Well if a flood of sales do occur, this will quickly prove if OTA will be satisfactory to these new users. I am interested in what the station engineers think.

The following is in fun:

As the first of the redneck riff raff to grace this thread. I am sure a flood of new users would cause this thread to blow up repeatedly. But on the other hand, since those users havent seen OTA HD at 19mbps (nor will any of us ever again) they might not complain too much. LMAO

Just wait until they start selling subchannels off to USDTV or others. Seriously though....how long do you think the bean counters can let them continue using bandwidth for a doppler radar sweep? I have a Panny ED plasma so what I'm getting is good enough until the next big modulation breakthrough.

If they are coming from the SD world, I think they'll love it. All of us know that there are problems to overcome with OTA but, as most of you have proved, a little bit of money and effort to that end will yield great pictures at a monthly fee that can't be beat.

I picked this up from one of my daily E-Bulletins...
Quote:
CEA: DTV cumulative sales top 13 million units
Retailers are preparing for the biggest DTV holiday sales season yet, according to the latest figures from the Consumer Electronics Association. Factory-to-dealer DTV product sales totaled 741,598 units in September, which represents a 40% increase compared to the same period in 2003. Cumulative 2004 numbers are up 71% versus the first 9 months of last year. "The industry has much to be thankful for and to celebrate this holiday season," said CEA President and CEO Gary Shapiro. "More than 4.4 million DTV products have been sold during the first nine months of this year and CEA expects to see more groundbreaking sales as 2004 comes to a close. Some 13.3 million DTV units have shipped into the U.S. marketplace since product introduction in 1998. This translates to more than 20 billion invested in DTV." CEA Market Research projects that 6.97 million DTV units will be sold in 2004, 10.77 million in 2005, 16.77 million in 2006, 23.25 million in 2007 and 27.05 in 2008. CEA defines DTV products as integrated sets and monitors displaying active vertical scanning lines of at least 480p and, in the case of integrated sets, receiving and decoding Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) terrestrial digital broadcasts.

Bill,

There still appears to be a slight lip sync problem with the HD stream on 33-2. Thanks.

Can someone explain again why HD video and audio are sent as separate data streams that need to be synced locally instead of at the source (i.e. the network feed)? Thanks.

I signed up for this but, after thinking about it for awhile, what for? I already have a SD DVR. Cox has no HD worth recording. Everything is looped. If you miss something wait a couple days and it will come around again. Cox needs to add some content to make this worthwhile.

Very true, a reason I dumped them. I REALLY like the integrated OTA tuners in the DirecTV HD TiVo!

There's really only one thing that would make me dump DirecTV... PQ. Direct is compressing the hell out of their channels. Yes, they're are 100% digital but the PQ is poor. When I had Cox hooked up to my HD set for a brief period, the analog channels looked horrible. I didn't have the digital cable box hooked up. Almost all of my previous viewing on Cox was on their analog channels...

The Cox DVR solution is somewhat useless and incomplete until they can offer additional local channels in HD. I just don't understand why they can't figure out how to do this. They offer them in some markets and not in others.

I am going with HD-Tivo in the next week or so with an attic antenna and my existing D* dish.

This unit would be good for my parents -- A DVR integrated with a cable tuner.

They haven't jumped into the HD world... yet. They still use a VCR. I have a ReplayTV unit just sitting around. Adding that to my parents set-up would be too complicated for my Dad -- the TV watching controller. He says he'll wait for Cox to carry the local HD channels before getting an antenna... augh...

My guess is leaves falling. The wind started to pick-up yesterday. WAVY and WVBT have experienced some minor break-ups, for me...

Imagine ALL the leaves falling from your home to the TV antennas. Whoa!

Yeah 13 was bad at my place. 15, 27 and 43 had minor problems. I can wait until all of the leaves are down, then my antenna will have a fighting chance at 33.

I went up and adjusted the antenna a bit. I gave up on 33 because I have to angle my antenna up and turn it so much I lose others. I'll just turn the antenna on smallville nights I guess or get a rotor. :P Hopefully that megawatt upgrade will happen soon. 8Kw is horrible.

LOL! I thought it was my antenna! I've been up there scrambling trying to find signal. I lost a bunch of channels actually. 43 is gone too along with 15.

I have no idea. The test pattern came in perfect at first, now I'm blinking out again here and there. Not on Thanksgiving!

Hey Brian....Happy Thanksgiving!

Of course I'm waiting for the new card BEV has gone to so I can't even watch Boston. Now if WTKR can get the HD test pattern they must have some other issues.
