waking up and finding our posts censored. Regardless of what ATH says, respect is a two-way street no matter who owns or runs the board.

Cheers, Dave

I've got nothing against you guys. Most of the guys who were openly trying to steer people away from AVS to the other forum haven't posted here in the past couple of months. A quick read of the posts from just before Christmas will show you how accommodating I was for those people that were only interested in locating the new forum. If people were intent on finding the other forum, I made it very easy for them to do so. We are now well beyond the point that people are showing up here to find the old Society forum.

The only lingering "rule" from the discussion back then was that any references to the other forum on this thread would be deleted. This is a result of the open "recruiting" going on by some. Those of you monitoring the thread back then know darn well all the "AVS sucks - I've sent you a PM" posts that were deleted. References to the other forum will continue to be deleted, so don't take offense, or at least, don't be surprised.

Back to the last known topic, Audio Issues on Lost, OTA.

I had issues too.

It was so bad I had to watch the regular SD broadcast.

It's one of my fav show too. Along with Battlestar and Bill Mahar. THought neither is in HD, except maybe Mahar, who's new season starts tonight.
