I got home from work to find that KNVN 904 had a menu on the screen and someone going through the settings.
Sound does seems to be better and louder.
Watching the olympics and no 5.1

I watched the Olympics for a while tonight OTA, no dropouts. Sound level was good. Don't know if it was 5.1.

No 5.1 and the sound is better but still quieter than Fox, CBS, and ABC on my end, all OTA.

They've been advertising the Olympics in 5.1 as well, on local commercials. Hopefully they will get it working soon. All picture problems seem to be fixed. Hopefully they can get the sound working soon.

just curious as to what antenna you're all using to pick up OTA signals. I live in the avenues near enloe and can only pick up KHSL with my HD-tivo, and Fox every once in a while in the morning. I have an antenna on my roof, but no HD OTA, so looking to upgrade antennas. Would like to pick up ABC out of Redding, but I know that would be a crapshoot due to distance. I've looked throughout the thread, but I'm not sure if there's any concensus on what works best in our area: antenna, preamp, etc. Now that the locals are moving towards HD, I figure I can dump Sunday Ticket and spend the money on OTA reception.

I actually use more than one antenna. All are directional VHF/UHF fringe to deep fringe. I have a Winegard HD7084P that I use with a rotator. It does a good job at bringing in all except KHSL (http://www.winegard.com/offair/platinum.htm). I also have a Channel Master 9521a and a Radio Shack UHF. The best of the three is the Winegard.

Soon, I should be able to switch all to one medium directional antenna because KNVN HD, KHSL HD, KCVU HD are or will be broadcasting with high power from Tuscon. Both KRCR HD and KIXE HD are really close.

The reason I have so many antennas is that I have a two story house and it is easier to keep antennas specified to two different locations without having to use splitters that ruin the signal. Also because of the difference in degrees between the Chico stations and the Redding stations, I use two HD DVR recorders, one for each direction. I don't have to be present for timers to rotate to the correct station.

I think that we may see Dish Network. and Direct TV rebroadcasting the HD locals in the near future after which I can get rid off all the antennas.

I'm using 2 Radio Shack UHF antennas (U-75R @ $30), 1 for KCRA & KIXE wich is overkill and the other for KNVN. They're coupled with a UHF spliter and added to a 3 LNB Directv spliter for a 75 foot downlead to the receiver.

The signal strength for the Redding stations are 95 to 100. For KNVN it's a stable 72 which I'm amazed because I have to aim over a nearby hill. Hope KHSL and KCVU will do the same.

blastoff, what HD DVR recorders are you using and can you export a recording to a computer?

Have local channels on Directv and they look like crap compared to OTA and Cable... too much compression. Wonder how they will handle local HD channels.

I'm using two buggy DVR921 receivers from Dish Network. After Monday, I'll have the two 921's and one Vip622. No, I would like to export HD to my computers. As HD develops, I'll keep an eye peeled for such devices. There is a concern about recording HD and most likely will have encryption. From what I understand, it will be very difficult to record HD content.

Once again another night of the olympic without 5.1, maybe KNVN should remove the invertising from TV and website stating that they have 5.1.

As for my antenna...I'm in Chico near East and Cohasset and I have my DB8 from Antenna's Direct on top of the two story building I'm in and I pick up KRCR (ABC) at about 91%, KNVN (NBC) at 92%, KIXE (PBS) at 74%, KCVU (Fox) at 86%, and KHSL (CBS) at 81%. No preamp or anything, just a cable straight from my antenna into the back of my Dish 811. I'm waiting until April 1st to get my VIP622, they will only be $99.

And as for KNVN advertising 5.1...I said the same thing to Ron. Doesn't seem appropriate to be advertising things they aren't able to provide yet. Not to take anything away from the effort they have put into getting it working though. They're doing great and making good progress.

Thanks guys for the antenna info. I will start narrowing down my search for a good OTA antenna now. I'm just happy fox and nbc locals are up for HD, even at limited power and programming. I'm sure knvn will improve since they just went live, at least the engineer seems receptive to input. My goal is to get the locals before football season starts back up, I'm tired of paying for Sunday Ticket along with the Superfan on top of that to get the HD games, then after all that the Raiders games are blacked out. I tried to get waivers a while back which didn't work out, guess I could "move", but I think if I buy the right antenna set-up now I'll be a happy camper. Again, thanks for the input.

I've checked out the antennaweb site before and now I'm looking at the Titan site. Thanks for the links, I figured it's best to get first hand experience from locals as far as what works best. Once I upgrade and choose an antenna I'll make sure to let you all know how the reception is.

It's coming in 2.0 for me. I'm kinda losing hope in getting 5.1 up anytime soon on KNVN. Although I could have sworn my Blue 5.1 light lite up briefly last week...

I'm thinking KNVN should go over to Fox 30 and seen how they have it setup.
I can't beleive it is taking so long to get it going.

The closer to getting the bugs worked out at KNVN then the closer to getting KHSL in HD?

KNVN is now in 5.1. The audio is still very quiet for me on SD and HD though. I have all other stations at -28dB and KNVN at -10dB to get them at the same level.

It looks like a work in progress as DD5.1 was coming and going. Kind of like they may be dialing it in. I think they are close, because it's staying on during the commercials now. Sounds good on my end.

Work is starting on KHSL today. Hopefully a solution will be found to fix the 10dB problem we seem to be experiencing on KNVN. I don't want 2 channels like that.

I guess I should have said they "should" be starting on KHSL today.
