1. Should the antenna be on the North end of the house since it is aiming North.
2. Will mounting improve anything? ( I just have it propped right now)
Any other suggestions?

Multi-path all the way. You just need to move your antenna around. Could just be a couple of feet. Just keep trying. Once you find your sweet spot you'll be okay.

1) Is there anything in the attic between the antenna and the roof. i.e. air handler? If so move the antenna to the north end.

2) Propped up should be okay. I just have my antenna sitting on a table in the attic.

Good Luck...

I'm not using a pre amp. I think if I did, I'd be getting signal overload.

1. Lagomar, for the most part except the newest section in the back, is due EAST from me. The compass reading from my home to the antennas out in Driver, according to the Domes guy, is 289° and 291° -- just shy of a WNW direction. You say you're aiming the antenna NORTH; it should be aimed ~WNW. The 4228 is a very directional antenna. Find the least amount of obstructions in that direction in your attic. My 4228 is right next to the WEST facing side wall of my home.

2. Nothing wrong with having it propped up but a couple of degrees of movement can make a big difference. I like what Domes did. The installer attached a plastic pole to a rafter near the WEST wall then clamped the antenna to the pole. I can gently loosen the screws on the two clamps and nudge the antenna in either direction. A slight nudge is all it takes to lose WTVZ-DT. If I move it 5° to the NORTH, I lose WTVZ-DT but gain (a strong signal) from WUND-DT from the "back" of the antenna...

Hope this helps...

anyone without directv right now. I have nothing. Is it my dish (ice or snow on it) or the general atmospheric conditions?

I haven't been able to get in 2 of their 3 satellites for several hours now. I just went outside and my dish has a little snow on it, but not much. Plus I guess the snow is screwing up my reception of 43-1, so it looks like it will be SD football today. BTW, my locals on DirecTV do work...

Update: That was quick! They seem to be working again. I wonder if they really were having a problem?? But then I don't see any threads about it over in the HDTV thread. Maybe it was just thick cloud cover??

I re-ran the cable to the north end, repositioned the antenna, almost fell through the ceiling, and got a solid signal on Fox so I could watch my beloved Cowboys play the Redskins. Power goes out at 4:06 and I watch the entire game on my 2.5" Sony portable.
Thanks for all the advice. I will do some more tweaking tomorrow but I can tell that it is better being on the north end of the house aimed close to 290 degrees.

Watched part of the "Bait" movie on Fox last night. It had severe pixelation problems in the action and explosion scences. It was very bad. I hope it was the network's problem.

Many kudos to the ABC network for broadcasting 13 hours of HD today. Some pixelization during fast moving scenes on WVEC-DT. Would we still see it if ABCNews Now (13-2) was turned off?

We'd still see it some in very complex scenes, but certainly not as much.

Peter, I wonder if there is any remote chance you all would consider turning off 13-2 during the Sugar Bowl or at least moving more bandwidth to 13-1 during the game? Obviously there are a lot of Tech fans around here and I for one am having people over to watch the game in HD. The higher the quality, the better. Thanks!

Is everyone else getting lots of pixelation and blocking on the Rose Bowl (13.1)? Even the ABC logo, score display, and graphics are suffering.

I see it too but I don't think it's local. The ABC HD out of NY is the same. I don't see it on ABC HD west. 13 must be using the same NY feed.

I was wondering too if this is more than just local this time because it does look worse than MNF usually looks...

I watched the last half of this game on WVEC-DT and had now problems with it. A perfect picture. Don't know why others had problems and I didn't.
