Yes why isn't american idol in HD?? No HD here in Newport News -VA

Also Fox needs to get rid of the blue "fox" logo from the screen. The small transpartent "fox" logo is fine.

Thank the Lord I have one. I started watching at 8:35. After skipping the commercials, I was already caught up to live TV at 9:05 !!!
I have to hit the 30 second skip button 10 times for each break.
5 minute commercial breaks every 8-10 minutes is way too much. This is what Tivo was made for.

Try watching Boston Legal on Sunday nights. It is literally four minutes of alternating program and commercial. Without a DVR there is just no way I could follow the story line. Because I time shift everything 24 hours HD is a rare luxury for me usually limited to ball games. Sadly the one program I watch live, Amazing Race, is not even delivered in HD.

Be sure to mention your location and whether you're using an indoor, outdoor, or attic antenna.

With an attic antenna (4228 + preamp) on an HDTivo in Williamsburg, and the snowstorm moving just past Norfolk, I'm getting a pretty good signal with almost no breakups on 45-1 but pick up nothing from 17-1.

WVEC-DT is in SD right. This is a shame... Wow.

Are we going to miss HD today on WVEC because of all the closings shown on the crawl? This is a huge event...

I know this isn't the place to start bashing "push-backs" (is that what it's called?). What's worst on VEC is that the video is being distorted.

Hopefully a decision will be made this morning to drop it on 13-1. I'll take closings/delays superimposed on the bottom of the screen any day...

How about this. Fire up 13-3 and just have a "community bulletin board" with all closings/delays. Rotate VDOT traffic cams or promote ABC/WVEC/WVEC.com programs in a corner of the screen...

Shhh...let's not give them any more ideas for subchannels.

If they had to, they could always put it on 13-2...

Agreed, too bad I had to turn down the volume so I wouldn't scream. I hate the mainstream media bias! Maybe I read too much into it, but the same applies to both sides. What ever happened to regular non-editorial "news"?

You would be surprised! Even with the number of DTV sets steadily increasing, there are a lot of people who barely comprehend the technology. I had a viewer call me last night who has had some difficulty with reception of channel 13 (analog). He suggested that the problem might be that we were using too much power for our digital operation.

Providing school and business closing information is a very important function for all of the television stations. Not only does it help us fulfill our public interest obligations, but it brings a lot more people to the set than on any given normal day.

I've directed Master Control to keep the HD feed active on 13-1 so long as we have a HD feed from ABC.

New ClearLoc silicon offers VSB/QAM demodulator options
Jan 19, 2005 10:40 AM, HD Technology Update

Sarnoff has developed a new VSB/QAM demodulator for TV receivers and set-top boxes that deliver over-the-air digital/HDTV reception performance even under severe reception conditions.

The silicon IP ClearLoc uses a new set of algorithms and hardware to meet all performance parameters specified in the ATSC Receiver Performance Guidelines. The specifications have become the standard for 8-VSB (terrestrial digital/HDTV) demodulators for digital TV.

In addition, the built-in 64/256 QAM (cable TV) capabilities provide a single solution for receiving all cable channels while meeting the FCC mandate to include terrestrial digital TV reception in future TV sets.

For more information, visit www.sarnoff.com.

At least the hosts of Good Morning America have mentioned the broadcast is in Hi-def for the first time, that's a start.

For the most part yes it does. But there is very noticable pixelization during screen transitions though.

If anyone is interested this thread at satguys has pictures of various problems with video with definitions of the problems and causes. It may be helpful for us Laymen when trying to describe any problems we see to the engineers.

The push-back is intrusive, all the locals do it and I completely understand the stations point-of-view, but "squashing" the picture to do it?
