Do you guysthink a signal amp is the way to go or should I try a different antenna. VARTV is only about 2 miles from my house and he is getting everything.

I think you are doing damn well getting everything but 33 from the courthouse with a silver sensor. You must be in a soybean field or some other totally unobstructed terrain out there.

Not too many obstructions nearby where I'm at (just south of PA/Seaboard Rds). This new neighborhood is below the "Green Line." Everything is spread out a bit more...

Will WTKR be carrying the New England - New York game on Sunday at 4:00pm?

I am actually in a neighborhood (South Shore Estates - near the new Wal-mart) and my antenna is in my attic, but pointing toward the back corner of my neightbor's house about 25 feet away. I guess my next step would be a better antenna.

Interesting that the Sunday game won't be in HD. The Saturday game is good news. My entire family will be watching here...

WTKR-TV will air the Balt/Pitt game....this game is not being produced in HD by CBS. The Sunday HD games are NY/NE and SD/Indy. CBS says we are to show the Balt/Pitt game.

Nuts...was hoping the Jets/Patriots game would be shown locally as it impacts the possible home field advantage for the Patriots and a possible playoff birth for the Jets.

WTKR-DT is back on the air this morning BUT at reduced power. I'm getting a slightly better signal reading on WTKR than WTVZ. I'm wondering if anyone out there is having problems picking up 3???

Thank God for the NFL Sunday Ticket HD. HOPEFULLY, this will be a great game along with the San Diego/Indianapolis matchup at 1PM...

Having absolutely no promlems with WTKR-DT here...but I'm quite close and get WTVZ almost 100% here also.

Well, being from New England, it is a tough bullet to bite missing the Patriots and unfortunately, Dish Network doesn't have the Sunday Ticket package. It was nice this summer when I had the MLB package though!

I'm getting a signal strength of 54 here in Mathews but that presents no problem. Very stable. What happened to them? Blow another RF power tube?

WAVY-DT, for me, is unwatchable now. Numerous picture break-ups & freezes during the noon news. Is it due to the increase of wind outside?

I think Ted is still operating on one tube. Just as a point of reference, if a company has a good relationship with the manufacturer, an Inductive Output Tube (IOT) costs $29,000.00.

I watched WAVY all morning up until about 11:30 and had no problems. We went grocery shopping and I just read your post. I checked and it's still ok. Signal strength 71 -72 and pic is stable at 2:15 pm.

What is the typical lifespan of an IOT? I would imagine that running them at full output vs reduced output would have a considerable effect and paralleling them increased lifespan. Remembering back to my CB days using a "linear RF amplifier that I could go through a lot of output tubes in a short time by cranking it up to full output. Does sharing the same tower have any effect such as SWR's or do they have any effect with digital transmitters?

Hmmmmmm? Linear amplifier on CB? OK !!! But seriously Harold, the tube life expectancy does increase if the tube is run at reduced power consistently. In most transmitters, two or more tubes, or IOTs in UHF TV service are run in parallel in order to obtain the desired output. Most of the time these tubes are run a little below the maximum ratings.

The reason if running one tube is often run at higher power than two tubes run at reduced power each is that the electric power consumption per tubes goes up a lot more than with one tubes. An example of this is if one tube is run at lets say 30KW output.....and you decided to run 2 tubes at 15KW each and combined the output to give you the same 30KW, the power consumption would be quite a bit more than with one tube. The reason is, each tube must have an additional power supply fired up. Several voltages are fed into the tube in addition to filament voltage.

Heck, I don't remember the power consumption of the filaments on our IOTs, but the first AM radio transmitter I worked on put out 5KW and the filament alone consumed nearly 500 watts. I hope this answers your question.

<]Hmmmmmm? Linear amplifier on CB?> Yea I know....but that was back in my younger days. 1KW dead key AM.

Thanks for the reply. I did wonder about the reason to run a single IOT. I guess the economics of power justifies the practice.

Some less. We have two in each transmitter. One tube has about 55,000 hours on it doing just fine, knock on wood....

"The Santa Clause" on 13-1 isn't in HD tonight. Also, the picture that is coming through is very dark and has faint lines going across the screen.
