I guess I have found the antenna sweet spot in my home. WTVZ-DT still mid-60s signal strength this morning at 8:15...

I'll take a sneak peek (in between commercials on The Apprentice) at "One Tree Hill" on 33 tonight at 9P. It's in HD.

I watched "Lost" last night on 13. The pixelation issues that are readily apparent on MNF aren't much of a factor on this HD tv show. I don't know why but there is definitely a difference. It looked really good.

Supposedly, I am getting a new antenna from Voom this saturday. I am hoping that will solve my issues with multipath or whatever is plaguing my OTA reception. Looking forward to Fox football once that issue is taken care of.

Last nights "Smallville" and "Mountain" on 33-2 were supposed to be HD, but they were not. I hope that 33 will do a better job of trying to ensure that when WB sends down an HD show, that it actually shows on 33-2 in HD. Does someone have to remember to swith-over manually, or is it supposed to be automatic?

I dislike the way 33 is simply copying their main SD program on 33-1 to a "stretched" widescreen format on 33-2. I would prefer they keep the SD programs in their proper "aspect ratio". Their up-conversion of the SD (480i) signal to1080i is indeed excellent. However, this practice seems to be fooling several people on our Norfolk AVS threads, into thinking that they are seeing HDTV. They are only seeing a good "stretched" 480i up-convert.

Could we hear from the new WTVZ engineer again, now that he seems to have his HDTV working?

Unwatchable this morning. Low signal strength. Moving the antenna around isn't helping much. I usually compare it, of course, to WVBT-DT.

I'm getting WTVZ-DT much stonger than "Wavy." Guess we gotta watch 13 or 3...

33-2 is stretch-o-vision at its finest. However, I haven't tuned in to any of The WB's scheduled HD showings. The stretched stuff is definitely NOT HD...

There are two shows tonight on The WB that are scheduled to be in HD. One at 8 (to 8:30) and another show at 9PM...

I watched Smallville on Wednesday, and it was definitely being stretched. If you happened to see it 2 weeks ago THAT was in HD. Looked very good.

Did anyone check out the game last nite on FOX? It was in HD, I think??? I only tuned in for a very short time, but it didn't look good at all.

Charles,

Is 33-2 now officially up and running at the HD signal for WB-33? Also, will up-converted SD content always be stretched or are there plans to broadcast with black side-bars? Thanks.

vtguru,

I tried to check out the game.

I looked at it for one batter and turned it off cause I was getting a headache trying to focus my eyes on a bad picture. Hopefully it will be better next time!

RE: 12N NFL pre-game shows. There continues to be lip-sync issues on 3. Oddly, only during the show. The commercials are fine...

Damn, you beat me to it...

Very interesting. I have Sunday NFL Ticket and was going to watch that game through DirecTV but now will watch it on 3-1...

UPDATE: At 1:12, the game on 3-1 has been switched to the Dolphins/Pats game. Boo. Already switched to the Sunday NFL Ticket on DirecTV...

Let's hope this is not like last week when somebody forgot to flip the switch and I was forced to watch a game in SD that was blacked out on D* ST HD b/c it was being carried locally....

1:35 and CBS/WTKR is still showing the HD game in SD. The bad part is I have the NFL Ticket, but I can't watch the NFL Ticket HD channel due to the black out rules. Looks like a no-win situation.

WTKR-DT

NFL HD game

Last week CBS messed up by changing satellite information....This week we messed up. The Miami/NE game was in HD but was on a non-standard transponder and the switch was not made here in Norfolk. I apology for WTKR and I take responsibility for the error.

As far as lip sync problems, is anybody other than VARTV "seeing" this?

Thanks

I have also noticed lip sync issues on WTKR-DT. Specifically, I can remember seeing these issues during the past two episodes of Listen Up. (Monday 0830pm).

Brian, Yeah, it was quite noticable during that show. If I remember correctly, it got much better when Raymond came on...

I'm using DirecTV HD TiVo connected to my TV thru the HDMI input...

I read an intriguing comment over in the programming forum regarding NFL Sunday Ticket and local CBS/FOX affiliates granting waivers based on zip code. Apparently some affiliates are allowing NFLST to "un-blackout" games carried by the affiliate to viewers in certain zipcodes that are too far away to receive a signal OTA, but still in their DMA.

Has anybody heard of this?

I would imagine many NFLST subs here in Dare County from KDH south (beyond grade B) would be interested in something like this.

"Your vacuum cleaner ate my pants. There was nothing I could do."

Fair enough and thanks for being honest.
Perhaps you can think of it as you just saved me from seeing the Fins take a beating in HD quality

Thanks for being a part of the board though...it is nice to know what happened.

Dangit. I watch CBS Monday nights. I'm recording the line-up now...

I took a sneak peek at Everybody Loves Raymond. I couldn't "see" a lip-sync problem. I remember correctly, Ray was OK last week too. "Still Standing" and especially "Listen Up!" it was noticeable...

PS: "Everwood" on WTVZ-DT looked great...
