No problems with MNF here either.

As for CBS, the lipsync got better part way into Still Standing. It was much worse at the beginning of Listen Up, but I didn't watch more than the first minute of that show. It seemed to be fine during Raymond and 2.5 Men though...

Ted, thanks for the explanation on the NFL games.

Anbody else having problems with 13-1 reception tonite? I can't get MNF for some reason.

Brian

We had no problems with MNF...but 13 is our most difficult channel to pull in. Sometimes we have to click back and forth a couple of times to pull it in. No problems last night though...

WTKR-DT

I watched "Two and half men" with me face about 2 feet from the screen and could not find any lip-sync problems what so ever. I will contact CBS, if the problem is changing from show to show, then it is beyond WTKR's control...All CBS programming takes the same path thru the station.

Just watched the first minute of Everybody Loves Raymond and 2.5 Men and there were no lip-sync problems. Watched the first minute of Still Standing and Listen Up! and there were lip-sync problems. I believe this was the case last week too...

FWIW,

I didn't see any noticeable lip synch problems last night on WTKR-DT. Listen Up, which had lip synch problems last week seemed fine last night.

I am assuming that the issue of low power transmission at 33 still exists. Is this correct?

I'm not sure. I receive them here in VB with no problems. They are back on the air today... mid-60s on the meter. All other stations are in high 70s to around 90...

You are correct that WTVZ-DT is still operating under a Special Temporary Authorization (STA) which allows us to maintain "driver power" levels until we choose to fire up the high power. Even at these lower levels, you should be able to receive an effective signal throughout most of the Hampton Roads area. In any case, we will be at full licensed power no later than the end of October 2005 in order to preserve our fringe protection.

A special note: My assistant engineer, Charles Rouse, who just signed onto the forum a week ago, will be leaving Hampton Roads very shortlly to take the position of Chief Engineer at our Sister Station, WRLH (Fox) in Richmond. Please wish him well!

Thank you. I've been able to receive the station on sporadically. But I have an older tuner. I am looking forward to your increased power level.

Thanks for the info. I don't have any problem receiving WTVZ-DT at all here in Mathews County (45 miles from your transmitter). Signal is in the 50's but my old RCA F38310 with the built-in DTC-100 receiver has handled it exceptionallly well.

Good luck in your new position in Richmond. I'm originally from there and in the early days of WRLH the station engineer was into CB radio and he put an antenna 900 feet up the tower so he could talk to his buddies in Hampton Roads......I can't remember his name now but I think it was Jim ?

Lip-sync issues during Survivor... the second half...

Survivor is not in HD, which means it is a straight U/C for us of a SD show. This does not run thru any of our Dolby gear. The fact that you are seeing it only during part of the show tells me it might be buffer runup error in your receiver. The next time you "see" the lip sync error..turn the unit off and back on and see if it is still there....

I have not had audio on 33-2 for the past couple of days. Problem exists on both my Hitachi and my more forgiving Zenith receivers.

Also, will up-converted SD material always be stretched or are there plans to add the black side bars?

Ted,
San Diego/Atlanta not in HD. Is this because it is not televised in HD? If that's the case why couldn't a game that is in HD be aired? I know a lot of it is regional, but Atlanta isn't that close

Thanks, Brian

When I first tuned in to the prerace show it was in HD or near HD anyway but the lip sync was so far out that they would be a few seconds into the next interview (switching to different pit reporter) before the sound switched, literally 10 to 20 seconds out of sync. Then after about ten minutes the entire broadcast was switched to SD with the bars on either side and stayed that way for the rest of the race. I think the issue was either unfixable or someone in the control room switched back to the SD feeed while working the problem and never switched back. Disappointing but, with the sound off that far it really was almost unwatchable, didn't matter that much when it was just the cars on the track with the announcers doing voiceover, when you could actually see the lips move it was BAD!

Did anyone else notice this?

The NASCAR audio issue was national. NBC screwed up, probably because of the 5 second audio delay that they instituted after Jr's little slip on TV a couple of weeks ago. Maybe one day NBC will learn how to do this digital stuff right...

it depends on which games are scheduled to be shown in this market. We could see 2 in HD or 2 in SD. It depends.

CBS sports upcoming week will show what games are scheduled to be in HD.

Ted, thanks for working on getting the HD switching problems ironed out. Appreciate the explanation.

BTW, it's Pittsburgh, with an h. If you ever visit, there is an amusing display at the top of the Duquesne Incline that goes through the history of the name. It used to be either way, then the city voted on +h, but the USPS ignored it and removed the h. But it's been there for quite a while now.
