Not sure for how long, but looks like WPXD is live again on RF50 (finally!). No PSIP information though.

Anybody else getting spotty reception from 56-1 and 56-2 (Detroit public TV OTA) the past few weeks? TiVo tells me my signal strength is 85%+ but there is a lot of pixelation and missing audio spots. I'm in Ann Arbor with a roof mounted Winegard.

Haven't adjusted anything lately, just seems like a lot of the kids shows we record off those channels are pretty bad.

Yes, as you found, I checked UHF 50 about 1am and all three subchannels showed up (no PSIP), so I think that must be a good sign. Just checked again and they are gone now; testing, testing, 1,2,3...

Farmington Hills, fringe Winegard antenna. This is the third year in a row that 56.x signal has gone bad irregularly about this time of the year. In the past it has stayed that way until sometime in the Fall.

Also 4.x has quality issues and variable strength like 85 to 25 to 85 in 30 seconds. This has been going on and off for at least two years.

I do aim my antenna at the transmitters for best, not good, results. Interestingly CBC Windsor is near 90 degrees to the side and has excellent picture quality.

It gets this warm and the F layer over the lakes bounces everything into Detroit. Try listening to my show from Monroe, tomorrow morning. Or anytime this summer. You'll get Cleveland, instead.

I'm a little stumped here. Usually I would say trop was bringing in another station on channel 43 (the actual RF channel on which WTVS transmits), but the closest stations on 43 are in Pittsburgh, Chicago and Buffalo, and I've never even seen any of them here, let alone had them wipe out WTVS.

Odd thing happened about a week ago. Trop was in, with even low-power digitals being seen, but all of the stations from that tower (WMYD, WTVS, WWJ) briefly disappeared.

Tropo can degrade a signal. It can also cause over-amplification.

I see that TiVo and Comcast have initiated the TiVo xfinity On Demand service in the SF Bay area. TiVo is indicating this will be migrated to other areas over time. Does Comcast have an actual migration plan, or is this going to be one of those cases where the "test market" winds up being the only market that gets it?

I'm contemplating the idea of replacing my current Comcast HD box with a TiVo Premiere, but since I occasionally use On Demand with that receiver, I am hesitant to pull the trigger if it will never get here.

Unlike the original TiVo software download plan (using existing Comcast HD DVR's), On Demand for TiVo Premier should be available in all markets. The only question is when.

On the TiVo Community forum, it's been speculated anywhere between months and the end of the year.

Fox Television Stations (FTS) and AccuWeather are partnering in 11 Fox markets starting this summer, with AccuWeather's content running on air and online at the Fox-owned stations in Dallas, Atlanta, Washington, Detroit, Phoenix, Tampa, Minneapolis, Orlando, Memphis, Austin and Gainesville (Fla.).

Fox said its stations "will offer their local viewers a 24/7 live streaming video weather channel provided by AccuWeather," while jointly produced and branded content will extend across "virtually all of the stations' media platforms," including mobile.

Does this announcement mean that WJBK will soon have the AccuWeather Channel as a digital sub or is this for online only? If so I am thrilled...

Get prepared to be thrilled. This will definitely apply to WJBK-DT, and it will also be available on line and on appropriate mobile devices.

The best news is that due to how the FOX HD distribution system works (aka Splicer), we should notice no difference in FOX HD image quality.

With that being the case, I guess our conversation re: MundoFox being a sub on WJBK is likely now moot.

The article says "starting this summer." Not sure when exactly but I would guess its fair to say by Labor Day this will be live then.

Comcast’s cloud-based VoIP service for businesses, Comcast Business VoiceEdge, is now available across Michigan.

By Mike Robuck

The service made its debut in March, and Comcast expects to have it rolled out across its entire footprint by year’s end. Comcast previously said Comcast Business VoiceEdge was deployed across most of the cable operator’s Northeastern Division, which includes 14 states from Maine through Virginia and the District of Columbia, as well as Chicago.

VoiceEdge includes unlimited nationwide calling, Polycom phones at no additional charge, HD audio, and advanced unified communications and mobility features. The service has a downloadable client that enables click-to-dial and service management from within Microsoft Outlook, Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox browsers.

It also integrates employees’ work lines with their mobile device, home office or other locations to have calls follow them or push/pull them between devices, without having to disconnect and then reconnect the call.

On the cost savings side of the ledger, Comcast said VoiceEdge eliminated the need for onsite PBX equipment and key systems.

The service, which was developed as the result of Comcast’s purchase of New Global Telecom two years ago, is yet another effort by Comcast to lure business customers away from large phone companies such as AT&T and Verizon.

"What sets Comcast apart from other players in this space is that we're the only provider to combine a cloud-based voice service with vast network reach, a well-known brand, and a strong focus on providing great products with high quality and consistency," said Bill Stemper, president of Comcast Business Services. "Businesses, especially those with a distributed workforce, need a reliable and consistent voice solution that allows their 'on-the-go' employees to stay connected anytime and anywhere. Together with our Ethernet and alongside our PRI services, we are now delivering an array of solutions for all types of mid-size organizations."

WXYZ's Gran Prix pre-race is a mixed bag of PQ. Most looks upconverted and some looks skyped. Not good to my eyes. Viewing via BHN.

Kudos to WXYZ for sticking with the Detroit Grand Prix after the restart by switching to the ESPN News feed at 7 PM. I wouldn't have been able to watch ESPN News directly, for I was committed to a recording on another channel.

I do wish they'd stayed on ESPNEWS after the checkered flag. Some of the racers had good things to say about Detroit. I also wish they'd have switched sooner. ESPNEWS continued race coverage when ABC bailed after the red flag.

So is this going to air on WWJ after Craig Ferguson or will this be on WKBD?

I wonder if CBS will allow stations to air Arsenio against Letterman, or if that will be forbidden in the contract. Ironically, back when Letterman moved to CBS, it forced stations to drop the old Arsenio show in many markets, and ultimately he was cancelled. Glad to see him coming back.

According to Deadline, the show will be airing 11pm/10pm CT (at least on Tribune owned WPIX, KTLA and WGN), so assuming that is the case across the board, it won't air head-to-head with Letterman at least for the first 30 minutes. I am not sure if the show is a 30 minute or 60 minute show. If its 30 minutes, it could be slotted in at 11pm since WWJ doesn't air any news. Otherwise, it looks like it will be on WKBD, which means The Simpsons and Family Guy get bumped somewhere else in the lineup.
