A lot of us did, too. But it wasn't sticking where it counted.

On the bright side, we get to skip the subchannel stuff. For now, at least.

Agreed, re: subs except I wouldn't mind getting a 'First Weather' sub that had radar + hourly forecasts... or any other weather based station amongst the Detroit/Windsor OTA's...

I've heard from different stations that the proliferation of smartphone and computer weather apps, plus the unlikeliness of cable carriage makes the money and effort to program one a nonstarter. As always, that could change. Heck, I've got a TV that grabs that from the internet and both my cable and DSS boxes have instant weather, too. My Windows Phone has the best radar app I've ever seen. And it's frighteningly fast to load and display. Zoom, move, motion.. all with fingertip access. You'd have to wait for a weather sub to cycle through to the view you wanted.

Walking the fine line between jaw-dropping and a plain ol' yawn.

when are we gonna start getting 1080p?

You already have it from BD and select pay providers.

From linear TV channels? Probably never, because they will most likely evolve to higher resolutions (see the 4K topic in the HDTV Programming Forum: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1400304 ) as opposed to putting more infrastructure into existing standards.

I actually begged 'em to consider a lower virtual channel number so we'd be nested closer to the other network stations. Legal shot that down as there really wasn't an easy choice that wouldn't have drawn objections from an adjacent market. And a lot of cable systems have 'em all nested pretty close, anyway. So, CBS62 it is.

Definitely makes sense.

"CBS 6" would've been perfect, but I suspect the folks at WLNS in Lansing might not be too happy about that. (WLNS has a large viewership in Livingston County.)

The only VHF channel number not used for branding or PSIP in either Detroit, Windsor, Flint / Saginaw, Toledo, and Lansing is "3." However, "3" would be so radically different from "62" that using it would probably be a terrible idea!

So, in the final analysis, I'm cool with CBS 62.

What would have been wrong with 14? Co-owned WKBD uses it as their RF channel.

Trip.. 14 is where they are on some cable systems. Plus, it's still at the high end (of cable net affiliate placement). So, 14 gets them nothing.

3 is out of the question since no cable system would put them there due to all of the converters that use 3 as an output. I don't know about Comcast, but every other cable system I've lived with used 3 as a billboard or some other useless access channel. Granted, nobody's ON 3, so ingress from the outside isn't an issue, but I'm guessing in-house interference was the primary reason 3 was never on the list. Moot now as they're sticking with 62.

Re: TV Ontario - TVO Digital Channel 32

TVO has been on the digital air since last September, when the Canadian digital transition occurred. They broadcast from the same tower as the CBC affiliate CBET, located in McGregor, ON. Here is a coverage map from our friend Trip at RabbitEars.info: http://www.rabbitears.info/contour.php?appid=1283753

As you can see, many Detroit area viewers can receive TVO with the same antennas they currently use for Detroit stations.

For the TVO stations located West of Toronto, they use a 'digital daisy chain' from the main OTA transmitter in Toronto. Any OTA disruption between Toronto heading West causes the HD go away and the system drops back to SD. SD is distributed by satellite (plans are for satellite HD distribution at some point when the money is available) so it's not subject to the same OTA disruption. The other TVO stations Windsor HD is dependent on are Chatham, London, and Kitchener.

They have been experiencing some problems with this system and for the time being they have dropped to SD, and also do not have PSIP. It should take 2-3 weeks to test the proposed fix and if it works, fine, if not it will take longer to correct the problem.

Having seen TVO HD, I can tell you:
1) It's really good 1080i, because they have no subchannels.
2) They offer a wide variety of programming, with many programs not available from other sources in our area. This includes the famous Saturday Night At The Movies series with exclusive films and commentary from industry insiders.

Before they went off-air, I noticed that their PSIP was messed up and while it was remapping to 20, there was no IPG info.

Technical issues knock Detroit's WMYD off the air this afternoon

MyNetworkTV WMYD-TV Ch. 20 Detroit has been off the air for at least the past 90 minutes as of 4:30 p.m. The outage does not appear to be affecting the other TV stations (WWJ-TV Ch. 62, WTVS-TV Ch. 56, WUDT-CA Ch. 23) that also broadcast from the same tower. The outage affects both Ch. 20.1 and Ch. 20.2. At least some cable providers are also affected- Comcast is displaying blue 'technical difficulty screens for Ch 20.1, both SD and HD, and Ch. 20.2.

It's been down since around 2. That's the last time I ran a scan and 20 fell out of my list. Also about the same time as the first report on Facebook.

Strangely, there's no official mention on their website or Facebook page. Unless I missed it.

Thanks for your email.

Our power supply was unstable yesterday and we had to power down our
transmitter to avoid damaging it. This forced us to go off the air while
we fixed the problem. I am happy to say that the problem is fixed and
you can enjoy watching TV20 again.

Thank you for watching our station, we always like to hear from our
viewers.

No redundancy? I would think they should have two full exciter/transmitter/power supplies, but it is Granite, too.

Given the outlay to move from analog to digital, I imagine a lot of smaller stations are rolling the dice until they can work yet another transmitter into the budget.

Good deal. It looks like most Charter areas will have access to over 50 HD channels. This will be helpful for the Lineup topic in the HDTV Programming Forum.

5:18 and WDIV just went south on BHN. Analog and Digital ....for about three minutes.

IOW, it just came back as I was typing this.

NVM, move along. Nothing to see here. Of course, now I have to re-scan to get WDIV digital back. SIGH
