That has changed. I don't have WOW TV service so I can't confirm this, but that's the latest info.

This is no longer the case. I am receiving all HD Detroit locals in clear QAM through WOW on my HTPC as of about 3 weeks ago.

Any WOW customers try to watch the NFL Network game last Thursday? I didn't get a chance to post anything, but WOW Detroit BLACKED IT OUT!

WTF?

Trolling for info:

1) Is the Motorola 6416 available in the Detroit area (specifically Eastpointe) for Comcast?
2) How about the Motorola 3412?
3) Are there compelling reasons to replace my current 6412 phase III stb with either one?

I am currently using a Sony WE655 42" LCD RPTV with a Sony DAV-FC9 Dream System.

Thanks in advance for any insight.

Jeremy W where did WOW post that statement on NFL networK?

When I plugged my new 50" Panny plasma right into the WOW cable feed, it found 200-206 HD (ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, CW, PBS, MYNetwork), so it was at no cost except that I couldn't get the digital tier on the plasma.

So I called up WOW and had them bring in a new 8300 STB and hook me up with the HD PAK (209-217), so now they are charging fees for the basic 200-206 + HD Pak + the new STB. I don;t understand why they charge for the broadcast stations 200-=206

Since I want ESPN HD thru the Bowl Season, and HDNET has at least 1 game a week of the Red Wings in HD, I'll pony up for the next month, but then I'm going to think hard about rationalize my service. I just may change over to Comcrap so I can get FSN HD for the Wings & Pistons coverage instead unless WOW adds that soon.

Panny Plasma: Big 50, Bright and Sharp!!
WOW Canton Subscriber for now

That was from an e-mail they sent my uncle, who had e-mailed them to complain about not having the games.

If the Wings are on HDNET it is always blacked out locally

I have WOW too and I think I will be switching to comcast very soon. I was dissapointed about not getting to watch the NFL games on the NFL NetworkHD. WOW is dumb for even carrying the channel. It is useless if you can't watch live games.

Does anyone know who broadcasts FSN HD Detroit? It's not in the Comcast or Wow channel lineups. According to an earlier post, it was in the Comcast lineup, but I don't see it listed when I reviewed their TV guide listing.

Thanks,

Yep, just Pistons and Wings games and I am satisfied with that. No need for any other BS programming.

BTW - is anyone else not getting Gilmore Girls on the CW in HD on Comcast? Two weeks in a row this show has not been HD despite the program guide indicating that it is and the program banner when the shows starts that it's in HD where available.

Not always.

HDNet has been working with local sports nets to allow exceptions for some in-market HD games. This happened at least a few times in Detroit last year, and may happen again. Bottom line, is always pays to at least check HDNet if the Wings are on.

Thanks!

Not sure why it is, but I called Comcast and asked about FSN-HD, and they said it is not in their channel line up. So, I entered the channel lineup in Eastpointe and still don't see it. Does it exist and Comcast just has not updated their channel lineup?

Ken,
I'm not sure I know the best way to word it, but WTVS-DT needs a modification to the description. The subchannel is NOT a mirror of the HD channel. It is a mirror of the analog programming on channel 56, not a mirror of the HD program.

(Whereas on channel 21, the sub mirrors both the analog and HD. All three are the same program)

If you could get a 6416, the hard disk is bigger, that is a good reason.

As for other justification, I'd check the related topics in the HDTV Recorders forum.

A reminder for those who get FSH HD, as the Toronto Maple Leafs are in Detroit tonight, playing the Red Wings at Joe Louis Arena.

The Leafs are having a decent year so far, with a 13-12 record and 31 points; 4th place in the Eastern Conference Northeast division.

The Wings are doing a little better with a 16-7 record and 36 points, good for 2nd place in the Western Conference Central division.

As both teams are part of the Original 6, they have quite a history, with the overall series edge going to the Wings, 273-270, over 74 years of competition.

I just got my first TV (Westinghouse 32" LCD) with a built-in tuner, so I decided to do the same scan and see what channels I could pick up. Attached is a zipped Excel file with all of the channels I received. I picked up a total of (9) HD channels, two of which I did not have access to before via D* HD (PBS and CW 50):

FOX HD
NBC HD
ABC HD
PBS HD
CBS HD
Discovery HD
TNT HD
My 20 HD
CW 50 HD

I also picked up about (20) On Demand channels that were on and off at varying times. I believe this list is pretty accurate, if anyone sees any discrepancies please let me know.

Matt

As always, QAM reception lists are nebulous at best, because cable providers move channel assignments on a regular basis.

Ok, forgive the rant but someone has to hear this.....

I have Comcast Preferred Analog Cable out in Ann Arbor with the Moto 6412 HD DVR. Tonight the cable box decides to go DOA- I have to unplug it to get something that fell behind the TV and when I plug it back in, no power, no nothing. I call Comcast to request a service appointment. The CSR proceeds to tell me that I shouldn't have a DVR without digital service (which was NOT the policy when I got the box back when they were first available) and the problem was probably that my box was de-authorized and I would have to pay the $12/month to upgrade to a digital tier to get my service back.

WHAT!?!?!?!

I understand what they are doing, and while I disagree, I would have expected a letter in the mail stating that if I didn't upgrade by such a date then my service would disappear. But to just flip it off in the middle of the night without warning is ridiculous.

To top it off, I'm certain the CSR is wrong. I'll bet the problem is just this notorious Moto box. But she wouldn't even schedule the appointment to have someone come out and look. She would only upgrade me or send a tech out with a HD only box.

Anyone else have this happen?

man that sucks. Well just do what I always do, if the CSR isnt helpful then you can always ask to speak to their supervisor. You are paying them, and therefore you should get better service than the crap that normally happens.
